    Digital labour shortage: a new divide in library and information studies education?

    This paper offers a preliminary reflection on the degree to which the concept of 'digital labour' appears in current library and information studies (LIS) education language, including in course titles, course descriptions, and course content. A basis for this paper was established from September 2010 to April 2011 through examination of a global range of online publicly accessible LIS program information. First stage analysis indicates that LIS education language appears to treat digital labour reductively; it fails to account for the labour conditions that frame the work. A tightening of the search examined evidence of critical teaching and learning of digital labour that allow for determinations of how the digital work environment relates to library labour rights and movements. This resulted in a scan of English language and translated information for a total of 121 individual LIS programs. Several trends emerged, which suggest that digital labour is generally, and most often out of necessity, inherently connected to other issues studied in LIS programs. A potential, yet unborn, paradigm in LIS education negates the basic notion of digital labour movement. Recommendations include research into the potential value of teaching and learning about the theory and practice of digital labour, a more sufficient and sophisticated approach to digital labour within LIS education in foundations courses, and a proposed set of possible advanced topics for teaching and learning in LIS education. Limitations of this topical exploration include what might be explained by the unknown factor of what is actually unseen from publicly accessible documents. To test the meaning of our first-stage work, future inquiry might involve interviews with teachers and looking into classroom communication of learners to see how the idea of digital labour is being addressed by them even if it is only in the most subtle manner

    Learning Cultural Humility Through Stories and Global Service-Learning

    Service-learning experiences are often utilized by nursing programs in efforts to increase the cultural competence of nursing students. Through the use of sharing story, the concepts of cultural competence and cultural humility can be explained for students preparing for upcoming intercultural experiences. This case study describes the experience of nursing students and university faculty on their first service-learning trip to rural Kenya and how the intercultural issues were navigated there as students developed characteristics of cultural humility. This story is now being shared in preparations for subsequent international trips with nursing students and can be a model for programs wanting to prepare for service-learning experiences

    Learning Sparse & Ternary Neural Networks with Entropy-Constrained Trained Ternarization (EC2T)

    Deep neural networks (DNN) have shown remarkable success in a variety of machine learning applications. The capacity of these models (i.e., number of parameters), endows them with expressive power and allows them to reach the desired performance. In recent years, there is an increasing interest in deploying DNNs to resource-constrained devices (i.e., mobile devices) with limited energy, memory, and computational budget. To address this problem, we propose Entropy-Constrained Trained Ternarization (EC2T), a general framework to create sparse and ternary neural networks which are efficient in terms of storage (e.g., at most two binary-masks and two full-precision values are required to save a weight matrix) and computation (e.g., MAC operations are reduced to a few accumulations plus two multiplications). This approach consists of two steps. First, a super-network is created by scaling the dimensions of a pre-trained model (i.e., its width and depth). Subsequently, this super-network is simultaneously pruned (using an entropy constraint) and quantized (that is, ternary values are assigned layer-wise) in a training process, resulting in a sparse and ternary network representation. We validate the proposed approach in CIFAR-10, CIFAR-100, and ImageNet datasets, showing its effectiveness in image classification tasks.Comment: Proceedings of the CVPR'20 Joint Workshop on Efficient Deep Learning in Computer Vision.     Surface relief evolution in cast superalloy In738LC fatigued at room temperature

    Nízkocyklová únava je důležitým hodnotícím parametrem u součástí z materiálů, které jsou během svého provozu vystaveny náhodnému střídavému napětí, které je dané teplotními výkyvy při provozu nebo odstávkách např. leteckých motorů. Zkoušky nízkocyklové únavy byly provedeny na vzorcích superslitiny Inconel 738LC při stálé pokojové teplotě 23°C. Samotný experiment probíhal v určitých intervalech skládajících se ze samotného cyklování a pozorování změn povrchového reliéfu pomocí světelné a elektronové mikroskopie. Na tomto materiálu byl již v ranném stádiu nízkocyklové únavy pozorován výrazný povrchový reliéf. Bylo provedeno srovnání naměřených výsledků v rámci různých pozorovacích metod.Low cycle fatigue is an important valving parameter of materiale which are exposed random alternate strain during their operation. The alternate strain in that material is caused by temperature fluctuations during operation and outages such as aircraft engines. Tests of low cycle fatigue were performed on samples of superalloy Inconel 738LC at stable room temperature at 23°C. The actual experiment took place at certain intervals, consisting of cycling itself, and observing changes in surface relief by light and electron microscopy. There was observed significant surface relief at an early stage of low cycle fatigue. We compared results of measurement with other different observation methods.

Byly vyhledány časté případy konfliktů mezi těmito systémy v průmyslu a těmto konfliktům byla přiřazena možná řešení (od levných až po ekonomicky náročnější). Tento přehledný soupis řešení poskytuje možná řešení konfliktů mezi hospodařením s energiemi a bezpečností.This work solves comparison of structures and conflicts between an energy management system and safety at work. The articles about frequent cases of conflict between these systems in the industry were found and these conflicts were assigned to possible solutions (from cheap to economically more demanding). This overview list of solution provides possible solutions to solve the conflicts between energy management and safety.
