Studying Group Decision Making in Affinity Diagramming

    Get PDF
Affinity diagramming is a commonly used contextual design practice for which many tools have been developed. However, experts and novices alike eschew tool use, instead using traditional paper and whiteboard methods. This paper presents observations of traditional affinity diagramming sessions, focusing on three areas of consideration—shared awareness, cognitive offloading, and understanding, organizing and searching—that are important for collaborative tools. Specific design requirements for each of these three areas are described

Models of wave-function collapse, underlying theories, and experimental tests

We describe the state of the art in preparing, manipulating and detecting coherent molecular matter. We focus on experimental methods for handling the quantum motion of compound systems from diatomic molecules to clusters or biomolecules.Molecular quantum optics offers many challenges and innovative prospects: already the combination of two atoms into one molecule takes several well-established methods from atomic physics, such as for instance laser cooling, to their limits. The enormous internal complexity that arises when hundreds or thousands of atoms are bound in a single organic molecule, cluster or nanocrystal provides a richness that can only be tackled by combining methods from atomic physics, chemistry, cluster physics, nanotechnology and the life sciences. We review various molecular beam sources and their suitability for matter-wave experiments. We discuss numerous molecular detection schemes and give an overview over diffraction and interference experiments that have already been performed with molecules or clusters.Applications of de Broglie studies with composite systems range from fundamental tests of physics up to quantum-enhanced metrology in physical chemistry, biophysics and the surface sciences.Nanoparticle quantum optics is a growing field, which will intrigue researchers still for many years to come. This review can, therefore, only be a snapshot of a very dynamical process

    Off-Shoring And Outsourcing

    Get PDF
Because of a dramatic decrease in transportation and telecommunication costs, the digital revolution, and the forces of globalization, off-shoring has accelerated in the past few years.  While there is little doubt that off-shoring has brought hardship to thousands of workers and communities, there is also little doubt that it has benefited many worker and communities.  Today, off-shoring continues to generate considerable debate on the long-run impact. Also, there is considerable misunderstanding about this phenomenon.  In this paper, the authors make a distinction among the terms outsourcing, offshore outsourcing, and off-shoring.  Off-shoring has been facilitated by a deconstruction of the value chain, allowing firms to evaluate all activities as potential candidates for being performed outside the firm.  Reasons for the acceleration of off-shoring are outlined.  An explanation of why off-shoring is not a villain for the developed economies is also provided

Effect of Different Levels of N and P on Ratoon Crop of Banana cv. Grand Naine

An investigation was carried out to study the effect of various levels of N and P on growth and yield of banana cv. Grand Naine in first ratoon crop at Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana. The treatments consisted of six levels of nitrogen at 150, 200 (in 4 and 5 splits), 250 (in 4 and 5 splits) and 300 g (in 5 splits) per plant as urea, phosphorus at 60 and 90 g per plant as single super phosphate. Application of N and P at the rate of 200 g N in 5 splits + 60 g P2O5 per plant to ratoon crop of banana cv. Grand Naine proved to be the best among all treatment combinations. This also resulted in maximum plant growth, early shooting and fruit maturity. In addition, the fruit yield per plant (18.9 kg) was maximum with the above mentioned treatment. Finger length increased with increase in dose of N from 150 g to 200 g per plant

These lectures deal with calorimeters and rely heavily on previous reviews of calorimetry [1-6]. The emphasis is placed on their use at the future Large Hadron Collider and examples from ATLAS [7] and CMS [8] are extensively used

Role Of Institutions In Growth Of Countries

    Get PDF
The purpose of this paper was to look at the role of institutions in growth of countries. We compared income and quality of institutions’ data among 87 developing countries to see if institutions that promote economic freedom and investment lead to higher economic growth. In addition, we wanted to look at the role of institutions in economic growth at the local level in a country. For this analysis, we compared income and quality of institutions’ data for different states in India. In both cases, we found that growth is significantly affected by the quality of institutions
