Optimal Watermark Embedding and Detection Strategies Under Limited Detection Resources

An information-theoretic approach is proposed to watermark embedding and detection under limited detector resources. First, we consider the attack-free scenario under which asymptotically optimal decision regions in the Neyman-Pearson sense are proposed, along with the optimal embedding rule. Later, we explore the case of zero-mean i.i.d. Gaussian covertext distribution with unknown variance under the attack-free scenario. For this case, we propose a lower bound on the exponential decay rate of the false-negative probability and prove that the optimal embedding and detecting strategy is superior to the customary linear, additive embedding strategy in the exponential sense. Finally, these results are extended to the case of memoryless attacks and general worst case attacks. Optimal decision regions and embedding rules are offered, and the worst attack channel is identified.Comment: 36 pages, 5 figures. Revised version. ANÁLISE ECONÔMICA DA PRODUÇÃO DE TILÁPIAS EM UMA PROPRIEDADE ASSOCIATIVISTA DE ILHA SOLTEIRA/SP

O Brasil possui imenso potencial para o desenvolvimento da piscicultura, através de seus 5,5 milhões de hectares de reservatórios de águas doces, sendo que a criação de tilápias (Oreochromis niloticus) em sistemas de tanques-rede instalados em grandes reservatórios, é merecedora de destaque. O presente trabalho objetiva avaliar o custo de produção e a rentabilidade do cultivo de tilápia em tanques-rede de 18 m3, para uma associação de piscicultores (APROAQUA), no Município de Ilha Solteira/SP, tendo por base um estudo de caso para um ciclo produtivo de 180 dias em 0,5 ha, com 60 tanques-rede e produtividade de 68.000 Kg/ciclo. As estimativas de investimento e custos de produção foram baseadas no Custo Operacional Total utilizada pelo Instituto de Economia Agrícola. Os resultados mostraram a viabilidade econômica da produção de tilápias em tanques rede, obtendo uma taxa de lucratividade 22,57% e que ainda podem ser melhorados através de uma forma estratégica de comercialização conjunta na fase pré-produção, possibilitando uma diminuição significativa nos custos de produção.---------------------------------------------Brazil possesses immense potential for the development of the fish farming, through their 5,5 million hectares of reservoirs of fresh water, and the tilápias creation (Oreochromis niloticus) in tank-net systems installed in great reservoirs, it is worthy of prominence. GESTÃO UNIVERSITÁRIA CONTEMPORÂNEA: PLANEJAMENTO E AVALIAÇÃO COMO ELEMENTOS DE MUDANÇA INSTITUCIONAL

Este texto tem como propósito refletir sobre o contexto no qual se desenvolve a discussão sobre a reforma universitária brasileira. Reflete sobre as exigências contemporâneas de utilização do planejamento e da avaliação institucionais como instrumentos de mudança institucional e de promoção da gestão eficaz. Está baseado em pesquisa teórica realizada com o objetivo de propor uma nova forma de gestão para a universidade contemporânea. Analisa a utilização do planejamento e da avaliação da educação superior em todas as dimensões do fazer universitário. Relata a experiência exitosa que vem sendo desenvolvida pela Universidade Federal do Paraná na sua tentativa de mudança institucional. A pesquisa teórica foi desenvolvida também na busca de sustentação para o modelo de gestão em desenvolvimento. Indexação de obras de ficção em bibliotecas: avaliação e adequação do Modelo para Indexação de Ficção (MENTIF)

The Indexing of works of fiction to libraries catalogs requires an appropriate methodology linked to the textual structure of fiction narratives. The lack of an indexing methodology limits the representation and retrieval of subjects in the catalog. The methodological proposal of the Fiction Indexing Model (MENTIF) increases subject access points to the bibliographic records in the retrieval of these contents by other terms other than "fiction literature" representation. The research on indexing of works of fiction has as its objective to adjust the Model for Fiction Indexing (MENTIF) performed by researchers and catalogers. For this purpose, four evaluation stages were carried out, which included analysis of bibliographic records and the application of questionnaires to collect data regarding satisfaction and dissatisfaction. The results obtained allowed an adjustment of the MENTIF in accordance with the time restriction for the task as well as considering the catalogers cognitive and socio-cognitive strategies

Radioiodine plus recombinant human thyrotropin do not cause acute airway compression and are effective in reducing multinodular goiter

Recombinant human thyrotropin (rhTSH) reduces the activity of radioiodine required to treat multinodular goiter (MNG), but acute airway compression can be a life-threatening complication. In this prospective, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study, we assessed the efficacy and safety (including airway compression) of different doses of rhTSH associated with a fixed activity of 131I for treating MNG. Euthyroid patients with MNG (69.3 ± 62.0 mL, 20 females, 2 males, 64 ± 7 years) received 0.1 mg (group I, N = 8) or 0.01 mg (group II, N = 6) rhTSH or placebo (group III, N = 8), 24 h before 1.11 GBq 131I. Radioactive iodine uptake was determined at baseline and 24 h after rhTSH and thyroid volume (TV, baseline and 6 and 12 months after treatment) and tracheal cross-sectional area (TCA, baseline and 2, 7, 180, and 360 days after rhTSH) were determined by magnetic resonance; antithyroid antibodies and thyroid hormones were determined at frequent intervals. After 6 months, TV decreased significantly in groups I (28.5 ± 17.6%) and II (21.6 ± 17.8%), but not in group III (2.7 ± 15.3%). After 12 months, TV decreased significantly in groups I (36.7 ± 18.1%) and II (37.4 ± 27.1%), but not in group III (19.0 ± 24.3%). No significant changes in TCA were observed. T3 and free T4 increased transiently during the first month. After 12 months, 7 patients were hypothyroid (N = 3 in group I and N = 2 in groups II and III). rhTSH plus a 1.11-GBq fixed 131I activity did not cause acute or chronic changes in TCA. After 6 and 12 months, TV reduction was more pronounced among patients treated with rhTSH plus 131I

Monitoring functional capacity in heart failure.

