    Present status and future scope for fish production in cages and enclosures in India

    The paper highlights the role of intensive fish husbandry system in cages and enclosures in the overall fisheries development of the country. This system of fish culture in widely dispersed aquatic ecosystems in India has yielded stimulating results, though there are some immediate constraints. The pressing problems of cage size, shape and material, diseases and parasites, and location of operational sites have been discussed. Such intensive culture systems have numerous advantages over the traditional pond culture. It 15 conduded that cage and enclosure culture of fifish and shellfish will ultimately carve its niche in the streams, rivers, canals, heels, lakes, reservoirs, estuaries, lagoons, bays and coastal areas of the country

    Observation of a γ\gamma-band based on two-quasiparticle configuration in 70^{70}Ge

    The structure of 70^{70}Ge has been studied through in-beam gamma ray spectroscopy. A new band structure is identified that leads to forking of the ground-state band into two excited bands. Band structures have been investigated using the microscopic triaxial projected shell model approach. The observed forking is demonstrated to result from almost simultaneous band crossing of the two neutron aligned and the \gamma-band built on this two-quasiparticle configuration with the ground-state band.Comment: 9 pages, 13 figures, Accepted for publication as a Regular Article in PRC. in Physical Review C, 24th Feb 201

    Astrophysical S_{17}(0) factor from a measurement of d(7Be,8B)n reaction at E_{c.m.} = 4.5 MeV

    Angular distribution measurements of 2^2H(7^7Be,7^7Be)2^2H and 2^2H(7^7Be,8^8B)nn reactions at Ec.m.E_{c.m.}\sim~4.5 MeV were performed to extract the astrophysical S17(0)S_{17}(0) factor using the asymptotic normalization coefficient (ANC) method. For this purpose a pure, low emittance 7^7Be beam was separated from the primary 7^7Li beam by a recoil mass spectrometer operated in a novel mode. A beam stopper at 0^{\circ} allowed the use of a higher 7^7Be beam intensity. Measurement of the elastic scattering in the entrance channel using kinematic coincidence, facilitated the determination of the optical model parameters needed for the analysis of the transfer data. The present measurement significantly reduces errors in the extracted 7^7Be(p,γ\gamma) cross section using the ANC method. We get S17S_{17}~(0)~=~20.7~±\pm~2.4 eV~b.Comment: 15 pages including 3 eps figures, one figure removed and discussions updated. Version to appear in Physical Review

    Effect of Substrate Temperature on Structural and Optical Properties of Nanocrystalline CdTe Thin Films Deposited by Electron Beam Evaporation

    Nanocrystalline Cadmium Telluride (CdTe) thin films were deposited onto glass substrates using electron beam evaporation technique. The effect of substrate temperature on the structural, morphological and optical properties of CdTe thin films has been investigated. All the CdTe films exhibited zinc blende structure with (111) preferential orientation. The crystallite size of the films increased from 35 nm to 116 nm with the increase of substrate temperature and the band gap of the films decreased from 2.87 eV to 2.05 eV with the increase of the crystallite size.     Effect of Annealing on Structural and Optical Properties of Cu Doped In2O3 Thin Films

    Cu-doped In2O3 thin films were prepared using flash evaporation method at different Cu-doping levels. The effect of annealing was studied on the structure, morphology and optical properties of the thin films. The films exhibited cubic structure and optical transmittance of the films increasing with annealing temperature. The highest optical transmittance of 78 % was observed with band gap of 4.09 eV.     Structural, Optical and Magnetic Properties of (In0.90Sn0.05Cu0.05)(2)O-3 Nanoparticles

    This study examined structural, optical and magnetic properties of ITO (In0.95Sn0.05)(2)O-3 and Cu doped ITO (In0.90Sn0.05Cu0.05)(2)O-3 nanoparticles synthesized by solid state reaction method. The synthesized nanoparticles were subjected to structural, optical and magnetic studies. The structural properties of the nanoparticles were carried out using XRD, Raman, FT-IR characterization techniques. Optical properties of the samples were studies using UV-Vis-NIR spectrophotometer. The magnetic measurements were carried out using vibrating sample magnetometer. The ITO (In0.95Sn0.05)(2)O-3 nanoparticles exhibited room temperature ferromagnetism with clear hysteresis loop. The strength of magnetization decreased in Cu doped ITO (In0.95Sn0.05)(2)O-3. The ITO nanoparticles were also exhibited ferromagnetism at 100 K with a magnetic moment of 0.02 emu/g

    From chiral vibration to static chirality in ^{135}Nd

    Electromagnetic transition probabilities have been measured for the intra- and inter-band transitions in the two sequences in the nucleus ^{135}Nd that were previously identified as a composite chiral pair of rotational bands. The measurements are in good agreement with results of a new combination of TAC and RPA calculations. The chiral character of the bands is affirmed and it is shown that their behavior is associated with a transition from a vibrational into a static chiral regime.Comment: Accepted for publication in the Physical Review Letters.     Isotopic dependence of the giant monopole resonance in the even-A ^{112-124}Sn isotopes and the asymmetry term in nuclear incompressibility

    The strength distributions of the giant monopole resonance (GMR) have been measured in the even-A Sn isotopes (A=112--124) with inelastic scattering of 400-MeV α\alpha particles in the angular range 00^\circ--8.58.5^\circ. We find that the experimentally-observed GMR energies of the Sn isotopes are lower than the values predicted by theoretical calculations that reproduce the GMR energies in 208^{208}Pb and 90^{90}Zr very well. From the GMR data, a value of Kτ=550±100K_{\tau} = -550 \pm 100 MeV is obtained for the asymmetry-term in the nuclear incompressibility.Comment: Submitted to Physical Review Letters. 10 pages; 4 figure
