In writing this thesis, the writer discussed about ‘~Houga ii as Modalities Toui In Japanese Sentence’. The writer took this theme to examine how the structure and meaning of houga ii. The purpose of this research is to describe the structure and meaning of houga ii in Japanese sentences. The method that used in this research is “agih” method. “Agih” method is data analysis method which is using part of the relevant language as the determination tool. Primary data that is used in this research is Haruki Murakami's novel ‘1Q84’. Besides, the data came from a song and the internet (Japanese web). Houga ii has a basic structure ~yori ~houga ii, which has functions as a comparison between two different things. Houga ii can be used together with adjective, noun, and verb. Verbs that can be used with houga ii is past tense, dictionary form and negative form. Houga ii also has a variation of a question form, those question words are ‘dochira’ and ‘izure’. There is also a variety of forms, that is houga yokatta. Houga ii has the basic meanings 'advice’ or ‘comparison'. In Indonesian, houga ii has meaning 'sebaiknya’ or ‘lebih baik'. Advice meaning can be used to suggest ourselves, interlocutors/listener, or for the general case. Houga ii can also indicate of a regret and dissatisfaction. Keywords : Modalitas, toui, houga ii

Translation Shift in the Translated Novel of “to Kill a Mockingbird” by Femmy Syahrianni

The aim of this study were to find out category shift types used in thetranslation of novel To Kill A Bird and to describe of how category shift is translatedin the novel from English into Indonesian. This study were conducted by usingdescriptive qualitative method. The data of the study were words, phrases, andclauses in the novel To Kill A Mockingbird which is translated into Indonesian byFemmy Syahrianni. It was found that there were 280 data in the novel from Englishinto Indonesian. The data analysis were taken by listing and bolding. Documentarysheets used as the instrument to collect the data. The data were analyzed based onMiles and Huberman (2014) by condensation which consists of selecting, focusing,simplifying, abstracting and transforming and then data display by using table inorder to get easy analyzing the data. The result of this study were (1) there were fourtypes of category shifts found in the novel To Kill a Mockingbird namely; structureshifts (36.78%), class shift (27.14%), unit shift (32.5%) and intra-system shift(3.27%). (2) The process of category shifts in the translation novel by havingmodifier-head in source language changed into head-modifier in target language,adverb in source language changed into verb in target language, one unit in sourcelanguage changed into some units in target language. and plural in source languagechanged into singular in target language

Uji Model Dinding Penahan Tanah dengan Timbunan Gambut Menggunakan Perkuatan Fleksibel Terpal

Kebutuhan konstruksi penahan yang digunakan untuk mencegah terjadinya kelongsoran menurut kemiringan alaminya semakin hari bertambah luas, hal inilah yang mendasari dibuatnya konstruksi dinding penahan tanah pada tanah gambut. Permasalahan yang timbul bilamana akan membangun diatas lapisan tanah gambut adalah terbatasnya informasi mengenai perilaku dan cara memperkirakan pemampatan serta metode Perubahan lapisan tanah gambut, oleh sebab itu digunakan perkuatan fleksibel terpal karena lebih ekonomis dan mudah didapatkan.Pengujian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui besarnya pengaruh variasi lebar perkuatan (LR) dengan Spasi antar perkuatan (SV) yang sama (perkuatan fleksibel terpal yang tertancap didinding penahan tanah) dalam timbunan tanah gambut. Metodologi peneltian yang digunakan adalah pengujian dengan skala laboratorium. Data yang diperoleh dari pengujian tersebut kemudian dianalisa sehingga didapatkan tegangan lateral minimum, pergeseran minimum dan beban maksimum pada setiap variasi perkuatan. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa setiap variasi lebar perkuatan memiliki batasan maksimum masing-masing dalam menerima pembebanan, pergeseran serta tegangan lateral yang terjadi, apabila pembebanan diteruskan maka pergeseran dan tegangan lateral akan konstan (tidak berubah). Pemberian perkuatan dapat mempengaruhi besarnya tegangan lateral minimum dengan nilai 0,01014 kg/cm2, pergeseran minimum dengan nilai 38,2 mm serta pembebanan maksimum yang dapat ditahan oleh dinding penahan tanah tersebut dengan nilai maksimum 270 kg
