Record catch of rock perch, Epinephelus fasciatus by bottom trawling off Ratnagiri
A productive fishing ground for rock perch (Epinephelus fasciatus) was located off Ratnagiri between 17 degree 00' to 17 degree 10' N latitude and 72 degree 20' to 72 degree 30' E longitude, around a depth of 96m during November, 1983. An average catch of 2 ton/hr. was recorded. Length frequency studies of E. fasciatus indicate the probability of a nursery ground consisting of three brood stocks. Hydrographic studies of the ground revealed that the bottom water was oxygen deficient below a strong thermocline extending from 15-75 m depth with the recorded bottom temperature amounting to 20.5 degree C
Calibrations of hydro-acoustic instruments onboard FORV Sagar Sampada
Calibration is carried out to keep up the precision of the instruments by
determining their calibre. CaUbration of hydro acoustic equipments onboard FORV
Sagar Sampada was carried out periodically and the performance records were
maintained. Deviation and the deficiencies were noted down for applying the correction
while interpreting the output of the instruments

Since inception in 1984, the Fisheries and Oceanographic Research Vessel
Sagar Sampada, with sophisticated modern facilities onboard, has undertaken more
than 140 cruises all over the Indian Ocean primarily in our Exclusive Economic Zone
for fishery and oceanographic survey. Scientists from many institutions have made
use of this facility to explore the resource potential in our sea and to understand its
correlation with the environmental parameters. These survey and exploration efforts
are continuing.
This volume contains many papers which are the outcome of research work carried
out onboard 'Sagar Sampada' during last five years (1989-1993) and presented in a
Workshop to evaluate the scientific work. About 60 papers, included in this volume,
bring out the results pertaining to environmental assessment, hydrology, productivity
estimates, fishery resources availability, fishing technology, pollution monitoring etc.
These relate mainly to the Arabian Sea, Bay of Bengal and Lakshadweep, Andaman
and Nicobar Islands groups in the EEZ of India. These efforts along with other
mission-oriented cruises have yielded valuable information on the fishery resources
and their distribution in space and time
Comprehensive Overview on Antibody Drug Conjugates- A Promising Approach in Cancer Therapy
Chemotherapy remains a cornerstone in cancer treatment, utilizing cytotoxic agents to kill or inhibit the growth of cancer cells. However, its efficacy is often limited by systemic toxicity and the development of resistance. To address these challenges, Antibody-Drug Conjugates (ADCs) have emerged as a promising therapeutic strategy, combining the specificity of monoclonal antibodies with the potency of cytotoxic drugs. ADCs are designed to deliver targeted chemotherapy directly to cancer cells, reducing off-target effects and improving therapeutic outcomes. The structure of ADCs consists of a monoclonal antibody, a cytotoxic agent (payload), and a chemical linker. The antibody specifically binds to tumor-associated antigens, facilitating internalization of the drug, which is then released within the cancer cell to induce cell death. This selective targeting minimizes the damage to normal, healthy tissues. Since the first ADC approval in 2000, the field has rapidly advanced, with multiple ADCs receiving FDA approval for both hematological and solid tumors. Despite their potential, ADC development faces challenges such as linker stability, payload delivery, and tumor penetration. Recent advancements have led to the development of second and third-generation ADCs, which feature improved stability, efficacy, and safety profiles. The future of ADCs lies in optimizing their design, including selecting appropriate antigens, refining drug-to-antibody ratios, and enhancing intracellular delivery mechanisms. Overall, ADCs represent a transformative approach to cancer therapy, offering a more targeted, effective, and safer treatment option for cancer patients.

Carbon Nanotubes Generated from Polyphenyl Acetylene
The carbonization of polyphenyl acetylene in alumina matrix yields uniform, cylindrical, monodisperse carbon nanotubes with outer diameter almost equal to pore diameter of the alumina membrane used. The electrochemical characteristics reveal that the charge transfer at the composite electrode based on carbon
nanotube might be higher compared to that of planar graphite, glassy carbon and composite electrode based
on commercially available Vulcan XC72R carbon. Pt-Ru nanoparticles are highly dispersed inside the tube
with an average particle size of 1.7 nm as revealed by HR-TEM images

Liquid crystalline structuring in dilute suspensions of high aspect ratio clay nanosheets
Aqueous liquid suspensions of high aspect ratio 2D clay nanosheets were investigated using small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS). The high aspect ratio of synthetic fluorohectorite clays allows for investigation of liquid crystalline orientational order for relatively large nanosheet spacings, in the range which can produce structural coloration, thus providing two handles for determining the nanosheet spacings: SAXS and visible color. Various clay concentrations were investigated, and good agreement with previous work on structural coloration from such suspensions was obtained. Particular attention is given to the confinement caused by the container geometry, where both cylindrical and flat confinements were investigated. In both cases, the SAXS data suggest coherent regions that have a nematic inter-orientational distribution that surprisingly is linked to the container geometry, which apparently determines the efficiency of packing of the suspension. For both geometries, the analysis suggests that these coherent regions have a 1D lamellar periodic intra-structure with uniform nanosheet spacing determined by the clay concentration and a typical correlation length in the range of 200 to 500 nm.publishedVersio
