Asymptotic behaviour of a semilinear elliptic system with a large exponent

Consider the problem \begin{eqnarray*} -\Delta u &=& v^{\frac 2{N-2}},\quad v>0\quad {in}\quad \Omega, -\Delta v &=& u^{p},\:\:\:\quad u>0\quad {in}\quad \Omega, u&=&v\:\:=\:\:0 \quad {on}\quad \partial \Omega, \end{eqnarray*} where Ω\Omega is a bounded convex domain in RN,\R^N, N>2,N>2, with smooth boundary Ω.\partial \Omega. We study the asymptotic behaviour of the least energy solutions of this system as p.p\to \infty. We show that the solution remain bounded for pp large and have one or two peaks away form the boundary. When one peak occurs we characterize its location.Comment: 16 pages, submmited for publicatio

A new critical curve for the Lane-Emden system

We study stable positive radially symmetric solutions for the Lane-Emden system Δu=vp-\Delta u=v^p in RN\R^N, Δv=uq-\Delta v=u^q in RN\R^N, where p,q1p,q\geq 1. We obtain a new critical curve that optimally describes the existence of such solutions.Comment: 13 pages, 1 figur

Five types of blow-up in a semilinear fourth-order reaction-diffusion equation: an analytic-numerical approach

    Five types of blow-up patterns that can occur for the 4th-order semilinear parabolic equation of reaction-diffusion type u_t= -\Delta^2 u + |u|^{p-1} u \quad {in} \quad \ren \times (0,T), p>1, \quad \lim_{t \to T^-}\sup_{x \in \ren} |u(x,t)|= +\iy, are discussed. For the semilinear heat equation ut=Δu+upu_t= \Delta u+ u^p, various blow-up patterns were under scrutiny since 1980s, while the case of higher-order diffusion was studied much less, regardless a wide range of its application.Comment: 41 pages, 27 figure

“Intestinal-Type” Vulvar Adenocarcinoma: A Review of the MITO Rare Tumors Group

Intestinal-type adenocarcinoma (VAIt) represents a sporadic variant of vulvar carcinoma. It appears frequently localized to epithelial glands in the vulvar region, and it probably derives from cloacal remnants persisting in the adult. We performed a systematic review of the limited cases reported in the literature, with the intent to assess the specific peculiarities of this rare neoplasia and to state consistent management recommendations. The principal histological VAIt characteristic is that it resembles mucinous colonic carcinomas. Therefore, immunohistochemical workup, with different tumor markers including CK20, CDX2, and CK7 staining, is needed. To confirm vulvar origin, a thorough diagnostic, and radiological examination is required to rule out other primary malignancies. The gold standard of treatment for VAIt is surgery, with local excision with tumor-free margins. Lymph node staging is an option advised if the tumor size is >2 cm or if lymph node metastases are suspected on imaging. On the other hand, the role of neoadjuvant therapy is still in doubt, but a good response to adjuvant chemotherapy treatments has been described in both advanced and recurrent diseases. Sometimes, VAIt behavior can be unpredictable, with relapses even after many years, so more experiences and longer follow-up periods are needed to elucidate the best therapeutic management and its long-term prognosis

Plants of Zea Mays L. cv. 'Piranão' were treated, 15 and 22 days after seeding, with (2-cloroethyl) trimethylammonium chloride (2000 ppm), gibberellins (100 ppm), beta-naphthoxyacetic acid (100 ppm) and 3-indoleacetic acid (100 ppm). The morphological characteristics and yield were verified. The experiment was carried out under field conditions, in Piracicaba, São Paulo. The effective treatment were obtained with gibberellins in concentration of 100 ppm, which promotes an increase in the plant height. There were no statistical significant differences between treated and untreated plants with respect to the morphology and yield of maize, with the applicatin of CCC, BNOA and IAA. Some characteristics of the cultivar 'Piranão' during the development of the plant and at harvest were also verified. Samples were analyzed for macronutrients, collected at four different stages of growth.
