The paper attempts to elucidate some questions that frequently baffle students: (1) why do aliasing errors appear after standard z-transformation even with the input signal properly bandlimited? (2) is z = exp( sT) appropriate for determining the frequency response following bilinear z-transformation? (3) what are the consequences on impulse invariant filters of varying the sampling rate? </jats:p
An orientation course for freshman engineers at Tel-Aviv University, consisting of 21 lectures on a range of subjects given by various speakers from the academic staff and Industry, as well as two surveys on freshmen's changing attitudes towards several branches of engineering, are reported and evaluated. </jats:p
