Polish children in Norway : between national discourses of belonging and everyday experiences of life abroad
This chapter examines dimensions of self-identification among Polish migrant children in Norway. The arguments are situated within childhood studies and take into account the novel framings of children in mobility/migration scholarship, as well as articularities of Polish context Stemming from the TRANSFAM research project (2013-2016), this work “gives children a voice” through a qualitative research methodology. The study illuminates those national, transnational and global elements that are paramount for daily life family practices and featured in children’s narratives. The paper focuses on the importance of socializing agents (family, peer groups, culture) for the constructions of belonging. It concludes with arguments for acknowledging the contemporary hybrid and relational identities of children who grow up transnationally between Norway and Poland
Sframe: An Efficient System for Detailed DC Simulation of Bipolar Analog Integrated Circuits Using Continuation Methods
In this paper we describe an experimental system called sframe which is being incorporated into the design for manufacturability initiative at the Reading Works of AT&T Bell Laboratories. Our system is able to perform detailed and accurate DC analyses of integrated circuits containing several hundred transistors to be fabricated in a relatively complex junction isolated complementary technology
Wireless full-duplex communications based on network coding
We consider practical system design for a wireless video conference application, where two users communicate over an intermediate network node, i.e., a base station. The key idea is to exploit the broadcast nature of wireless radio links using network coding. With network coding, the number of necessary downlink transmissions from the intermediate node to the two users, is reduced, and thus the throughput is increased. We develop two systems, based on amplify-and-forward and decode-and-forward technique, respectively, and compare them to traditional video communication systems that do not exploit network coding. Our practical designs exploit the latest in 3-D wavelet-based scalable video coding and channel coding. Simulation results confirm the advantages of our proposed video communication schemes over conventional ones
