Self-Employment and Risk Preference
We explore the relationship between self-employment and attitudes towards financial risk using individual level data drawn from the U.S. Survey of Consumer Finances (SCF) and the U.S. Panel Study of Income Dynamics (PSID). Both surveys include questions, which enable us to construct measures of an individual´s willingness to take risk allowing us to explore the implications of interpersonal differences in risk preference for the probability and success of self-employment. Our empirical findings suggest that willingness to take financial risk is positively associated with both the incidence and success of self-employment. We find that this relationship is particularly pronounced in cases where the individual actually started the business. Finally, we exploit the panel aspect of the PSID and find evidence consistent with a causal relationship between attitudes towards risk and self-employment with attitudes towards risk measured over 1969-1972 (i.e. prior to becoming self-employed) having a statistically significant positive influence on the probability of self-employment in 1996
CO2-crystal wettability in potassic magmas. Implications for eruptive dynamics in light of experimental evidence for heterogeneous nucleation.
The volatile content in magmas is fundamental for the triggering and style of volcanic eruptions. Carbon dioxide, the second most abundant volatile component in magmas after H2O, is the first to reach saturation upon ascent and depressurization. We investigate experimentally CO2-bubble nucleation in trachybasalt and trachyte melts at high temperature and high pressure (HT and HP) through wetting-angle measurements on different (sialic, mafic or oxide) phenocryst phases. The presence of crystals lowers the supersaturation required for CO2- bubble nucleation up to 37 per cent (heterogeneous nucleation, HeN), with a minor role of mineral chemistry. Different from H2O-rich systems, feldspar crystals are effective in reducing required supersaturation for bubble nucleation. Our data suggest that leucite, the dominant liquidus phase in ultrapotassic systems at shallow depth (i.e. <100 MPa), facilitates late-stage, extensive magma vesiculation through CO2 HeN, which may explain the shifting of CO2-rich eruptive systems towards an apparently anomalous explosive behaviour

Abundance and temperature distributions in the hot intra-cluster gas of Abell 4059
Using the EPIC and RGS data from a deep (~200 ks) XMM-Newton observation, we
investigate the temperature structure (kT and sigma_T ) and the abundances of 9
elements (O, Ne, Mg, Si, S, Ar, Ca, Fe and Ni) of the intra-cluster medium
(ICM) in the nearby (z=0.046) cool-core galaxy cluster Abell 4059. Next to a
deep analysis of the cluster core, a careful modelling of the EPIC background
allows us to build radial profiles up to 12' (~650 kpc) from the core. Probably
because of projection effects, the temperature ICM is found not to be in single
phase, even in the outer parts of the cluster. The abundances of Ne, Si, S, Ar,
Ca and Fe, but also O are peaked towards the core. Fe and O are still
significantly detected in the outermost annuli; suggesting that the enrichment
by both type Ia and core-collapse SNe started in the early stages of the
cluster formation. However, the particularly high Ca/Fe ratio that we find in
the core is not well reproduced by the standard SNe yield models. Finally, 2-D
maps of temperature and Fe abundance are presented and confirm the existence of
a denser, colder, and Fe-rich ridge southwest of the core, previously observed
by Chandra. The origin of this asymmetry in the hot gas of the cluster core is
still unclear, but might be explained by a past intense ram-pressure stripping

