Modeling highly pathogenic avian influenza transmission in wild birds and poultry in West Bengal, India.
Wild birds are suspected to have played a role in highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) H5N1 outbreaks in West Bengal. Cluster analysis showed that H5N1 was introduced in West Bengal at least 3 times between 2008 and 2010. We simulated the introduction of H5N1 by wild birds and their contact with poultry through a stochastic continuous-time mathematical model. Results showed that reducing contact between wild birds and domestic poultry, and increasing the culling rate of infected domestic poultry communities will reduce the probability of outbreaks. Poultry communities that shared habitat with wild birds or those indistricts with previous outbreaks were more likely to suffer an outbreak. These results indicate that wild birds can introduce HPAI to domestic poultry and that limiting their contact at shared habitats together with swift culling of infected domestic poultry can greatly reduce the likelihood of HPAI outbreaks
Some Observations on Non-covariant Gauges and the epsilon-term
We consider the Lagrangian path-integrals in Minkowski space for gauges with
a residual gauge-invariance. From rather elementary considerations, we
demonstrate the necessity of inclusion of an epsilon-term (even) in the formal
treatments, without which one may reach incorrect conclusions. We show,
further, that the epsilon-term can contribute to the BRST WT-identities in a
nontrivial way (even as epsilon-->0). We also show that the (expectation value
of the) correct epsilon-term satisfies an algebraic condition. We show by
considering (a commonly used) example of a simple local quadratic epsilon
-term, that they lead to additional constraints on Green's function that are
not normally taken into account in the BRST formalism that ignores the
epsilon-term, and that they are characteristic of the way the singularities in
propagators are handled. We argue that for a subclass of these gauges, the
Minkowski path-integral could not be obtained by a Wick rotation from a
Euclidean path-integral.Comment: 12 pages, LaTeX2
AGN driven perturbations in the intra-cluster medium of cool core cluster ZwCl 2701
We present the results obtained from a total of 123 ks X-ray (Chandra) and 8
hrs of 1.4 GHz radio (Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope - GMRT) observations of
the cool core cluster ZwCl 2701 (z = 0.214). These observations of ZwCl 2701
showed the presence of an extensive pair of ellipsoidal cavities along the East
and West directions within the central region < 20 kpc. Detection of bright
rims around the cavities suggested that the radio lobes displaced X-ray
emitting hot gas forming shell-like structures. The total cavity power
(mechanical power) that directly heated the surrounding gas and cooling
luminosity of the cluster were estimated to be ~2.27 x 10^{45} erg\s and 3.5 x
10^{44} erg\s, respectively. Comparable values of cavity power and cooling
luminosity of ZwCL 2701 suggested that the mechanical power of the AGN outburst
is large enough to balance the radiative cooling in the system. The star
formation rate derived from the H_alpha luminosity was found to be ~0.60 M_sun
yr^{-1} which is about three orders of magnitude lower than the cooling rate of
~196 M_sun yr^{-1}. Detection of the floor in entropy profile of ZwCl 2701
suggested the presence of an alternative heating mechanism at the centre of the
cluster. Lower value of the ratio (~10^{-2}) between black hole mass accretion
rate and Eddington mass accretion rate suggested that launching of jet from the
super massive black hole is efficient in ZwCl 2701. However, higher value of
ratio (~10^{3}) between black hole mass accretion rate and Bondi accretion rate
indicated that the accretion rate required to create cavities is well above the
Bondi accretion rate.Comment: 13 Pages, 11 Figures, 2 Tables, Accepted for publication in MNRA
Absence of Nonlocal Counter-terms in the Gauge Boson Propagator in Axial -type Gauges
We study the two-point function for the gauge boson in the axial-type gauges.
We use the exact treatment of the axial gauges recently proposed that is
intrinsically compatible with the Lorentz type gauges in the path-integral
formulation and has been arrived at from this connection and which is a
``one-vector'' treatment. We find that in this treatment, we can evaluate the
two-point functions without imposing any additional interpretation on the axial
gauge 1/(n.q)^p-type poles. The calculations are as easy as the other
treatments based on other known prescriptions. Unlike the
``uniform-prescription'' /L-M prescription, we note, here, the absence of any
non-local divergences in the 2-point proper vertex. We correlate our
calculation with that for the Cauchy Principal Value prescription and find from
this comparison that the 2-point proper vertex differs from the CPV calculation
only by finite terms. For simplicity of treatment, the divergences have been
calculated here with n^2>0 and these have a smooth light cone limit.Comment: 17 pages; 3 figures drawn using feyn.st
Detection of a pair of prominent X-ray cavities in Abell 3847
We present results obtained from a detailed analysis of a deep Chandra
observation of the bright FR II radio galaxy 3C~444 in Abell~3847 cluster. A
pair of huge X-ray cavities are detected along North and South directions from
the centre of 3C 444. X-ray and radio images of the cluster reveal peculiar
positioning of the cavities and radio bubbles. The radio lobes and X-ray
cavities are apparently not spatially coincident and exhibit offsets by ~61 kpc
and ~77 kpc from each other along the North and South directions, respectively.
Radial temperature and density profiles reveal the presence of a cool core in
the cluster. Imaging and spectral studies showed the removal of substantial
amount of matter from the core of the cluster by the radio jets. A detailed
analysis of the temperature and density profiles showed the presence of a
rarely detected elliptical shock in the cluster. Detection of inflating
cavities at an average distance of ~55 kpc from the centre implies that the
central engine feeds a remarkable amount of radio power (~6.3 X 10^44 erg/s)
into the intra-cluster medium over ~10^8 yr, the estimated age of cavity. The
cooling luminosity of the cluster was estimated to be ~8.30 X 10^43 erg/s,
which confirms that the AGN power is sufficient to quench the cooling. Ratios
of mass accretion rate to Eddington and Bondi rates were estimated to be ~0.08
and 3.5 X 10^4, respectively. This indicates that the black hole in the core of
the cluster accretes matter through chaotic cold accretion.Comment: 13 Pages, 10 Figures, 3 Tables. Accepted for publication in MNRA
Relating Green's Functions in Axial and Lorentz Gauges using Finite Field-Dependent BRS Transformations
We use finite field-dependent BRS transformations (FFBRS) to connect the
Green functions in a set of two otherwise unrelated gauge choices. We choose
the Lorentz and the axial gauges as examples. We show how the Green functions
in axial gauge can be written as a series in terms of those in Lorentz gauges.
Our method also applies to operator Green's functions. We show that this
process involves another set of related FFBRS transfomations that is derivable
from infinitesimal FBRS. We suggest possible applications.Comment: 20 pages, LaTex, Section 4 expanded, typos corrected; last 2
