Human immunodeficiency virus type-1 (HIV-1) continues to evolve in presence of broadly neutralizing antibodies more than ten years after infection.

BACKGROUND: The evolution of HIV-1 and its immune escape to autologous neutralizing antibodies (Nabs) during the acute/early phases of infection have been analyzed in depth in many studies. In contrast, little is known about neither the long-term evolution of the virus in patients who developed broadly Nabs (bNabs) or the mechanism of escape in presence of these bNabs. RESULTS: We have studied the viral population infecting a long term non progressor HIV-1 infected patient who had developed broadly neutralizing antibodies toward all tier 2/3 viruses (6 clades) tested, 9 years after infection, and was then followed up over 7 years. The autologous neutralization titers of the sequential sera toward env variants representative of the viral population significantly increased during the follow-up period. The most resistant pseudotyped virus was identified at the last visit suggesting that it represented a late emerging escape variant. We identified 5 amino acids substitutions that appeared associated with escape to broadly neutralizing antibodies. They were V319I/S, R/K355T, R/W429G, Q460E and G/T463E, in V3, C3 and V5 regions. CONCLUSION: This study showed that HIV-1 may continue to evolve in presence of both broadly neutralizing antibodies and increasing autologous neutralizing activity more than 10 years post-infection

Origins of Intermediate Velocity Particle Production in Heavy Ion Reactions

Investigation of intermediate-velocity particle production is performed on entrance channel mass asymmetric collisions of 58Ni+C and 58Ni+Au at 34.5 MeV/nucleon. Distinctions between prompt pre-equilibrium ejections, multiple neck ruptures and an alternative phenomenon of delayed aligned asymmetric breakup is achieved using source reconstructed correlation observables and time-based cluster recognition in molecular dynamics simulations.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure

Monitoring bioinspired fibrillar grippers by contact observation and machine learning

    Get PDF
The remarkable properties of bio-inspired microstructures make them extensively accessible for various applications, including industrial, medical, and space applications. However, their implementation especially as grippers for pick-and-place robotics can be compromised by multiple factors. The most common ones are alignment imperfections with the target object, unbalanced stress distribution, contamination, defects, and roughness at the gripping interface. In the present work, three different approaches to assess the contact phenomena between patterned structures and the target object are presented. First, in-situ observation and machine learning are combined to realize accurate real-time predictions of adhesion performance. The trained supervised learning models successfully predict the adhesion performance from the contact signature. Second, two newly developed optical systems are compared to observe the correct grasping of various target objects (rough or transparent) by looking through the microstructures. And last, model experiments are provided for a direct comparison with simulation efforts aiming at a prediction of the contact signature and an analysis of the rate and preload-dependency of the adhesion strength of a soft polymer film in contact with roughness-like surface topography. The results of this thesis open new perspectives for improving the reliability of handling systems using bioinspired microstructures. Leibniz Competition Grant MUSIGAND (No. K279/2019) awarded to Eduard Arz

This study was conducted to determine the factors of management of farm chemical in compliance with standard safety policy. Farm chemical is one of the basis in Department of Occupational Safety And Health Malaysia. It is a principle used in workplace to manage safety and health Farm chemical is a compound word which is made up of any synthetic substances that be used in field that recognizing of things which may cause injury or harm to a person. Farm chemical such as pesticide, herbicide and fungicide is something that we as general worker or individuals using it on a day-to-day basis when applying at field. People are constantly using farm chemical without aware or knowledge on risk bear for the long term effect even the early sign of symptoms was shown. Headache, skin burns, itching and annual week absence responsible chemical worker are all imply after an acceptance farm chemical conducted. The objective of this study is to determine the compliance level of standard safety policy toward management of farm chemical. Which is the most factor influence compliance among knowledge, awareness and practices. This study was carried out at Ladang Zamrud, Kluang,Johor under PIJ Plantation and the respondent is among dependent general worker. The population in this area is 180 persons but only 85 worker focusing in task related farm chemical and the sample number is 70 person based on Krejrie and Morgan scale. The data of this study is gaining from the questionnaire that will distribute to the respondent. The data will be analysed by using reliability test and Statistical package for social science (SPSS). From the analysis, the researcher determine that awareness and practices of the factor have strong and significant relationship and awareness become the most influenced factor (p=0.000, ß=0.691) toward compliance with standard safety policy. Practices is accepted by general workers because this activity is important directly to activity their done daily and felt it. For other factor, lack of knowledge and lack of fund is become the reason why general worker low compliance with safety policy. From this study, the researcher can conclude that awareness and practices of the factor of management of farm chemical in compliance with standard safety policy have strong significant correlation relationship because all of the factor have p<0.05 and have higher Beta value. Lastly as a recommendation of this study is based on the result and also the problem that occurred when carried out this study, there are a many workers especially foreigner worker that do not understand or do not get enough knowledge about the management of farm chemical in compliance with standard safety policy. So they need to be educate with knowledge because foreigner worker major general worker in plantation. Moreover, adding other factor that can impact the result

This study analyzes the relationship between ownership structure and bank performance in Malaysia. The empirical analysis of this study is restricted to Malaysian Commercial Banks during the period of 2001-2011. The main objective of this study is to examine the relationship between ownership structure and performance in commercial bank in Malaysia. The results show that different types of ownership have different impact on bank performance. The result also shows that foreign ownership had largest impact to bank performance compared to other types of ownership structure. Higher shares by institutional tend to induce larger monitoring which leads to better performance of the banks. However, the results indicate that higher insider ownership and family ownership would increase agency problem in the banks. Government ownership is found to have no impact on the banks performanc
