    Constraints on Dark Photon from Neutrino-Electron Scattering Experiments

    A possible manifestation of an additional light gauge boson AA^\prime, named as Dark Photon, associated with a group U(1)BLU(1)_{\rm B-L} is studied in neutrino electron scattering experiments. The exclusion plot on the coupling constant gBLg_{\rm B-L} and the dark photon mass MAM_{A^\prime} is obtained. It is shown that contributions of interference term between the dark photon and the Standard Model are important. The interference effects are studied and compared with for data sets from TEXONO, GEMMA, BOREXINO, LSND as well as CHARM II experiments.     CP Asymmetry in Charged Higgs Decays to Chargino-Neutralino

    We analyze the charge-parity (CP) asymmetry in the charged Higgs boson decays to chargino-neutralino pairs, H^- -> chargino_i + neutralino_j. We show first that these modes have a large branching ratio for m_H^- > 600 GeV. We use Cutkosky rules to obtain the analytical formulas needed for the evaluation of the asymmetry under consideration. We then calculate the CP asymmetry in chargino-neutralino decays by including supersymmetric mass bounds, as well as constraints from b -> s gamma, (g-2)_mu, Delta\rho and electric dipole moments. Finally, we discuss observability of the asymmetry at the LHC by calculating the number of required charged Higgs events to observe the asymmetry for each decay channel. We show that the inclusion of constraints considerably reduces the projected CP asymmetry, and that the optimal channel for observing the asymmetry is H^- -> chargino_1 + neutralino_2.Comment: 23 pages, 8 figures, one tabl

    Multi-domain active sound control and noise shielding

    This paper describes an active sound control methodology based on difference potentials. The main feature of this methodology is its ability to automatically preserve “wanted” sound within a domain while canceling “unwanted” noise from outside the domain. This method of preservation of the wanted sounds by active shielding control is demonstrated with various broadband and realistic sound sources such as human voice and music in multiple domains in a one-dimensional enclosure. Unlike many other conventional active control methods, the proposed approach does not require the explicit characterization of the wanted sound to be preserved. The controls are designed based on the measurements of the total field on the boundaries of the shielded domain only, which is allowed to be multiply connected. The method is tested in a variety of experimental cases. The typical attenuation of the unwanted noise is found to be about 20 dB over a large area of the shielded domain and the original wanted sound field is preserved with errors of around 1 dB and below through a broad frequency range up to 1 kHz. © 2011 Acoustical Society of Americ

    CP Asymmetry in Charged Higgs Decays in MSSM

    We discuss and compare the charge-parity (CP) asymmetry in the charged Higgs boson decays H -> \bar{u}_i d_j for the second and third generation quarks in the minimal supersymmetric standard model. As part of the analysis, we derive some general analytical formulas for the imaginary parts of two-point and three-point scalar one-loop integrals and use them for calculating vectorial and tensorial type integrals needed for the problem under consideration. We find that, even though each decay mode has a potential to yield a CP asymmetry larger than 10%, further analysis based on the number of required charged Higgs events at colliders favors the \bar{t}b, \bar{c}b, and \bar{c}s channels, whose asymmetry could reach 10-15% in certain parts of the parameter space.Comment: 25 pages, 9 figures.     Numerical Investigation of Shallow Depth Sloshing Absorbers for Structural Control

    A liquid sloshing absorber consists of a container, partially filled with liquid. The absorber is attached to the structure to be controlled, and relies on the structure’s motion to excite the liquid. Consequently, a sloshing wave is produced at the liquid free surface within the absorber, possessing energy dissipative qualities. The behaviour of liquid sloshing absorbers has been well documented, although their use in structural control applications has attracted considerably less attention. Generally it is accepted that sloshing absorbers with lower liquid levels are more effective energy dissipaters than those with higher levels, although there has not yet been a study to reveal an ‘optimum’ design mechanism. The main limitation of numerically modelling such circumstances is the inherent complexity in the free surface behaviour, predictions of which are limited when using grid-based modelling techniques. Considering such limitations, Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) is used in this study to model a 2-dimensional rectangular liquid sloshing absorber. SPH is a Lagrangian method of solving the equations of fluid flow that is suitable to model liquid sloshing due its grid-free nature, and inherent ability to model complex free surface behaviour. The primary objective of this paper is to numerically demonstrate the effect of tuning a container's width, to complement previous work [6] on the effect of liquid depth.     Interval-Valued Intuitionistic Fuzzy Topsis-Based Model For Troubleshooting Marine Diesel Engine Auxiliary System

    In this paper, we present an interval-valued Intuitionistic Fuzzy TOPSIS model, which is based on an improved score function for detecting failure in a marine diesel engine auxiliary system, using groups of experts’ opinions to detect the root cause of failure in the engine system and the area most affected by failures in the diesel engine. The improved score function has been used for the computation of the separation measures from the intuitionistic fuzzy positive ideal solution (IFPIS) and intuitionistic fuzzy negative ideal solution (IFNIS) of alternatives while the criteria weight have been determined using an intuitionistic fuzzy entropy. The study is aimed at providing an alternative method for the identification and analysis of failure modes in engine systems. The results from the study show that although detection of failures in Engines is quite difficult to identify due to the dependency of the engine systems on each other, however using intuitionistic fuzzy multi-criteria decision-making method the faults/failure can easily be diagnosed
