This research is focused on teaching descriptive text writing by using PowerPoint Presentation. The aim of this research is to know the effectiveness of teaching descriptive text writing by using PowerPoint Presentation to the seventh grade students of MTsN 1 Pontianak in the academic year 2011/2012. It is a pre-experimental study where the form used is one group of pretest and posttest design. The population in this research was all the seventh grade students of MTsN 1 Pontianak in academic year 2011/2012. It involved 32 students from class VIIB as the research subjects. The data were collected by written test and analyzed by ES (Effect Size) formula. The finding show the effect size of treatment (ES) is 2.64. Since the value is higher than 0.5, the effect size of treatments (ES) is categorized as highly efective. It means that teaching descriptive text writing by using PowerPoint Presentation to the seventh grade students of MTsN 1 Pontianak in academic year 2011/2012 gave a significant effect to improve the students achievement

This study discussed about using pictionary game to improve students' vocabulary mastery to the third grade students of SDN 05 Pontianak Timur. The data were gathered from classroom observations and interview. The analysis showed how Pictionary game gave an improvement in pronouncing, knowing and memorizing words. It provided opportunities for students to improve the vocabulary mastery as well as motivation to help the teacher managing classroom interaction. It also enabled the students to experience the vocabulary; they made noticeable progress in their vocabulary learning, gaining the confidence to pronounce word in pronouncing. In short, this study showed that Pictionary game promoted students active participation in the activities with more opportunities to improve their vocabulary through practice which in turn increased their positive attitude for language learning

The title of this research is short movies as media to improve students ability in writing descriptive text at the eighth grade students class E of SMPN 19 Pontianak in the academic year 2011/2012. The purpose of this research was to improve students ability in writing descriptive especially to solve students problems of difficulties in conveying good grammar and using appropriate vocabularies in writing descriptive text. The researcher conducted a classroom action research. The subject was 40 students. This research was done in three cycles, consisted of planning, acting, observing, and reflecting of each cycles. In collecting the data applied the observation and measurement technique. The improvement can be seen from the students have better understanding in vocabulary and grammar use and students mean score in each cycle which is 56, 64.75 and 74.25

This work addresses and enlightens synthetic aspects derived from our effort to systematically construct isoskeletal tetranuclear coordination clusters (CCs) of the general formula [TR2Ln2(LX)4(NO3)2(solv)2] possessing a specific defected dicubane topology, utilizing various substituted Schiff base organic ligands (H2LX) and NiII/CoII and Dy(OTf)3 salts. Our synthetic work is further supported by DFT studies

Improving Students Reading Comprehension on Narrative Text Through Reciprocal Teaching Technique

This research was carried out to improve the students reading comprehension on narrative text, especially main idea and moral value through Reciprocal Teaching technique. It was a Classroom Action Research which was conducted in two cycles. The subject of this research was Grade XI IPA 1, numbering 32 students. The data was collected using observation checklist, fieldnote, and test. The data was interpreted by describing the observation checklist and fieldnote. It also used mean score and percentage to scoring the test. The results indicated the students reading comprehension on narrative text improve in two cycles through Reciprocal Teaching technique. The students comprehension on main ideas moral values was better in the second cycle than the first cycle which was shown by the percentage of its aspects. In the first cycle, the students achieved 65,71% for the main idea, and 33,33% for the moral value; while in the second cycle, the students achieved 70,53% for the main idea and 65,58% for the moral value

Dinuclear Lanthanide (III) coordination polymers in a domino reaction

A systematic study was performed to further optimise the catalytic room-temperature synthesis of trans-4,5- diaminocyclopent-2-enones from 2-furaldehyde and primary or secondary amines under a non-inert atmosphere. For this purpose, a series of dinuclear lanthanide (III) coordination polymers were synthesised using a dianionic Schiff base and their catalytic activities were investigated

Email: [email protected] Abstract: This Research aimed to answer the research questions about the significant and the size effect of the use of PowerPoint Animations in teaching reading comprehension on narrative text. This research used a pre-experimental study in one group pretest posttest design. The data of this research were collected by using measurement technique that was written test in the form of essay test numbering 10 items. The population of this research was the Second Year students of SMA Negeri 1 Kembayan in Academic Year 2012/2013 numbering 106 students. The sample of this research was 30 students (class XI IPA 1). The finding of this research showed that PowerPoint Animations increased the students\u27 achievement in reading comprehension significantly. Then, the effect size of treatment (ES= 1.34 > 0.8) and categorized as highly effective. Key words: Teaching Reading Comprehension, Narrative, PowerPoint Animations.

Recent Transits of the Super-Earth Exoplanet GJ 1214b

We report recent ground-based photometry of the transiting super-Earth exoplanet GJ1214b at several wavelengths, including the infrared near 1.25 microns (J-band). We observed a J-band transit with the FLAMINGOS infrared imager and the 2.1-meter telescope on Kitt Peak, and we observed several optical transits using a 0.5-meter telescope on Kitt Peak and the 0.36-meter Universidad de Monterrey Observatory telescope. Our high-precision J-band observations exploit the brightness of the M-dwarf host star at this infrared wavelength as compared to the optical, as well as being significantly less affected by stellar activity and limb darkening. We fit the J-band transit to obtain an independent determination of the planetary and stellar radii. Our radius for the planet (2.61^+0.30_-0.11 Earth radii) is in excellent agreement with the discovery value reported by Charbonneau et al. based on optical data. We demonstrate that the planetary radius is insensitive to degeneracies in the fitting process. We use all of our observations to improve the transit ephemeris, finding P=1.5804043 +/- 0.0000005 days, and T0=2454964.94390 +/- 0.00006 BJD.Comment: Accepted for ApJ Letters, 7 pages, 3 Figures, 2 Table
