Empirical model for quasi direct current interruption with a convoluted arc
This contribution considers various aspects of a quasi direct current, convoluted arc produced by a magnetic field (B-field) connected in parallel with an RLC circuit that have not been considered in combination. These aspects are the arc current limitation due to the arc convolution, changes in arc resistance due to the B-field and material ablation, and the relative significance of the RLC circuit in producing an artificial current zero. As a result, it has been possible to produce an empirical equation for predicting the current interruption capability in terms of the B-field magnitude and RLC components
The Hanabi Challenge: A New Frontier for AI Research
From the early days of computing, games have been important testbeds for
studying how well machines can do sophisticated decision making. In recent
years, machine learning has made dramatic advances with artificial agents
reaching superhuman performance in challenge domains like Go, Atari, and some
variants of poker. As with their predecessors of chess, checkers, and
backgammon, these game domains have driven research by providing sophisticated
yet well-defined challenges for artificial intelligence practitioners. We
continue this tradition by proposing the game of Hanabi as a new challenge
domain with novel problems that arise from its combination of purely
cooperative gameplay with two to five players and imperfect information. In
particular, we argue that Hanabi elevates reasoning about the beliefs and
intentions of other agents to the foreground. We believe developing novel
techniques for such theory of mind reasoning will not only be crucial for
success in Hanabi, but also in broader collaborative efforts, especially those
with human partners. To facilitate future research, we introduce the
open-source Hanabi Learning Environment, propose an experimental framework for
the research community to evaluate algorithmic advances, and assess the

?Switchgrass? é uma gramínea que tem recebido atenção especial como uma cultura bioenergética nos EUA. Os pulgões foram relatados como uma praga potencial em populações desta gramínea e não está claro como a manipulação genética para uma melhor produção de bioenergia afetará a capacidade da planta em tolerar a injuria deste inseto. Portanto, os objetivos deste estudo foram comparar o teor de proteína total e atividade de peroxidase de três populações de ?switchgrass? (Kanlow, KxS e Summer) a injuria pelo pulgão-verde-dos-cereais
Temporal Modulation of Traveling Waves in the Flow Between Rotating Cylinders With Broken Azimuthal Symmetry
The effect of temporal modulation on traveling waves in the flows in two
distinct systems of rotating cylinders, both with broken azimuthal symmetry,
has been investigated. It is shown that by modulating the control parameter at
twice the critical frequency one can excite phase-locked standing waves and
standing-wave-like states which are not allowed when the system is rotationally
symmetric. We also show how previous theoretical results can be extended to

Convective thundercloud development over the western ghats mountain slope in Kerala
Studies were carried out on the data from Braemore mountain observatory (lat. 8°45'N, long. 77°5'E) using a single-lens ceilometer (LIDAR), an electric field mill and a portable automatic weather station throughout the year 2010. The simultaneous data collected using the above instruments indicate the existence of strong updrafts followed by the formation of thunderclouds, a characteristic of the mountain slopes, during the thunderstorm months. Changes in atmosphere related to condensation and formation of water droplets during updraft events on the mountain slope could be detected from the ceilometer scattering data. Results of the study point to the cause of relatively more thunderstorm activity in that zone. This seems to be due to excessive updraft, which is strongly related to lightning activity in the region

We report the complete genome sequence of the Sungri/96 vaccine strain of peste des petits ruminants virus (PPRV). The whole-genome nucleotide sequence has 89 to 99% identity with the available PPRV genome sequences in the NCBI database. This study helps to understand the epidemiological and molecular characteristics of the Sungri/96 strain
