The poverty of journal publishing
The article opens with a critical analysis of the dominant business model of for-profit, academic publishing, arguing that the extraordinarily high profits of the big publishers are dependent upon a double appropriation that exploits both academic labour and universities’ financial resources. Against this model, we outline four possible responses: the further development of open access repositories, a fair trade model of publishing regulation, a renaissance of the university presses, and, finally, a move away from private, for-profit publishing companies toward autonomous journal publishing by editorial boards and academic associations. </jats:p
From Scattering Amplitudes to the Dilatation Generator in N=4 SYM
The complete spin chain representation of the planar N=4 SYM dilatation
generator has long been known at one loop, where it involves leading
nearest-neighbor 2 -> 2 interactions. In this work we use superconformal
symmetry to derive the unique solution for the leading L -> 2 interactions of
the planar dilatation generator for arbitrarily large L. We then propose that
these interactions are given by the scattering operator that has N=4 SYM
tree-level scattering amplitudes as matrix elements. We provide compelling
evidence for this proposal, including explicit checks for L=2,3 and a proof of
consistency with superconformal symmetry.Comment: 39 pages, v2: reference added and minor changes, published versio
Fermionic T-duality in the pp-wave limit
AdS5 X S5 and its pp-wave limit are self-dual under transformations involving
eight fermionic T-dualities, a property which accounts for symmetries seen in
scattering amplitudes in N=4 super-Yang-Mills. Despite strong evidence for
similar symmetries in the amplitudes of three-dimensional N=6 ABJM theory, a
corresponding self-duality in the dual geometry AdS4 X CP3 currently eludes us.
Here, working with the type IIA pp-wave limit of AdS4 X CP3 preserving twenty
four supercharges, we show that the pp-wave is self-dual with respect to eight
commuting fermionic T-dualities and not the six expected. In addition, we show
the same symmetry can be found in a superposition pp-wave and a generic pp-wave
with twenty and sixteen unbroken supersymmetries respectively, strongly
suggesting that self-duality under fermionic T-duality may be a symmetry of all
pp-waves.Comment: 21 pages, typos fixe
On form factors in N=4 sym
In this paper we study the form factors for the half-BPS operators
and the stress tensor supermultiplet
current up to the second order of perturbation theory and for the
Konishi operator at first order of perturbation theory in
SYM theory at weak coupling. For all the objects we observe the
exponentiation of the IR divergences with two anomalous dimensions: the cusp
anomalous dimension and the collinear anomalous dimension. For the IR finite
parts we obtain a similar situation as for the gluon scattering amplitudes,
namely, apart from the case of and the finite part has
some remainder function which we calculate up to the second order. It involves
the generalized Goncharov polylogarithms of several variables. All the answers
are expressed through the integrals related to the dual conformal invariant
ones which might be a signal of integrable structure standing behind the form
factors.Comment: 35 pages, 7 figures, LATEX2
Self-duality of the D1-D5 near-horizon
We explore fermionic T-duality and self-duality in the geometry AdS3 x S3 x
T4 in type IIB supergravity. We explicitly construct the Killing spinors and
the fermionic T-duality isometries and show that the geometry is self-dual
under a combination of two bosonic AdS3 T-dualities, four fermionic T-dualities
and either two additional T-dualities along T4 or two T-dualities along S3. In
addition, we show that the presence of a B-field acts as an obstacle to
self-duality, a property attributable to S- duality and fermionic T-duality not
commuting. Finally, we argue that fermionic T-duality may be extended to CY2 =
K3, a setting where we cannot explicitly construct the Killing spinors.Comment: 24 pages, references added, changes made to reinforce the point that
S-duality and fermionic T-duality generically do not commute, version

Dual Conformal Properties of Six-Dimensional Maximal Super Yang-Mills Amplitudes
We demonstrate that the tree-level amplitudes of maximal super-Yang-Mills
theory in six dimensions, when stripped of their overall momentum and
supermomentum delta functions, are covariant with respect to the
six-dimensional dual conformal group. Using the generalized unitarity method,
we demonstrate that this property is also present for loop amplitudes. Since
the six-dimensional amplitudes can be interpreted as massive four-dimensional
ones, this implies that the six-dimensional symmetry is also present in the
massively regulated four-dimensional maximal super-Yang-Mills amplitudes.Comment: 20 pages, 3 figures, minor clarification, references update
From Correlators to Wilson Loops in Chern-Simons Matter Theories
We study n-point correlation functions for chiral primary operators in three
dimensional supersymmetric Chern-Simons matter theories. Our analysis is
carried on in N=2 superspace and covers N=2,3 supersymmetric CFT's, the N=6
ABJM and the N=8 BLG models. In the limit where the positions of adjacent
operators become light-like, we find that the one-loop n-point correlator
divided by its tree level expression coincides with a light-like n-polygon
Wilson loop. Remarkably, the result can be simply expressed as a linear
combination of five dimensional two-mass easy boxes. We manage to evaluate the
integrals analytically and find a vanishing result, in agreement with previous
findings for Wilson loops.Comment: 32 pages, 6 figures, JHEP
Single-valued harmonic polylogarithms and the multi-Regge limit
We argue that the natural functions for describing the multi-Regge limit of
six-gluon scattering in planar N=4 super Yang-Mills theory are the
single-valued harmonic polylogarithmic functions introduced by Brown. These
functions depend on a single complex variable and its conjugate, (w,w*). Using
these functions, and formulas due to Fadin, Lipatov and Prygarin, we determine
the six-gluon MHV remainder function in the leading-logarithmic approximation
(LLA) in this limit through ten loops, and the next-to-LLA (NLLA) terms through
nine loops. In separate work, we have determined the symbol of the four-loop
remainder function for general kinematics, up to 113 constants. Taking its
multi-Regge limit and matching to our four-loop LLA and NLLA results, we fix
all but one of the constants that survive in this limit. The multi-Regge limit
factorizes in the variables (\nu,n) which are related to (w,w*) by a
Fourier-Mellin transform. We can transform the single-valued harmonic
polylogarithms to functions of (\nu,n) that incorporate harmonic sums,
systematically through transcendental weight six. Combining this information
with the four-loop results, we determine the eigenvalues of the BFKL kernel in
the adjoint representation to NNLLA accuracy, and the MHV product of impact
factors to NNNLLA accuracy, up to constants representing beyond-the-symbol
terms and the one symbol-level constant. Remarkably, only derivatives of the
polygamma function enter these results. Finally, the LLA approximation to the
six-gluon NMHV amplitude is evaluated through ten loops.Comment: 71 pages, 2 figures, plus 10 ancillary files containing analytic
