Rare case report of metastatic cervical carcinoma
Although carcinoma of cervix is among the most common malignancies in women, cutaneous metastasis is very unusual. Here we report a case of a parous woman diagnosed with adenocarcinoma of cervix who did not undergo chemotherapy in spite of being advised after initial surgery, presenting with cutaneous metastasis at the operative scar site 2 years later

389-393New developments in biotechnology are focused on new products or the introduction of new processes as a substitute to the conventional way, or improvements in performance of existing biotechnological applications. The examples of application of non-conventional media are organic solvents, supercritical solvents or aqueous two phases systems. Steroid biotransformation is a multi million-dollar industry and the pharmaceutical uses of steroids are numerous. Steroids like cholesterol are completely soluble in some organic solvents like benzene, toluene and butanol. Biphasic systems wherein the cells are present in the aqueous phase and steroids dissolved in the organic phase is considered an ideal set-up. The major problem here is the fact that most bacteria and their enzymes are inactivated or destroyed in the presence of these toxic organic solvents, also it is necessary that the microbes contain relevant enzymes in sufficient amounts and in high specific activities, even in the presence of the generally destructive apolar phase. This can be very well accomplished by using organic solvent tolerant bacteria having desired enzyme activities. One such application is being discussed
A study of rotavirus infection in acute diarrhoea in children less than 5 years of age
: Diarrhoeal diseases account for an estimated 1.5 million deaths globally every year making it the second leading cause of childhood mortality. In India 1 out of every 250 children die of rotavirus diarrhea each year.: To find out the incidence of rotavirus infection in acute diarrhoeal cases in children under 5 years of age.: A prospective study was conducted on 100 non repetetive stool samples of Children under 5 years of age, presenting with acute diarrhea and hospitalized in the pediatric ward, during December 2015 to November 2016. Stool samples were processed according to premier rotaclone enzyme immunoassay protocol for the detection of rotavirus antigen, adhering to standard laboratory precautions.: The incidence of acute diarrhoeal diseases was 5.86% in our setting. was detected in 29% cases by ELISA method.The antigen detection by EIA is a reliable test, as it is quantitative and also has high sensitivity and specificity. Hence, can be routinely employed to prevent major morbidity and mortality among children, especially less than 5 years of age.</jats:p
Identification of a novel target of D/V signaling in Drosophila wing disc: Wg-independent function of the organizer
Growth and patterning during Drosophila wing development are mediated by signaling from its dorso-ventral (D/V) organizer. Wingless is expressed in the D/V boundary and functions as a morphogen to activate target genes at a distance. Wingless pathway and thereby D/V signaling is negatively regulated by the homeotic gene Ultrabithorax (Ubx) to mediate haltere development. In an enhancer-trap screen to identify genes that show differential expression between wing and haltere discs, we identified CG32062, which codes for a RNA-binding protein. In wing discs, CG32062 is expressed only in non-D/V cells. CG32062 expression in non-D/V cells is dependent on Notch-mediated signaling from the D/V boundary. However, CG32062 expression is independent of Wingless function, thus providing evidence for a second long-range signaling mechanism of the D/V organizer. In haltere discs, CG32062 is negatively regulated by Ubx. The non-cell autonomous nature of Ubx-mediated repression of CG32062 expression suggests that the novel component of D/V signaling is also negatively regulated during haltere specification
