Instanton size distributions from calibrated cooling
Using an under-relaxed cooling algorithm we investigated the vacuum in the
model and pure gauge . We calibrated the amount of
cooling performed to have similar physical effect at different lattice
spacings.Comment: 3 pages, (Talk given at LATTICE'94, to appear in the proceedings.

A simplified holographic-interferometry technique for real-time flow visualization and analysis
A holographic-interferometry technique for flow visualization and analysis that produces real-time moire fringes is described from both experimental and application considerations. It has three chief advantages: real-time data for continuous observation and photography, ease of optical adjustment, and capability of using ordinary-glass test-section windows without affecting the results. A theoretical discussion is presented describing the formation of the fringes in holographic terms and then comparing this result to that which is obtained from a conventional moire approach. A discussion on obtaining density information from the fringe pattern is also included
Scientific divers quantify first known outbreaks of cold-water coral disease
Coral diseases are widely reported in the tropics but the first incidence of cold-water coral disease was not noted until 2002 when divers recorded an outbreak at 10-28 m depth off Lundy in a NE Atlantic marine protected area. The seafan Eunicella verrucosa exhibited coenchyme necrosis and subsequent diving surveys of \u3e600 colonies at 13 sites since revealed that disease outbreaks were widespread in SW England to depths of 50 m from 2003-2008, possibly caused by infection by Vibrio bacteria at high temperatures
Supercritical oxygen heat transfer
Heat transfer to supercritical oxygen was experimentally measured in electrical heated tubes. Experimental data were obtained for pressures ranging from 17 to 34.5 MPa (2460 to 5000 psia), and heat fluxes from 2 to 90 million w/sq cm (1.2 to 55 Btu/(sq in. sec)). Bulk temperatures ranged from 96 to 217 K (173 to 391 R). Experimental data obtained by other investigators were added to this to increase the range of pressure down to 2 MPa (290 psia) and increase the range of bulk temperature up to 566 K (1019 R). From this compilation of experimental data a correlating equation was developed which predicts over 95% of the experimental data within + or - 30%
