Nonclassical polarization dynamics in classical-like states

    Get PDF
Quantum polarization is investigated by means of a trajectory picture based on the Bohmian formulation of quantum mechanics. Relevant examples of classical-like two-mode field states are thus examined, namely Glauber and SU(2) coherent states. Although these states are often regarded as classical, the analysis here shows that the corresponding electric-field polarization trajectories display topologies very different from those expected from classical electrodynamics. Rather than incompatibility with the usual classical model, this result demonstrates the dynamical richness of quantum motions, determined by local variations of the system quantum phase in the corresponding (polarization) configuration space, absent in classical-like models. These variations can be related to the evolution in time of the phase, but also to its dependence on configurational coordinates, which is the crucial factor to generate motion in the case of stationary states like those here considered. In this regard, for completeness these results are compared those obtained from nonclassical N00N states.Comment: 8 pages, 3 figure

Theory of Multiband Superconductivity in Iron Pnictides

The precise nature of unconventional superconductivity in Iron Pnictides is presently a hotly debated issue. Here, using insights from normal state electronic structure and symmetry arguments, we show how an unconventional SC emerges from the bad metal "normal" state. Short-ranged, multi-band spin- and charge correlations generates nodeless SC in the active planar dxz,yzd_{xz,yz} bands, and an inter-band proximity effect induces out-of-plane gap nodes in the passive d3z2r2d_{3z^{2}-r^{2}} band. While very good quantitative agreement with various key observations in the SC state and reconciliation with NMR and penetration depth data in the same picture are particularly attractive features of our proposal, clinching evidence would be an experimental confirmation of c-axis nodes in future work.Comment: 4 pages, 2 eps figures, submitted to PRL, text modifie

Scalar Field Cosmologies with Viscous Fluid

We investigate cosmological models with a free scalar field and a viscous fluid. We find exact solutions for a linear and nonlinear viscosity pressure. Both yield singular and bouncing solutions. In the first regime, a de Sitter stage is asymptotically stable, while in the second case we find power-law evolutions for vanishing cosmological constant.Comment: 8 pages, LaTeX.
