Antiproton constraints on dark matter annihilations from internal electroweak bremsstrahlung
If the dark matter particle is a Majorana fermion, annihilations into two
fermions and one gauge boson could have, for some choices of the parameters of
the model, a non-negligible cross-section. Using a toy model of leptophilic
dark matter, we calculate the constraints on the annihilation cross-section
into two electrons and one weak gauge boson from the PAMELA measurements of the
cosmic antiproton-to-proton flux ratio. Furthermore, we calculate the maximal
astrophysical boost factor allowed in the Milky Way under the assumption that
the leptophilic dark matter particle is the dominant component of dark matter
in our Universe. These constraints constitute very conservative estimates on
the boost factor for more realistic models where the dark matter particle also
couples to quarks and weak gauge bosons, such as the lightest neutralino which
we also analyze for some concrete benchmark points. The limits on the
astrophysical boost factors presented here could be used to evaluate the
prospects to detect a gamma-ray signal from dark matter annihilations at
currently operating IACTs as well as in the projected CTA.Comment: 32 pages; 13 figure
Harmonic-seeded remote laser emissions in N2-Ar, N2-Xe and N2-Ne mixtures: a comparative study
We report on the investigation on harmonic-seeded remote laser emissions at
391 nm wavelength from strong-field ionized nitrogen molecules in three
different gas mixtures, i.e., N2-Ar, N2-Xe and N2-Ne. We observed a decrease in
the remote laser intensity in the N2-Xe mixture because of the decreased
clamped intensity in the filament; whereas in the N2-Ne mixture, the remote
laser intensity slightly increases because of the increased clamped intensity
within the filament. Remarkably, although the clamped intensity in the filament
remains nearly unchanged in the N2-Ar mixture because of the similar ionization
potentials of N2 and Ar, a significant enhancement of the lasing emission is
realized in the N2-Ar mixture. The enhancement is attributed to the stronger
third harmonic seed, and longer gain medium due to the extended filament.Comment: 10 pages, 5 figure
Promoting sustainable agricultural intensification and crowdsourcing plot information
Provision of adequate and timely information to farmers on the ground means optimizing crop production decisions, reducing costs and eliminating adverse effects of overuse of agricultural inputs, e.g. fertilizer.
AgroTutor aims to support farmers across Mexico with benchmarking information, including historical and potential yield on the area where the
plot is located, historical costs, income and profit as well as agronomical recommendations. Location and limits of parcels can be saved, and
agronomical activities including costs, pictures and videos can be then added to document the cropping system

A crowdsourced global data set for validating built-up surface layers
Several global high-resolution built-up surface products have emerged over the last five years, taking full advantage of open sources of satellite data such as Landsat and Sentinel. However, these data sets require validation that is independent of the producers of these products. To fill this gap, we designed a validation sample set of 50 K locations using a stratified sampling approach independent of any existing global built-up surface products. We launched a crowdsourcing campaign using Geo-Wiki (https://www.geo-wiki.org/) to visually interpret this sample set for built-up surfaces using very high-resolution satellite images as a source of reference data for labelling the samples, with a minimum of five validations per sample location. Data were collected for 10 m sub-pixels in an 80 × 80 m grid to allow for geo-registration errors as well as the application of different validation modes including exact pixel matching to majority or percentage agreement. The data set presented in this paper is suitable for the validation and inter-comparison of multiple products of built-up areas