The Elephant Trunk Nebula and the Trumpler 37 cluster: Contribution of triggered star formation to the total population of an HII region
Rich young stellar clusters produce HII regions whose expansion into the
nearby molecular cloud is thought to trigger the formation of new stars.
However, the importance of this mode of star formation is uncertain. This
investigation seeks to quantify triggered star formation (TSF) in IC 1396A
(a.k.a., the Elephant Trunk Nebula), a bright rimmed cloud (BRC) on the
periphery of the nearby giant HII region IC 1396 produced by the Trumpler 37
cluster. X-ray selection of young stars from Chandra X-ray Observatory data is
combined with existing optical and infrared surveys to give a more complete
census of the TSF population. Over 250 young stars in and around IC 1396A are
identified; this doubles the previously known population. A spatio-temporal
gradient of stars from the IC 1396A cloud toward the primary ionizing star HD
206267 is found. We argue that the TSF mechanism in IC 1396A is the
radiation-driven implosion process persisting over several million years.
Analysis of the X-ray luminosity and initial mass functions indicates that >140
stars down to 0.1 Msun were formed by TSF. Considering other BRCs in the IC
1396 HII region, we estimate the TSF contribution for the entire HII region
exceeds 14-25% today, and may be higher over the lifetime of the HII region.
Such triggering on the periphery of HII regions may be a significant mode of

Disk evolution in the Ori OB1 association
We analyze multi-band photometry of a subsample of low mass stars in the
associations Ori OB1a and 1b discovered during the CIDA Orion Variability
Survey, which have ages of 7 - 10 Myr and 3 - 5 Myr, respectively. We obtained
UBVRcIc photometry at Mt. Hopkins for 6 Classical T Tauri stars (CTTS) and 26
Weak T Tauri stars (WTTS) in Ori OB1a, and for 21 CTTS and 2 WTTS in Ori OB1b.
We also obtained L band photometry for 14 CTTS at Mt. Hopkins, and 10um and
18um photometry with OSCIR at Gemini for 6 CTTS; of these, all 6 were detected
at 10um while only one was detected at 18um. We estimate mass accretion rates
from the excess luminosity at U, and find that they are consistent with
determinations for a number of other associations, with or without high mass
star formation. The observed decrease of mass accretion rate with age is
qualitatively consistent with predictions of viscous evolution of accretion
disks. We find an overall decrease of disk emission from Taurus to Ori OB1b to
Ori OB1a. This decrease implies that significant grain growth and settling
towards the midplane has taken place in the inner disks of Ori OB1. We compare
the SED of the star detected at both 10um and 18um with disk models for similar
stellar and accretion parameters. We find that the low <= 18 um fluxes of this
Ori OB1b star cannot be due to the smaller disk radius expected from viscous
evolution in the presence of the FUV radiation fields from the OB stars in the
association. Instead, we find that the disk of this star is essentially a flat
disk, with little if any flaring, indicating a a significant degree of dust
settling towards the midplane, as expected from dust evolution in

The bronchodilator response in preschool children: A systematic review
BACKGROUND: The bronchodilator response (BDR) is frequently used to support diagnostic and therapeutic decision-making for children who wheeze. However, there is little evidence-based guidance describing the role of BDR testing in preschool children and it is unclear whether published cut-off values, which are derived from adult data, can be applied to this population. METHODS: We searched MEDLINE, EMBASE, Web of Science, and Cochrane databases (inception-September 2015) for studies reporting response to a bronchodilator in healthy preschool children, response following placebo inhalation, and the diagnostic efficacy of BDR compared with a clinical diagnosis of asthma/recurrent wheezing. FINDINGS: We included 14 studies. Thirteen studies provided BDR data from healthy preschool children. Two studies reported response to placebo in preschool children with asthma/recurrent wheezing. Twelve studies compared BDR measurements from preschool children with asthma/recurrent wheeze to those from healthy children and seven of these studies reported diagnostic efficacy. Significant differences between the BDR measured in healthy preschool children compared with that in children with asthma/recurrent wheeze were demonstrated in some, but not all studies. Techniques such as interrupter resistance, oscillometry, and plethysmography were more consistently successfully completed than spirometry. Between study heterogeneity precluded determination of an optimum technique. INTERPRETATION: There is little evidence to suggest spirometry-based BDR can be used in the clinical assessment of preschool children who wheeze. Further evaluation of simple alternative techniques is required. Future studies should recruit children in whom airways disease is suspected and should evaluate the ability of BDR testing to predict treatment response
