    Momentum and market correlation

    This paper proposes that an important source of momentum profits is market information associated with correlation to general market movements. Empirical tests for U.S. stocks in the sample period 1965 to 2013 indicate that most momentum profits can be attributed to the correlation of big- and medium-capitalization stocks with the CRSP market index. Further results show that small loser stocks have low correlation to the market and post-formation return reversal, small losers can be added to long winner portfolios to enhance profits, and momentum crashes can be reduced by suspending portfolio formation in bear markets. We conclude that momentum profits are related to market information and therefore not entirely anomalous as commonly believed

    Degradation assessment of nuclear power plant extraction steam piping after long term service

    Degradation due to ageing in a Nuclear Power Plant’s Extraction Steam Piping has been assessed. Samples of twelve years old seamless carbon steel SA 106B pipe have been taken and subjected to metallographic examination, hardness testing, radiographic examination and ultrasonic thickness measurement to investigate and analyze ageing in piping material. Metallographic examination of aged sample revealed irregularly distributed graphite nodules in ferrite grains and on grain boundaries as well, the reduction in pearlite phase has also been observed from 40% to 25%. This Transformation in microstructure has reduced hardness of steel. Reduction in hardness has found 20.4% and 0.7% on inner and outer layer of the pipe material respectively. Corrosion pits having average depth of 0.07 mm have been found on external surface. Radiograph of aged pipe revealed material removal and wall thinning due to erosion on inner surface of pipe. The extent of erosion had been checked, which has found 8.7%

    Modeling Sustainable Traffic Behavior: Avoiding Congestion at a Stationary Bottleneck

    Sustainable traffic behaviour is increasing in importance as traffic volume rises due to population growth. In this paper, a model for traffic flow at a stationary bottleneck is developed to determine the parameters that cause congestion. Towards this goal, traffic density, speed, and delay were acquired during peak and off-peak periods in the morning and afternoon at a stationary bottleneck in Peshawar, KPK, Pakistan. The morning and afternoon peak periods have high densities, low speeds, and considerable delays. Regression models are developed using this data. These results indicate that there is a linear relationship between density and time at the stationary bottleneck and a negative linear relationship between density and speed. Thus, an increase in density increases the time delay and reduces the speed. I comprehensive traffic delay model is characterized by a stationary bottleneck. The Kolmogorov-Smirnov (KS) test and P-values were used to identify the best-fit distribution for speed and density. The binomial and generalized extreme values are considered the best fits for density and speed.     Clinical management of cutaneous bovine papillomatosis in a cow calf: a case report

    A Sahiwal breed heifer calf of ~ 5-month age was presented with numerous warts of varying sizes principally on head, face and neck. The history and clinical examination were suggestive of bovine cutaneous papillomatosis. The animal was treated medically with an alternative medicine: Thuja occidentalis 30X. The warts regressed completely after two months of treatment with Thuja occidentalis, suggesting this medicine can be used to treat warts in bovines successfully

The suggested scheme has up to fourth order accuracy. Lastly, some numerical experiments are given to show the accuracy and performance of the proposed scheme

    Prevalence and risk factors of hepatitis B and C in Bahawalpur: a hospital-based study

    Abstract Hepatitis causes inflammation of the liver. The World Health Organization set a goal to eliminate viral hepatitis by 2030 due to an increase in the number of deaths from liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. The present study aimed to determine the prevalence of hepatitis B and C among the general population of Bahawalpur, along with various recognized risk factors. Samples were collected from December 2021 to May 2022. In total, 263 blood samples were collected from the patients who visited Bahawalpur Victoria Hospital, Bahawalpur Pakistan. A rapid diagnostic test (ICT) was used to diagnose Hepatitis B surface antigen and anti-HCV, followed by an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The data were analyzed using IBM SPSS version 22. In total, 263 samples were tested; 5.3% (14/263) tested positive for HBV, 25.4% (67/263) tested positive for HCV, and 0.76% (2/263) were co-infected. The study found a significant association between illiteracy 24% (63/263) and literacy 7.6% (20/263) (P = 0.001), age (31-40 years) 11% (29/263) (P = 0.027), hospitalization 38% (100/263) versus non-hospitalization 62% (163/263) (P = 0.008), and patients who had received any dental treatment 20.9% (55/263) versus those who had not 79.1% (208/263) (P = 0.057). According to the study, people who frequently visited hospitals received no medical care and were unaware of the causes of disease transmission, made them more susceptible to infection. The study will help formulate policies and adopt precautionary measures to control the increasing incidence of hepatitis B and C in Pakistan

    Diversity of aquatic parasites in pristine spring waters in Tehsil Babuzai, Swat, Pakistan

    Abstract Global access to clean and safe drinking water remains a formidable challenge, contributing to a myriad of health issues. This research exposes the existence of waterborne parasites in seemingly pristine spring waters, indicating potential contamination. Daily extensive sampling of Seventeen water sources was conducted in the untarnished freshwater streams of Tehsil Babuzai, District Swat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, from February to September 2021. Employing a stringent filtration process, the collected samples were effectively concentrated to detect any waterborne parasites. Subsequent application of the wet mount technique, combined with the capabilities of a compound microscope, revealed a disconcerting reality: all examined samples tested positive for various parasites. Identified parasites included Schistosoma species, Ascaris lumbricoides, Trichiuria trichiuria, Taenia saginata, Entamoeba histolytica, Amoeba, Lacrymana olor, Tintinnids, Paramecium, Dileptus, Euglena, Loxodes striatus, Acanthocyclops lynceus, Spondylosium, Oscillatoria, Cyanobacteria, Cilindros, Cilindros cerro, Commensal amoeba mature cysts,, Filliform larva of Strongyloides, Cercaria larva, Larva of Taenia solium, Egg of Enterobius vermiculais, Egg of Isospora belli, Egg of Tapeworm, Egg of Schistosoma species, Egg of Toxocara, and Egg of Diphyllobothrium latum. These findings clearly demonstrate the presence of a diverse array of parasites in the freshwater springs of Tehsil Babuzai, Swat, Pakistan. Implementing robust water treatment protocols, conducting regular monitoring and testing, and raising awareness about the risks of waterborne parasites are crucial steps to safeguard public health in the region

    Multigrid Method for 2D Helmholtz Equation using Higher Order Finite Difference Scheme Accelerated by Krylov Subspace

    ABSTRACT A sixth-order compact difference scheme is applied with uniform mesh sizes in different coordinate directions to discretize a two dimensional Helmholtz equation. Multigrid method is designed to solve the resulting sparse linear systems. Numerical results are conducted to test the accuracy and performance of the sixth-order compact difference scheme with multigrid method and to compare it with the standard second-order difference scheme and fourth-order compact difference scheme. The errors norms L 2 is used to establish efficiency and accuracy of the proposed scheme with multigrid method
