    Hybrid Qubit gates in circuit QED: A scheme for quantum bit encoding and information processing

    Solid state superconducting devices coupled to coplanar transmission lines offer an exquisite architecture for quantum optical phenomena probing as well as for quantum computation implementation, being the object of intense theoretical and experimental investigation lately. In appropriate conditions the transmission line radiation modes can get strongly coupled to a superconducting device with only two levels -for that reason called artificial atom or qubit. Employing this system we propose a hybrid two-quantum bit gate encoding involving quantum electromagnetic field qubit states prepared in a coplanar transmission line capacitively coupled to a single charge qubit. Since dissipative effects are more drastic in the solid state qubit than in the field one, it can be employed for storage of information, whose efficiency against the action of an ohmic bath show that this encoding can be readily implemented with present day technology. We extend the investigation to generate entanglement between several solid state qubits and the field qubit through the action of external classical magnetic pulses.Comment: 9 pages, 10 figure

    Impact de l'hyper-débit et des maladies cardiaques sur l'incidence d'événements cardiovasculaires aigus chez les dialysés

    Introduction : La prévalence de l'insuffisance rénale terminale est en pleine expansion, cela implique un grand nombre de patients en dialyse et donc bénéficiant d'un accès vasculaire. Les maladies cardiovasculaires participent grandement à la morbidité et mortalité des patients en insuffisance rénale terminale et en dialyse. Des changements hémodynamiques importants accompagnent la création d'une fistule artério-veineuse. L'hyper-débit, à savoir un débit fistulaire > 2'000 ml/min, pourrait, pour certains auteurs, représenter un risque supplémentaire pour le développement de complications cardiaques aiguës. Objectif : Investiguer l'influence de l'hyper-débit et des maladies cardiaques existant avant la confection de la fistule artério-veineuse sur la survenue d'événements cardiovasculaires aigus. Méthode : Étude rétrospective sur les dossiers de 23 patients des services de chirurgie vasculaire du CHUV et de l'hôpital de Sion qui ont bénéficié de la création d'une fistule artério-veineuse pour la dialyse entre 2006 et 2013. Les patients ayant un débit fistulaire > 1'800 ml/min ont été inclus dans l'étude. Les informations concernant la maladie rénale et la fistule ont été recueillies dans les dossiers informatiques des patients. Les facteurs de risque cardiovasculaires classiques et les maladies cardiaques présentes avant la confection de la fistule, les mesures échocardiographiques avant et après la confection de l'accès vasculaire ainsi qu'après la dernière révision de celui-ci et enfin, les événements cardiovasculaires aigus survenant entre la confection et la révision de la fistule ont été analysés. Les prévalences et incidences de ces caractéristiques et événements ont pu être extraites pour ce collectif de patients. Résultats : Les facteurs de risque cardiovasculaires et les maladies cardiaques les plus prévalentes dans cette population avant la confection de la fistule artério-veineuse sont l'hypertension artérielle (91.3%), l'hypercholestérolémie (34.8%), le diabète (17.4%), la cardiopathie hypertrophie (34.8%), la cardiopathie ischémique (21.7%). La moyenne globale des mesures de la masse ventriculaire gauche de tous les individus était de 119,4 g/m2 avant la confection de la fistule, 141,9 g/m2 après la confection et à 131.9 g/m2 après la dernière révision de la fistule. La proportion des individus présentant une hypertrophie ventriculaire gauche a varié de 62.5% avant la confection de la fistule à 66.7% après la confection de celle-ci, puis a diminuée à 50% après la dernière révision. Les événements cardiovasculaires aigus ont touché 39% des patients avec une plus grande incidence pour l'insuffisance cardiaque aiguë (21.7%) suivie du syndrome coronarien aigu (13%). Une corrélation entre la présence de maladies cardiaques préexistantes et la survenue d'un événement cardiaque aigu a été observée avec un odds ration de 4.66 (23 observations, intervalle de confiance de 95% compris entre 0.702 et 31.036). Conclusion : Une relation importante entre les maladies cardiovasculaires préexistantes et les événements cardiovasculaires aigus a été mise en évidence dans ce groupe porteur d'une fistule à haut débit. L'hyper-débit pourrait contribuer à une amplification des phénomènes d'agression cardiovasculaire bien connus des états urémiques chroniques et de la dialyse. Un débit élevé, > 2'000 ml/min, devrait donc être considéré comme un facteur de risque cardiovasculaire (FRCV) très important. Des dépistages de maladies cardiovasculaires à l'aide de l'imagerie et de l'examen clinique avant la confection de la fistule devraient être effectués de manière systématique ainsi qu'un suivi régulier du débit fistulaire afin de catégoriser les patients selon le risque d'événements cardiovasculaires. Cette procédure permettrait d'adapter le suivi et la prise en charge des patients

