    Note on Dirac--K\"ahler massless fields

We obtain the canonical and symmetrical Belinfante energy-momentum tensors of Dirac--K\"{a}hler's fields. It is shown that the traces of the energy-momentum tensors are not equal to zero. We find the canonical and Belinfante dilatation currents which are not conserved, but a new conserved dilatation current is obtained. It is pointed out that the conformal symmetry is broken. The canonical quantization is performed and the propagator of the massless fields in the first-order formalism is found.Comment: 16 pages, minor corrections in the text, published versio

Entropic regularization approach for mathematical programs with equilibrium constraints

    Get PDF
A new smoothing approach based on entropic perturbation is proposed for solving mathematical programs with equilibrium constraints. Some of the desirable properties of the smoothing function are shown. The viability of the proposed approach is supported by a computational study on a set of well-known test problems.Entropic regularization;Smoothing approach;Mathematical programs with equilibrium constraints

Alfven node-free vibrations of white dwarf in the model of solid star with toroidal magnetic field

In the context of the white dwarf asteroseismology, we investigate vibrational properties of a non-convective solid star with an axisymmetric purely toroidal intrinsic magnetic field of two different shapes. Focus is laid on regime of node-free global Lorentz-force-driven vibrations about symmetry axis at which material displacements have one and the same form as those for nodeless spheroidal and torsional vibrations restored by Hooke's force of elastic shear stresses. Particular attention is given to the even-parity poloidal Alfven modes whose frequency spectra are computed in analytic form showing how the purely toroidal magnetic fields completely buried beneath the star surface can manifest itself in seismic vibrations of non-magnetic white dwarfs. The obtained spectral formulae are discussed in juxtaposition with those for Alfven modes in the solid star model with the poloidal, homogeneous internal and dipolar external, magnetic field whose inferences are relevant to Alfven vibrations in magnetic white dwarfs.Comment: Accepted for publication in Astrophysics & Space Scienc

On the finite termination of an entropy function based smoothing Newton method for vertical linear complementarity problems

    Get PDF
By using a smooth entropy function to approximate the non-smooth max-type function, a vertical linear complementarity problem (VLCP) can be treated as a family of parameterized smooth equations. A Newton-type method with a testing procedure is proposed to solve such a system. We show that the proposed algorithm finds an exact solution of VLCP in a finite number of iterations, under some conditions milder than those assumed in literature. Some computational results are included to illustrate the potential of this approach.Newton method;Finite termination;Entropy function;Smoothing approximation;Vertical linear complementarity problems

Recursive Approximation of the High Dimensional max Function

    Get PDF
An alternative smoothing method for the high dimensional max functionhas been studied. The proposed method is a recursive extension of thetwo dimensional smoothing functions. In order to analyze the proposedmethod, a theoretical framework related to smoothing methods has beendiscussed. Moreover, we support our discussion by considering someapplication areas. This is followed by a comparison with analternative well-known smoothing method.n dimensional max function;recursive approximation;smoothing methods;vertical linear complementarity (VLCP)

An integrated approach to single-leg airline revenue management: The role of robust optimization

    Get PDF
In this paper we introduce robust versions of the classical staticand dynamic single leg seat allocation models as analyzed byWollmer, and Lautenbacher and Stidham, respectively. These robustmodels take into account the inaccurate estimates of the underlyingprobability distributions. As observed by simulation experiments itturns out that for these robust versions the variability compared totheir classical counter parts is considerably reduced with anegligible decrease of average revenue.dynamic models;robust optimization;static models;airline revenue management;single-leg problems

On Possible Light-Torsion Mixing in Background Magnetic Field

The interaction of the light with propagating axial torsion fields in the presence of an external magnetic field has been investigated. Axial torsion fields appearing in higher derivative quantum gravity possess two states, with spin one and zero, with different masses. The torsion field with spin-0 state is a ghost that can be removed if its mass is infinite. We investigate the possibility when the light mixes with the torsion fields resulting in the effect of vacuum birefringence and dichroism. The expressions for ellipticity and the rotation of light polarization axis depending on the coupling constant and the external magnetic field have been obtained.Comment: 12 pages, title changed, shortened journal version, accepted in Eur.Phys.J.
