    Sporadic medullary microcarcinoma of thyroid is a rare disease detected usually in 0.15% of all thyroid malignancy. We report a case of sporadic medullary microcarcinoma (MMC) of thyroid in a 24 year old male presenting as solitary thyroid nodule. There was no family history of medullary carcinoma of thyroid. Although medullary carcinoma in a familial setting have been reported, sporadic MMC is rare especially in a young patient

    Emperipolesis is a condition in which viable hematopoetic cells are seen intact in the cytoplasm of host cell without damage. This phenomenon is seen in many physiologic and pathologic conditions, its presence in Rosai Dorfman disease (RDD) is characteristic of the disease. However emperipolesis is an uncommon finding in malignant lymphoma both Hodgkins and non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, wherein it has been described in bone marrow aspirate and tissue culture. In contrast there are only two case reports of emperipolesis phenomenon described in non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in tissue sections. We report a case of an adult T cell lymphoblastic lymphoma (mediastinal type) with features of emperipolesis demonstrated at fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) and imprint cytology of cervical lymph nodes. To our knowledge, this is the first case report of emperipolesis in a case of adult T cell lymphoblastic lymphoma (mediastinal type)-detected at FNAC and imprint cytology

    Research on repeat breeders in Bali Cattles in Pringsewu Regency was held on December 2014 until January 2015 with 5 inseminators, 131 Bali Cattles that had been inseminated belong to 100 farmers. The purpose of this reserch are to know: 1) value repeat breeder of Bali Cattles in Pringsewu Regency, 2) the factors and magnitude factors which disturb repeat breeder of Bali Cattles in Pringsewu Regency. Data was analysis by logistic regression with SPSS (Statistics Packet for Social Science) program. The result showed that repeat breeder of Bali Cattles at Pringsewu Regency is 19,85%. Factors that affect the repeat breeder are education inseminator that negatively associated with factor value 1,466; the number of acceptors that negatively associated with factor value 0,390; old ranching that positively associated with factor value 0,067; the amount of provision of water that negatively associated with factor value 0,106; large cage that negatively associated with factor value 0,114; and sanitation stall that negatively associated with factor value 0,805

    Higiene sanitasi makanan adalah upaya pengendalian terhadap empat faktor penyehatan makanan yaitu faktortempat/bangunan, peralatan, orang, dan cara penyajian makanan. Escherichia coli merupakan bakteri batanggram negatif, tidak berkapsul dan merupakan flora normal di dalam saluran pencernaan hewan dan manusiayang mudah mencemari air dan makanan. Makanan jajanan sebagai salah satu jasa pelayanan masyarakat dibidang makanan yang keberadaan sering kali masih jauh dari memenuhi persyaratan kesehatan sehinggamenimbulkan dampak penyakit kepada masyarakat. Tujuan dalam penelitian ini yaitu untuk mengetahui kualitashigiene sanitasi makanan jajanan kue basah dan keberadaan Escherichia coli dalam jajanan kue Basah di pasartradisional Kota Kendari tahun 2016. Penelitian ini bersifat deskriptif observasional yaitu mengetahui gambaranhasil analisis keberadaan Escherichia coli pada makanan jajanan kue basah yang dijual oleh pedagang kue di pasartradisional Kota Kendari. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa 87% pedagang yang keadaan lokasi tempatjualannya tidak memenuhi syarat, terdapat 60% yang kondisi pedagangnya tidak memenuhi syarat, terdapat 70%pedagang yang cara penyajiannya sudah memenuhi syarat, Sementara itu dari 30 sampel makanan jajanan kuebasah yang diperiksa menunjukan 18 (60%) sampel makanan jajanan kue basah tidak mengandung Escherichiacoli dan 12 (40%) sampel makanan jajanan kue basah mengandung Escherichia coli. Saran dalam penelitian iniyaitu dalam meningkatkan kualitas higiene sanitasi makanan jajanan maka perlu pembinaan dan pengawasan sertapenyuluhan tentang higiene sanitasi makanan jajanan sehingga makanan jajanan yang dipasarkan memenuhi syaratkesehatan

    Variability of root traits in spring wheat germplasm

The objectives of this research were to characterize variability of root traits among spring wheat genotypes and determine whether root traits are related to shoot traits (plant height, tiller number per plant, shoot dry weight, and coleoptile length), regions of origin, and market classes. Plants were grown in 150-cm columns for 61 days in a greenhouse under optimal growth conditions. Rooting depth, root dry weight, root: shoot ratio, and shoot traits were determined for 297 genotypes of the germplasm, Cultivated Wheat Collection (CWC). The remaining root traits such as total root length and surface area were measured for a subset of 30 genotypes selected based on rooting depth. Significant genetic variability was observed for root traits among spring wheat genotypes in CWC germplasm or its subset. Genotypes Sonora and Currawa were ranked high, and genotype Vandal was ranked low for most root traits. A positive relationship (R2≥0.35) was found between root and shoot dry weights within the CWC germplasm and between total root surface area and tiller number; total root surface area and shoot dry weight; and total root length and coleoptile length within the subset. No correlations were found between plant height and most root traits within the CWC germplasm or its subset. Region of origin had significant impact on rooting depth in the CWC germplasm. Wheat genotypes collected from Australia, Mediterranean, and west Asia had greater rooting depth than those from south Asia, Latin America, Mexico, and Canada. Soft wheat had greater rooting depth than hard wheat in the CWC germplasm. The genetic variability identified in this research for root traits can be exploited to improve drought tolerance and/or resource capture in wheat

    A case of synovial lipomatosis with chronic synovitis presenting as acute knee pain

    Background: Synovial lipomatosis is a rare, benign, intra-articular lipoma-like lesion characterized by villous proliferation of the synovium, most commonly affecting the knee joint. The usual presentation is long standing progressive swelling of the affected joint, with or without pain and restriction of movements. Histopathology is confirmatory. Case Report: We present the case of a 35- year old male patient with long standing history of swelling, short history of pain in the left knee joint. X-Ray and magnetic resonance imaging scans of the left knee showed the characteristic features of synovial lipomatosis with chronic synovitis. The patient underwent diagnostic arthroscopy with lavage of left knee joint. Histopathological study confirmed synovial lipomatosis with chronic synovitis. Conclusion: Synovial lipomatosis is a rare, benign, intra-articular lipoma-like lesion. Although rare, clinically it should be considered as an important differential in evaluating neoplastic and non- neoplastic conditions of the knee joint

    Hybridization between the conduction band and 3d orbitals in the oxide-based diluted magnetic semiconductor In2x_{2-x}Vx_xO3_3

    The electronic structure of In2x_{2-x}Vx_xO3_3 (x=0.08x=0.08) has been investigated using photoemission spectroscopy (PES) and x-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS). The V 2p2p core-level PES and XAS spectra revealed trivalent electronic state of the V ion, consistent with the substitution of the V ion for the In site. The V 3d partial density of states obtained by the resonant PES technique showed a sharp peak above the O 2p2p band. While the O 1s1s XAS spectrum of In2x_{2-x}Vx_xO3_3 was similar to that of In2_2O3_3, there were differences in the In 3p3p and 3d XAS spectra between V-doped and pure In2_2O3_3. The observations give clear evidence for hybridization between the In conduction band and the V 3d orbitals in In2x_{2-x}Vx_xO3_3.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure
