Promotion of occupational therapy as a career: A survey of occupational therapy managers
A careers pack distributed to 184 occupational therapy managers in and around
London contained a questionnaire which gathered information about their role
in promoting occupational therapy as a career. Twenty-six managers responded
(14.1%) and considered that the College of Occupational Therapists had the
principal responsibility for promoting the profession. Three-quarters
considered that the careers pack was fairly effective and two-thirds were
willing to use it to promote the profession.
Although pleased to have received the pack, the managers had more
negative than positive comments about it. Managers may not appreciate their
influential position in recruitment to the profession and other stakeholders
should collaborate to support them in their pivotal rol
Illustrating Dynamical Symmetries in Classical Mechanics: The Laplace-Runge-Lenz Vector Revisited
The inverse square force law admits a conserved vector that lies in the plane
of motion. This vector has been associated with the names of Laplace, Runge,
and Lenz, among others. Many workers have explored aspects of the symmetry and
degeneracy associated with this vector and with analogous dynamical symmetris.
We define a conserved dynamical variable that characterizes the
orientation of the orbit in two-dimensional configuration space for the Kepler
problem and an analogous variable for the isotropic harmonics
oscillator. This orbit orientation variable is canonically conjugate to the
angular momentum component normal to the plane of motion. We explore the
canoncial one-parameter group of transformations generated by
Because we have an obvious pair of conserved canonically conjugate variables,
it is desirable to us them as a coordinate-momentum pair. In terms of these
phase space coordinates, the form of the Hamiltonian is nearly trivial because
neither member of the pair can occur explicitly in the Hamiltonian. From these
considerations we gain a simple picture of the dynamics in phase space. The
procedure we use is in the spirit of the Hamilton-Jacobi method.Comment: 15 pages, 1 figure, to be published in American Journal of Physic
Mutual-Excitation of Cryptocurrency Market Returns and Social Media Topics
Cryptocurrencies have recently experienced a new wave of price volatility and
interest; activity within social media communities relating to cryptocurrencies
has increased significantly. There is currently limited documented knowledge of
factors which could indicate future price movements. This paper aims to
decipher relationships between cryptocurrency price changes and topic
discussion on social media to provide, among other things, an understanding of
which topics are indicative of future price movements. To achieve this a
well-known dynamic topic modelling approach is applied to social media
communication to retrieve information about the temporal occurrence of various
topics. A Hawkes model is then applied to find interactions between topics and
cryptocurrency prices. The results show particular topics tend to precede
certain types of price movements, for example the discussion of 'risk and
investment vs trading' being indicative of price falls, the discussion of
'substantial price movements' being indicative of volatility, and the
discussion of 'fundamental cryptocurrency value' by technical communities being
indicative of price rises. The knowledge of topic relationships gained here
could be built into a real-time system, providing trading or alerting signals.Comment: 3rd International Conference on Knowledge Engineering and

Astronaut operations requirements document for the White Light Coronagraph experiment s-052 for the Apollo Telescope Mount
Information necessary for successful performance of the observer's function in the White Light Coronagraph portion of the Apollo Telescope Mount experiments is presented. The pre-flight, in-flight, and post-flight operations required to perform the S-052 experiment are described. A discussion of the scientific objectives of the experiment and a description of the hardware are provided

The George C. Davis Site, Cherokee County, Texas: Spring 1980 Archeological Investigations
The results of archeological investigations in portions of the George C. Davis Site are presented in this report prepared by Ross Fields and J. Peter Thurmond . Stringent contract requirements and the provisions of Texas Antiquities Permit No. 237 dictate that this report be brief and descriptive in nature. Requirements such as inclusion of a detailed site investigation history and environmental data were excluded and extensive excavations were stressed in preference to detailed analyses and comparisons. Field investigations were limited by contract to 20 working days and the analysis/write-up to 10 working days. The governing research design was prepared by the Texas Antiquities Committee staff to reflect agreements between the Committee and the Texas Forest Service. Sighificant findings include the general delineation of extensive, and in places intensive, Archaic and Late Prehistoric occupations. Of primary importance is the lack of an identifiable Alto Focus occupation within the northern portion of the Davis Site. This suggests that the small left bank tributary to Bowles Creek existed during Alto Focus times and served as a natural boundary for the village area during that period of site usage. There are hints that significant variations in the selection and use of lithic resources through time are identifiable. It is indeed ! unfortunate that time limitations precluded pursuit of this line of investigation. Ross and Pete have successfully accomplished a most challenging task under less than ideal conditions. They and their field crew are commended for their outstanding work at the Davis Site
