The Effects of Skill Level on Distance and Heart Rate in Collegiate Tennis Players

The purpose of this experiment was to evaluate if skill level affects distance traveled and heart rate in tennis players in a collegiate match. Previous studies using professional tennis players have shown an increased distance for higher skill level players. Therefore, it was hypothesized that the higher level group would travel further in a match and have higher heart rates than the lower level group. Men (N=6) and women (N=6) from the TLU tennis team were observed for this experiment. Subjects were placed into either a higher level group (Group A) or a lower level group (Group B), based on their win percentage in competitive drills during practice. Subjects were observed in a total of twelve matches, with their total distance and heart rate noted at the end of each match. Current software solutions for real estate planning, construction and use, do not model the complete life cycle of a building. Well-integrated software tools exist for the planning and construction phases. Data integrity exists throughout the planning and construction phases, but problems occur at the transition to the use-phase. At this interface, the complete data set of planning and execution gets lost. Another software deficiency is that current software solutions don’t handle construction work and maintenance work equally. This is why a new software generation is demanded, which continuously covers the entire workflow process from the planning phase to the demolition of a building. New data concepts have to be developed, which allow bringing work items for construction together with work items for real estate use

The Evil is Inside the House and There is Nowhere to Run – Analysing the Representation of The Irish Family in The Canal (2014), By Ivan Kavanagh

The Canal (2014) is an Irish horror film written and directed by Ivan Kavanagh. The story is about David, an archivist who believes a spirit murdered his wife, Alice. David’s mental condition is highly questionable, as for the police he is the main suspect of the investigation. In this film, Kavanagh portrays the domestic environment as unstable and violent. The narrative contrasts with Ireland’s familist ideology and perception of the family as a harmonious haven. According to Isabel Pinedo (1997), postmodern horror films explore the terrors of everyday life and blur the limits between good and evil. Places and individuals, previously considered safe and caring, can be associated with horrifying events. These contradictions raise the question of how Kavanagh portrayed the family in the postmodern horror paradigm. This study aims at analysing the representation of the Irish family in The Canal taking into account studies about the Irish family and cinema. The research method is content analysis, which is a technique to describe and examine the communicative material, in this case, a movie. Furthermore, the results of this study may contribute to the development of further research related to Ireland’s contemporary films and society.The Canal (2014) é um filme de terror irlandês, escrito e dirigido por Ivan Kavanagh, sobre David, um arquivista que acredita que um espírito assassinou sua esposa, Alice. O estado mental de David é altamente questionável, visto que para a polícia ele é o principal suspeito da investigação. Neste filme, Kavanagh retrata o ambiente doméstico como instável e violento. A narrativa contrasta com a ideologia familista da Irlanda e a percepção da família como um refúgio harmonioso. Segundo Isabel Pinedo (1997), os filmes de terror pós-modernos exploram os terrores da vida cotidiana e confundem os limites entre o bem e o mal. Lugares e indivíduos, antes considerados como fonte de cuidado e segurança, podem estar associados a eventos horripilantes. Essas contradições suscitam a questão de como Kavanagh retratou a família no paradigma do terror pós-moderno. Este estudo tem como objetivo analisar a representação da família irlandesa em The Canal a partir de estudos sobre a família irlandesa e o cinema. O método de pesquisa é a análise de conteúdo, uma técnica utilizada para descrever e examinar o material comunicativo, nesse caso, um filme. Além disso, os resultados deste estudo podem contribuir para o desenvolvimento de pesquisas futuras relacionadas aos filmes e à sociedade contemporânea da Irlanda

Notifications management across devices

It is common for an individual user to own multiple electronic devices, e.g., laptop, smartphone, etc. Applications on these devices often provide notifications even when not explicitly opened or accessed by the user. Notifications that have been dismissed by the user on one device may continue to persist as zombie notifications on other devices, leading to a suboptimal user experience. Techniques of this disclosure manage notifications across devices such that notifications are synchronized across devices. With user permission, the techniques enable targeting a notification to an active device and/or a device that is appropriate for the user to act on the notification. A notification hub is implemented as a single source of notifications across a range of applications and services. Method For Using Photos As Contextual Information For Ad Targeting

A system and method are disclosed for identifying items, objects, and activities in photos taken by a user, of a user, or shared with a user to target ads. The method works as follows. The user takes photos relating to an interest (interest-1) that he stores in photo library. If a user visits a website relating to another interest (interest-2), and if the website shows ads, the website visit triggers an ad auction. For targeting ads, the system accesses the user’s contextual information relating to interest-2, and additionally the photo library for other interests, identifying interest-1 from the photo library. In the ad auction, the system scores ads based on relation to interest-2, or both interest-2 and interest-1 to determine priority. Finally, the system shows relevant ads based on highest priority. The method increases relevancy and quality of ads to the user without direct input from the user

Incidência de dermatite de contato decorrente de acidentes com besouro potó (paederus sp.), nos distritos de Barão de Aquiraz e Quixariu em Campos Sales - Ceará.

Os eczemas são um grupo de doenças dermatológicas, caracterizados porinflamação da pele, causada por contato direto com um agente irritante ou alérgeno.Dentre estas doenças está a dermatite de contato, que pode ser desencadeada porcontato direto com insetos. São conhecidos como besouros defensivos, pois em defesa própria, agridem o homem, quando se sentem ameaçados ou pressionadoscontra a pele. Este estudo tem como objetivo investigar a ocorrência de dermatitesde contato provocadas pelos acidentes com o besouro potó (Paederus sp), notificados nos atendimentos das Unidades Básicas de Saúde (UBS) dos distritos de Quixariú e Barão de Aquiraz no município de Campos Sales – CE. O estudo é do tipo intervenção no qual se pode encontrar o problema e realizar uma ação que seja resolutiva ou minimize danos coletivos e individuais aos indivíduos envolvidos no estudo, além de propiciar o modo cooperativo ou participativo do paciente na resolução do seu problema de saúde. Os resultados esperados são a diminuição dos casos de acidentes com besouro potó nas comunidades estudadas contribuindo para a prevenção e promoção à saúde, bem como constituir base de dados que complemente as informações contidas na literatura acerca da dermatite de contato causada por acidentes com o inseto Paederus sp., conhecendo os fatores preponderantes de acidentes provocados por contato com a substância vesicant (...
