Subdural hematoma (SDH) usually occurs secondary to trauma, in bleeding disorders it may occur spontaneously. It is a rare complication of immune thrombocytopenia. Here we report a case of 45 years female presenting with presenting with complaints of headache, palpitation and menorrhagia and later diagnosed to be a case of Grave's disease with thrombocytopenia with sub dural hematoma. No such case reports are available in literature

Spontaneous Bacterial Peritonitis Presenting as Acute Abdomen in a Patient with Chronic Kidney Disease

Spontaneous bacterial peritonitis (SBP) is a relatively common problem in adult patients with liver cirrhosis. The complication of SBP in adults with chronic kidney disease on maintenance hemodialysis is, however, extremely rare. To best of our knowledge this is probably the first case report

The fisheries sector of India is immensely contributing to the economy of the country. It provides valuable fore ign exchange and employment to millions of people. At the same time it is an instrument of livelihood for a large section of economically backward population of the country

Effect of androgenic gland ablation on sexual characters of the male Indian white prawn Penaeus indicus H. Milne Edwards.

Bilateral and rectomy was carried out in penaeid prawns. Results indicated that in the absence of androgenic glallds male secondary sexual characters once lost cannot be regenerated. Andrectomy also appeared to block spermatogonial differentiation

Chronic Pancreatitis Presenting as Recurrent Pleural Effusion

Chronic Pancreatitis presenting as recurrent pleural effusion is an uncommon and often unrecognized clinical syndrome. The effusion frequently occurs without clinical evidence of pancreatitis, but occasionally it may be associated with calcification and pseudocyst of the pancreas. They usually presents as an exudative effusion of unknown cause and characterized by very high levels of amylase in the pleural fluid. In this report, a case of massive pancreatic pleural effusions are presented which was recurrent initially right sided and few month later left side

Neuroendocrine Regulation of ovarian maturation in the Indian white prawn Penaeus indicus H. Milne Edwards. Aquaculture, 98: 381-393. The control and regulation of ovarian maturation by neurosecretory elements in the eyestalk, brain and thoracic ganglia of Penaeus indicus have been examined. In the X-organ complex of the eyestalk, secretions from type A and B cells are apparently involved in inhibiting ovarian maturation, while in the brain and thoracic ganglia, secretions from type GN, A and B ce!ls had a stimulatory effect on the ovary. The pyriform C cells were not involved with ovarian maturation. Both unilateral and bilateral eyestalk ablation resulted in precocious maturation of the ovary. The histology of the remaining eyestalk in unilaterally ablated animals revealed that all the NSCs in the X-organs were in a suppressed state and the sinus gland was devoid of granular aggregations. Abnormal behaviour was noticed in bilaterally ablated prawns and strangely few animals moulted with developing ovaries. Due to the synchronous occurrence of moulting and reproductive activities the probability of both gonad and moult inhibiting hormones being the same is discussed. In addition the relationship between gonadal maturation and the moult cycle has also been studied

Women in fisheries sector and entrepreneurship development: Steps for improvement

Aquaculture now plays a multi-disciplinary role and aims at providing food security generating employment; economic gains the optimum utilization of resources and finally upliftmcnt of the socio-economical status for those who are directly or indirectly connected with exploitation, production and processing of fish. It has vast potential in providing livelihood security as well as fulfilling the nutritional requirements of the growing population. Traditionally, aquaculture in Southeast Asia has been carried out at the household level with family members often contributing to different activities at specific times. In recent years, it has become a commercial activity and easily accessible in peri-urban areas with access to inputs and markets. Improvement in fish breeding and husbandry technologies, as well as the introduction of new or modified species, mainly through government and non-government organization (NGO) helped in increasing production levels through small-scale rural aquaculture

Biochemical changes in different tissues during yolk synthesis in marine prawn Penaeus indicus H. Milne Edwards

Biochemical changes taking place in ovary, hepatopancreas, muscle and haemolymph of P. indicus during ovarian maturation have been studied and quantified. The trends in the fluctuation of metabolites indicate that in ovary th~re is considerable accumulation of protein, lipid, cholester9l and carotenoids but loss of moisture and nucleic acids. Translocation of these metabolites takes place from the chief synthetic and storage organ, hepatopancreas, via haemolymph. During the initial stages of yolk synthesis, ovary is autosynthetic as indicated by high RNA values and RNNprotein ratio. Subsequently the mode of yolk formation shifts to heterosynthesis mainly through the uptake of lipid from hepatopancreas. RNNDNA ratio has been found to be useful as an index of ovarian growth
