Normal families of functions and groups of pseudoconformal diffeomorphisms of quaternion and octonion variables
This paper is devoted to the specific class of pseudoconformal mappings of
quaternion and octonion variables. Normal families of functions are defined and
investigated. Four criteria of a family being normal are proven. Then groups of
pseudoconformal diffeomorphisms of quaternion and octonion manifolds are
investigated. It is proven, that they are finite dimensional Lie groups for
compact manifolds. Their examples are given. Many charactersitic features are
found in comparison with commutative geometry over or .Comment: 55 pages, 53 reference
Laboratory data integration into medical record
Laboratory Information System, integrated with the Hospital Information System, has been developed at the G.Pasquinucci Hospital, section of Institute of Clinical Physiology of National Research Council (CNR), specialized in adult and paediatric cardiac surgery. The aim was to automate the testing process from clinical departments to laboratory and back into medical record. Laboratory workflow consists of three parts: (a) test ordering by clinical staff, printing bar-coded ID labels and transmitting orders by network to laboratory; (b) processing test requests and controlling identified specimens by laboratory staff, providing work orders to analytical instruments and validation of results authorizing delivery into the hospital clinical repository; (c) consulting test results in clinical departments by referring physicians through the electronic medical record. This year the system has been used on adult patients processing 135000 laboratory tests concerning chemistry, haematology, coagulation and immunology

Validation of dynamic risk analysis supporting integrated operations across systems
Dynamic risk analysis (DRA) is a novel industrial approach that aims to capture changes in operational conditions over time and quantify their effect on risk. This aspect may be advantageous for providing insight into the causal factors that have substantial risk contributions and supporting decisions related to risk control. Some DRA methods were developed by the oil and gas industry to support the integration of work processes and the cooperation across virtual clusters, e.g., between offshore and onshore systems and/or oil company and supplier. However, DRA has not been extensively adopted and limited attention is given to its validity in practical applications. The objective of this article is to illustrate how this validity can be established based on common validation approaches for risk analysis. The case study focuses on a DRA method named risk barometer that was developed to support integrated operations across the oil and gas industrial systems. The outcome of this study may serve as a basis for the validation of other DRA methods, the use of DRA in practical cases, and ultimately the achievement of integrated operations (IO) capabilities
The Neonatal Fc Receptor (FcRn) Enhances Human Immunodeficiency Virus Type 1 (HIV-1) Transcytosis across Epithelial Cells
The mechanisms by which human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) crosses mucosal surfaces to establish infection are unknown. Acidic genital secretions of HIV-1-infected women contain HIV-1 likely coated by antibody. We found that the combination of acidic pH and Env-specific IgG, including that from cervicovaginal and seminal fluids of HIV-1-infected individuals, augmented transcytosis across epithelial cells as much as 20-fold compared with Env-specific IgG at neutral pH or non-specific IgG at either pH. Enhanced transcytosis was observed with clinical HIV-1 isolates, including transmitted/founder strains, and was eliminated in Fc neonatal receptor (FcRn)-knockdown epithelial cells. Non-neutralizing antibodies allowed similar or less transcytosis than neutralizing antibodies. However, the ratio of total:infectious virus was higher for neutralizing antibodies, indicating that they allowed transcytosis while blocking infectivity of transcytosed virus. Immunocytochemistry revealed abundant FcRn expression in columnar epithelia lining the human endocervix and penile urethra. Acidity and Env-specific IgG enhance transcytosis of virus across epithelial cells via FcRn and could facilitate translocation of virus to susceptible target cells following sexual exposure

A test on Ellenberg indicator values in the Mediterranean evergreen woods (Quercetea ilicis)
The consistency and reliability of Ellenberg’s indicator values (Eiv) as ecological descriptors of the Mediterranean evergreen vegetation ascribed to the phytosociological class Quercetea ilicis have been checked on a set of 859 phytosociological relevés × 699 species. Diagnostic species were identified through a Twinspan analysis and their Eiv analyzed and related to the following independent variables: (1) annual mean temperatures, (2) annual rainfall. The results provided interesting insights to disentangle the current syntaxonomical framework at the alliance level demonstrating the usefulness of ecological indicator values to test the efficiency and predictivity of the phytosociological classification
