Segment-level evaluation of the simulated aggregation test: US corn and soybean exploratory experiment
An evaluation of the corn and soybean proportion-estimation accuracy and dot labeling accuracy of the Simulated Aggregation Test, U.S. Corn and Soybean Exploratory Experiment, is presented. These results are in turn compared with the corn and soybean proportion-estimation accuracy and dot labeling accuracy of the Classification Procedures Verification Test
CP violating phases in mu-e conversion
Experiments are planned to improve the sensitivity of mu-e conversion from
the current ~ 10^{-12} to 10^{-16} - 10^{-18}. If the muon (bound to the
nucleus) could be polarised, a spin asymmetry of the final state electron is
sensitive to CP violating phases on lepton flavour violating operators. This is
similar to extracting phases from asymmetries in the final state spin and phase
space distributions of mu to 3e and mu to e gamma.Comment: 4 pages, no figures, some typos correcte
Genomic control of patterning
The development of multicellular organisms involves the partitioning of the organism into territories of cells of specific structure and function. The information for spatial patterning processes is directly encoded in the genome. The genome determines its own usage depending on stage and position, by means of interactions that constitute gene regulatory networks (GRNs). The GRN driving endomesoderm development in sea urchin embryos illustrates different regulatory strategies by which developmental programs are initiated, orchestrated, stabilized or excluded to define the pattern of specified territories in the developing embryo
The Top Priority: Precision Electroweak Physics from Low to High Energy
Overall, the Standard Model describes electroweak precision data rather well.
There are however a few areas of tension (charged current universality, NuTeV,
(g-2)_\mu, b quark asymmetries), which I review emphasizing recent theoretical
and experimental progress. I also discuss what precision data tell us about the
Higgs boson and new physics scenarios. In this context, the role of a precise
measurement of the top mass is crucial.Comment: 12 pages; invited talk at 21st International Symposium on Lepton and

Addressing data management training needs: a practice based approach from the UK
In this paper, we describe the current challenges to the effective management and preservation of research data in UK universities, and the response provided by the JISC Managing Research Data programme.
This paper will discuss, inter alia, the findings and conclusions from data management training projects of the first iteration of the programme and how they informed the design of the second, paying particular attention to initiatives to develop and embed training materials
EXAMINING QUALITY INDICATOR RATES FOR OLDER HOME CARE CLIENTS WITH DUAL SENSORY IMPAIRMENT (DSI) AND EXPLORING THE HETEROGENEITY WITHIN DSI.
Older adults with impairments in both hearing and vision, called dual sensory impairment (DSI), are at an increased risk of negative health outcomes such as impaired communication and difficulties with mobility. It is unknown whether DSI is associated with potential quality of care issues. This study used a set of home care quality indicators (HCQIs) to examine potential quality issues in older clients (65+) with DSI. Further, it looked to explore how HCQI rates differed based on the geographic region of care and whether the client’s level of hearing and vision impairment was related to certain HCQIs. The HCQIs were generated from data collected using the Resident Assessment Instrument for Home Care and capture undesirable outcomes (e.g., falls, cognitive decline). Higher rates indicate a greater frequency of experiencing the issue. In this sample (n=352,656), the average age was 82.8 years (sd=7.9), the majority were female (63.2%), and 20.5% experienced DSI. Compared to those without DSI, clients with DSI had higher rates across 20 of the 22 HCQIs. The HCQI rates differed by geographic region, with specific regions consistently performing worse than others. Finally, the level of hearing and vision impairment was related to certain HCQIs more than others, for example hearing impairment appeared to be more related to the quality indicator measuring communication difficulty. Overall, the hope is that this information can help to identify some of the potential issues around quality and in turn, assist in continually improving the services being provided to these clients
Bi-Maximal Neutrino Mixing in the MSSM with a Single Right-Handed Neutrino
We discuss neutrino masses in the framework of a minimal extension of the
minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) consisting of an additional single
right-handed neutrino superfield with a heavy Majorana mass , which
induces a single light see-saw mass leaving two neutrinos massless
at tree-level. This trivial extension to the MSSM may account for the
atomospheric neutrino data via oscillations by
assuming a near maximal mixing angle and taking . In order to account for
the solar neutrino data we appeal to one-loop radiative corrections involving
internal loops of SUSY particles, which we show can naturally generate an
additional light neutrino mass again with near
maximal mixing angle . The resulting scheme corresponds
to so-called ``bi-maximal'' neutrino mixing involving ``just-so'' solar
oscillations.Comment: 18 pages, Latex. References to bi-maximal mixing fixe

Basis Independent Measures of R-parity Violation
We construct basis-independent expressions that measure the magnitude of
-parity breaking due to possible superpotential terms in the Minimal
Supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model, in the absence of soft
supersymmetry-breaking terms and spontaneous gauge symmetry breaking. We also
discuss briefly their application to a consistent treatment of cosmological
constraints on -parity violation.Comment: 13 pages, Late