    O estudo dos solos e ambientes que ocorrem na paisagem nordestina tem assumido indiscutível importância nestas últimas décadas. O acentuado progresso da ciência trouxe novos e fundamentais conhecimentos que permitiram, em poucos anos, detalhar e aprofundar o estudo científico da pedologia a partir da integração de informações sobre o meio ambiente. Atualmente, o grande desafio é equacionar a atividade produtiva com a geração de renda e o desenvolvimento sustentável, compatibilizando interesses ambientais, econômicos e sociais. Para isso, o conhecimento dos recursos naturais é fundamental para qualquer etapa do planejamento e do desenvolvimento sustentável, já que proporciona informações referenciais que ajudam na exploração racional destes recursos, principalmente do solo e da água. O presente texto aborda a situação atual das terras ribeirinhas nos municípios de Petrolina, Lagoa Grande e Santa Maria da Boa Vista, no Estado de Pernambuco, decorrente do uso agrícola e outros impactos antrópicos, visando fornecer subsídios para projetos estruturantes de recomposição da mata ciliar do Rio São Francisco nos referidos municípios.     Gauss-Bonnet Black Holes and Heavy Fermion Metals

    We consider charged black holes in Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet Gravity with Lifshitz boundary conditions. We find that this class of models can reproduce the anomalous specific heat of condensed matter systems exhibiting non-Fermi-liquid behaviour at low temperatures. We find that the temperature dependence of the Sommerfeld ratio is sensitive to the choice of Gauss-Bonnet coupling parameter for a given value of the Lifshitz scaling parameter.     Análise sensorial e microbiológica da carne ovina submetida a diferentes formas de conservação no pós-abate.

    Foram utilizados seis cordeiros machos da raça Santa Inês, castrados, com idade média de quatro meses, que foram abatidos com peso entre 30-35 kg com o objetivo de avaliar o e feito de três tipos de acondicionamento da carne ovina (natural, resfriada e congelada) na qualidade sensorial e microbiológica da carne. Para a análise sensorial foi separado e preparado o músculo Longissimus dorsi para um painel de provadores que avaliaram a carne quanto ao aroma, sabor, maciez, suculência, mastigabilidade e aparência geral. O mesmo músculo foi utilizado para a análise microbiológica onde se determinaram coliformes totais e fecais, bolores e leveduras. A carne in natura foi mais macia e de melhor mastigabilidade (p<0,05) em relação à resfriada e congelada. Observou-se também nas carcaças não resfriadas maior incidência de bolores e leveduras e presença de coliformes fecais. Apesar da carne in natura ter apresentado maior maciez, o crescimento microbiano foi maior neste tipo de conservação pós abate, o que pode comprometer a saúde humana

    Electronic Liquid Crystal Phases of a Doped Mott Insulator

    The character of the ground state of an antiferromagnetic insulator is fundamentally altered upon addition of even a small amount of charge. The added charges agglomerate along domain walls at which the spin correlations, which may or may not remain long-ranged, suffer a π\pi phase shift. In two dimensions, these domain walls are ``stripes'' which are either insulating, or conducting, i.e. metallic rivers with their own low energy degrees of freedom. However, quasi one-dimensional metals typically undergo a transition to an insulating ordered charge density wave (CDW) state at low temperatures. Here it is shown that such a transition is eliminated if the zero-point energy of transverse stripe fluctuations is sufficiently large in comparison to the CDW coupling between stripes. As a consequence, there exist novel, liquid-crystalline low-temperature phases -- an electron smectic, with crystalline order in one direction, but liquid-like correlations in the other, and an electron nematic with orientational order but no long-range positional order. These phases, which constitute new states of matter, can be either high temperature supeconductors or two-dimensional anisotropic ``metallic'' non-Fermi liquids.     Structural and functional analysis of four non-coding Y RNAs from Chinese hamster cells: identification, molecular dynamics simulations and DNA replication initiation assays

    Abstract Background The genes coding for Y RNAs are evolutionarily conserved in vertebrates. These non-coding RNAs are essential for the initiation of chromosomal DNA replication in vertebrate cells. However thus far, no information is available about Y RNAs in Chinese hamster cells, which have already been used to detect replication origins and alternative DNA structures around these sites. Here, we report the gene sequences and predicted structural characteristics of the Chinese hamster Y RNAs, and analyze their ability to support the initiation of chromosomal DNA replication in vitro. Results We identified DNA sequences in the Chinese hamster genome of four Y RNAs (chY1, chY3, chY4 and chY5) with upstream promoter sequences, which are homologous to the four main types of vertebrate Y RNAs. The chY1, chY3 and chY5 genes were highly conserved with their vertebrate counterparts, whilst the chY4 gene showed a relatively high degree of diversification from the other vertebrate Y4 genes. Molecular dynamics simulations suggest that chY4 RNA is structurally stable despite its evolutionarily divergent predicted stem structure. Of the four Y RNA genes present in the hamster genome, we found that only the chY1 and chY3 RNA were strongly expressed in the Chinese hamster GMA32 cell line, while expression of the chY4 and chY5 RNA genes was five orders of magnitude lower, suggesting that they may in fact not be expressed. We synthesized all four chY RNAs and showed that any of these four could support the initiation of DNA replication in an established human cell-free system. Conclusions These data therefore establish that non-coding chY RNAs are stable structures and can substitute for human Y RNAs in a reconstituted cell-free DNA replication initiation system.