This document reflects the key points of a consensus meeting of the Heart Failure Association of European Society of Cardiology (ESC) held to provide an overview the role of physiological monitoring in the complex multimorbid heart failure (HF) patient. This article reviews assessments of the functional ability of patients with HF. The gold standard measurement of cardiovascular functional capacity is peak oxygen consumption obtained from a cardiopulmonary exercise test. The 6-min walk test provides an indirect measure of cardiovascular functional capacity. Muscular functional capacity is assessed using either a 1-repetition maximum test of the upper and lower body or other methods, such as handgrip measurement. The short physical performance battery may provide a helpful, indirect indication of muscular functional capacity

Insecticidal activity of essential oils from Asteraceae species against Lepidopteras: a review

Botanical insecticides, in the form of plant extracts or essential oils, are an excellent alternative for pest management, with the advantage of being generally less toxic to mammals than are traditional synthetic ones. Considering the insecticidal potential presented by the Asteraceae species, this work aimed to present data on the insecticidal effect against Lepidopteras caused by essential oils from Asteraceae plants. Searches were carried out in the Web of Science, Scopus and PubMed databases for works published up to April 2023. As a result, 15 Asteraceae species were described regarding the insecticidal potential of their essential oils against lepidopteran pests, as well as the toxicity of the most effective essential oils and their chemical composition

"Porque a gente tem um corpo né... mas a gente só lembra do corpo quando ele dói": a centralidade do corpo adulto nas relações educativas na educação infantil

Tese (doutorado) - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Centro de Ciências da Educação, Programa de Pós-Graduação em Educação, Florianópolis, 2017.A presente pesquisa, em nível de doutorado, teve como problemática investigar: de que forma o corpo constitui a docência na Educação Infantil e como é constituído pelas relações educativas com crianças pequenas?Intencionando a aproximação da problemática definiu-se como objetivo geral: conhecer a centralidade do corpo na constituição da docência na Educação Infantil. A partir de uma perspectiva interpretativa os dados foram obtidos por meio de questionários e entrevistas. Os questionários foram respondidos por 45 docentes de 12 municípios da região metropolitana de Florianópolis e as entrevistas foram realizadas com 13 dessas professoras de 4 municípios da mesma região, todas elas atuavam em creches e pré-escolas municipais. Os dados qualitativos foram categorizados por meio da Técnica de Análise de Conteúdo e os quantitativos serviram para dar suporte às discussões. Por meio do agrupamento das unidades de sentido emergiram duas categorias principais: As especificidades da docência na Educação Infantil e a centralidade do corpo; O corpo como constituído e constituidor da docência na Educação Infantil. Como referencial teórico para as análises partiu-se de uma concepção de docência como uma atitude relacional (Tardif, 2002; Teixeira, 2007; Tardif, Lessard, 2009) e consideraram-se as especificidades da Educação Infantil (Rocha, 1999; Schmitt, 2008; 2014). Destacando a centralidade do corpo nas relações docentes refletimos sobre o corpo como simultaneamente físico e simbólico, produto da natureza e cultura, ancorado por um momento histórico e político (Hughes, Lock, 1987; Vigarello, 2003; Le Breton, 2003; 2006; 2009; Buss-Simão, 2012). As análises revelam que, embora o corpo seja um elemento central nas relações docentes nesta etapa educativa, as professoras pouco direcionam sua atenção a ele. O corpo das professoras é afetado pelas demandas profissionais e como reflexo, afeta as relações estabelecidas com as crianças. Dentre os principais fatores que contribuem para o desgaste corporal identificaram-se a inadequação dos espaços e das materialidades para o corpo dos adultos nos contextos de Educação Infantil e uma lacuna nas formações iniciais e continuadas de professores no tocante ao corpo.Abstract : The present research, at doctoral level, had as problematic to discover: in what way the body constitutes the teaching in the early childhood education and how it is constituted by the educative relations with small children? Intending to approach the problem defined for the present research was defined as a general objective: to know the centrality of the body in the constitution of teaching in early childhood education. From an interpretative perspective the data were obtained through questionnaires and interviews. The questionnaires were answered by 45 teachers from 12 municipalities in the metropolitan region of Florianópolis and the interviews were conducted with 13 of these teachers from 4 municipalities in the same region, all of them working in kindergartens and public kindergarten. Qualitative data were categorized using the Content Analysis Technique and the quantitative data served to support the discussions. From the process of emersion the two main categories were: The specificities of teaching in early childhood education and the centrality of the body; The body as constituted and constituent of teaching in early childhood education. As a theoretical reference for the analyzes, a conception of teaching as a relational attitude (Tardif, 2002; Teixeira, 2007; Tardif, Lessard, 2009) was considered and the specificities of early childhood education were considered (Rocha, 1999; Schmitt, 2008, 2014). Highlighting the centrality of the body in teacher relations we reflect on the body as simultaneously physical and symbolic, product of nature and culture, anchored by a historical and political moment (Hughes, Lock, 1987; Le Breton, 2003; 2006; 2009; Buss-Simão, 2012) The analyzes reveal that, although the body is a central element in teacher relations at this stage of education, the teachers do not direct their attention to it. The teachers' body is affected by professional demands and, as a reflex, affects the relations established with the children. Among the main factors that contributed to the corporal exhaustion were identified the inadequacy of the spaces and materialities for the adult bodies in the contexts of early childhood education and a gap in the initial and continued formations of teachers regarding the body
