Metal Distribution and Short-Time Variability in Recent Sediments from the Ganges River towards the Bay of Bengal (India)

    Get PDF
The Ganges River receives inputs from highly populated cities of India (New Delhi, Calcutta, among others) and a strong influence of anthropogenic activities until reaching the Bay of Bengal. It is a seasonal river with 80% of discharges occurring between July and October during monsoon. The land-based activities next to the shore lead to discharges of untreated domestic and industrial e uents, inputs of agricultural chemicals, discharges of organic matter (cremations), and discharges of chemicals from aquaculture farms. In spite of the UNESCO declaring Human Patrimony the National Park Sundarbans, located in the delta, contamination has increased over time and it dramatically intensifies during the monsoon period due to the flooding of the drainage basin. Vertical element distribution (Cd, Co, Hg, Ni, Pb, and Zn) was studied in sediments collected in di erent stations towards the Hügli Estuary. Results determined no vertical gradient associated with the analyzed sediment samples, which informs about severe sediment dynamic in the area that probably relates to tidal hydrodynamics and seasonal variation floods. The multivariate analysis results showed di erent associations among metals and in some cases between some of them (Co, Zn, Pb, and Cu) and the organic carbon. These allow the identification of di erent geochemical processes in the area and their relationship with the sources of contamination such as discharge of domestic and industrial e uents and di use sources enhanced by the monsoons. Also, an environmental risk value was given to the studied area by comparing the analyzed concentrations to quality guidelines adopted in other countries. It showed an estimated risk associated with the concentration of the metal Cu measured in the area of Kadwip

Physical activity and sport motivation influencing runners’ transport and cultural behavior at the Tokyo Marathon

    No full text
Introduction: Mega sporting events not only promote physical activity but also offer opportunities to encourage environmentally sustainable behaviors. The Tokyo Marathon, as one of the World Marathon Majors, provides a unique context to examine how runners’ environmental awareness and motivational drivers influence transport behavior and engagement in physical activity. Understanding these behavioral patterns is crucial for integrating sustainability with health promotion in large-scale sporting events. Methodology: Guided by the Theory of Planned Behavior, this study surveyed 300 runners of diverse ages, nationalities, and experience levels using an online questionnaire. Key constructs measured included Environmental Awareness (EA), Runner Attitude (RA), Perceived Behavioral Control (PBC), Subjective Norms (SN), Green Marathon Perceived Quality (PQ), and Physical Activity (PA). Followed by Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) to examine hypothesized relationships among variables. Discussion: Results indicate that EA significantly predicts PBC, RA, and PQ, highlighting the role of environmental knowledge in shaping attitudes and perceptions of event quality. Physical activity is significantly influenced by PBC and RA, while SN and PQ show no significant effect. These findings emphasize the importance of intrinsic motivation and perceived behavioral control over social influence or perceived event quality in promoting sustainable and active transport behaviors. Conclusions: Enhancing environmental awareness and fostering positive attitudes can effectively encourage eco-friendly and health-promoting behaviors in mega sporting events, offering actionable insights for event organizers, policymakers, and sport tourism planners aiming to combine sustainability with participant well-being. This project shows how we can eliminate the threat of password cracking by rainbow table. In this project we had made an encipher which encrypts our message or password in such a way that it becomes impossible to make a complete rainbow table for it which thus protects us from rainbow table attack used by professional hackers to crack the password. The encipher encrypts our message such that a different hash value is created every time, even if you encrypt the same message more than one time</jats:p

Facemask Detection With an Alarm System and Email Notification Using Deep Learning to Prevent Spread of COVID-19

    No full text
Abstract COVID-19 is one of the most dangerous viruses which caused a pandemic in human life, not only in terms of direct casualties but also regarding socio-economic impact. The outbreak quickly spread around the world. The 1st anniversary of the global Corona virus pandemic gets passed away in 2021, but still, no way to tell how long the pandemic will continue. After analyzing a report by WHO of covid-19, to minimize the rate of covid-19 transmission, our national government advised citizens to wear face masks. A model using deep learning and MobileNetV2 for face mask detection is presented. This method was trained and checked on the real-time dataset. There are 3,833 images in the Medical Masks Dataset, including 1918 images of people wearing no mask and 1915 images of people wearing masks. We adopted OpenCV to detect faces in real-time from a live stream captured with our webcam. With the aid of computer vision and deep learning, we hope to classify whether or not the person in the video stream is wearing a face mask. If the camera captures a face without a mask an Email notification will be sent out to the administrator and the system alarm will ring.</jats:p

    No full text
Objective: Simvastatin was used as an adjuvant medication in this clinico-radiographic investigation to assess the impact on crestal bone levels around immediate implantation. Materials and Methods: A randomized controlled trial with 50 patients who needed an implant placed right away was done. Simvastatin was used as an adjuvant in groups ((Group A), whereas group (Group B)) served as the control group for the participants. At baseline and during follow-up visits, clinical measures such as probing depth (PD) and bleeding on probing (BOP) were measured. At baseline and 12 weeks, radiographic measurements of crestal bone levels were taken. Results: At 12 weeks, Group A demonstrated a significantly lower PD and BOP than did Group B. Furthermore, at 12 weeks, Group A showed greater crestal bone preservation than did Group B. The results of the statistical analysis showed that the two groups were significantly different. Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that simvastatin use as an adjuvant medication after immediate implant insertion contributes to better clinical outcomes and greater crestal bone preservation. Simvastatin may be helpful in increasing bone regeneration, decreasing inflammation, and soft tissue healing. These findings demonstrate how simvastatin may be used as an additional therapy to enhance the effectiveness of rapid implant implantation operations
