Using Multimodal Analysis to Investigate the Role of the Interpreter

Recent research in Interpreting Studies has favoured the argument that, in practice, the interpreter plays an active role, rather than the prescribed role stipulated in professional codes of conduct. Cutting-edge studies utilising multimodal research methods have taken a more comprehensive approach to investigating this argument, searching for evidence of the interpreter’s active involvement not only through textual analysis, but also by examining a range of non-verbal communicative means. Studies using multimodal analysis, such as those by Pasquandrea (2011) and Davitti (2012), have succeeded in offering new insights into the interpreter’s role in interaction. This research presents further investigation into the interpreter’s role through multimodal analysis by focusing on the use of gesture movements, gaze and body orientation in interpreter-mediated communication; it also looks at the impact of the state of knowledge asymmetry on the interpreter’s role. This thesis presents findings from six simulated face-to-face dialogue interpreting cases featuring three different groups of participants and interpreters representing different interpreting settings (e.g. parent-teacher meeting, business meeting, doctor-patient meeting, etc.). By adapting a multimodal approach, findings of this study (a) contribute to our understanding of the active role of the interpreter in Interpreting Studies by exploring new insights from a multimodal approach, and (b) offer new empirical findings from interpreter-mediated interactions to the technical analysis of multimodal communication

Design and fabrication of multipurpose agriculture machine / Muhammad Muhaimin Haiqal Rozee

Cultivation of a crop involves various steps like ploughing, sowing seeds and sprinkling water. Farmers must use various agricultural equipment and labors to carry out these steps. The purpose of this project is to combine all the individual tools into one machine to provide farmers with multipurpose equipment which implements all the scientific farming techniques, suitable for all type of seed-to-seed cultivation with minimum cost as possible. Infront of the machine, there is a plough tool that can do the ploughing process. Next, there is a cylinder container that contains seeds that connects the front wheel with sprockets and chain. Thus, the sowing seeds process will occur when the machine is moving. Furthermore, this machine use water pump to sprinkle water. At the back of the machine, there is a covering tool that functions to level the soil. The advantages of this machine are easy to clean and maintain, more economical and not difficult to operate

Estudio preliminar sobre el potencial de la Terapia de Realidad Virtual para reducir la ansiedad al hablar en público

This study probes on the potentials of Virtual Reality Therapy (VRT) to overcome glossophobia in the context of online classes. To achieve the objective, this study employs experimental design in which students who are enrolled in an online public speaking course were grouped into two: Experimental and control group. The experimental group experienced three sessions of VRT throughout the semester whereas the control group did not. After the end of the course, the descriptive analysis findings suggest that the rate of change for the experimental group was -17% in comparison with the control group -4%. This indicates that the experimental group had decreased their public speaking anxiety four times more than the control group; hence suggesting that VRT has helped to reduce the anxiety in public speaking. All in all, this study foreshadows the great potential of VRT in the education and communication field. El grupo experimental experimentó tres sesiones de VRT a lo largo del semestre, mientras que el grupo de control no. Después del final del curso, los hallazgos del análisis descriptivo sugieren que la tasa de cambio para el grupo experimental fue de -17% en comparación con el grupo de control -4%. BEATRISA Enterprise was located in Putrajaya Alamanda Presint 17, Selangor. We have three floors in our building and each floor have their own category like for the second floor; we make gift wrapping service area for the customers. The total of our building and land is RM 3,600,000. Our financial is going smoothly like our sale because we have Financial Manager who knows to manage the financial account wisely. Our sales increased day by day and from that, as a return we upgrade our store like we want and make sure our customers feel comfortable when they come to our store. We also use the money from our sale for buy new furniture and equipment for the business. Marketing Manager of BEATRISA Enterprise also does their job wisely because without marketing team, our product will not be selling. Each marketing plan that had drafted, we try it on and we are glad that all our marketing plans going well like what we have planned by the team. Our marketing team very skilled full person and it is one of our advantages because our business can increase day by day. Lastly, the layout of our company was designed by our Operation Manager. We make sure our layout is looking arranged for us easy to make a move and also our customers will feel comfortable. We choose the best quality of our furniture and equipment to make sure it is long lasting for our business. We are so lucky because having such knowledgeable, talented and skillful partners in our organizations, because without the team member, BEATRISA Enterprise will be not build and success until now
