We discuss a new cluster representation for the internal energy and the specific heat of the d-dimensional Ising model, obtained by studying the percolation mapping of an Ising model with an arbitrary set of antiferromagnetic links. Such a representation relates the thermal operators to the topological properties of the Fortuin-Kasteleyn clusters of Ising percolation and is a powerful tool to get new exact relations on the topological structure of FK clusters of the Ising model defined on an arbitrary graph.Comment: 17 pages, 2 figures. ScamGPT-J: Inside the Scammer’s Mind, A Generative AI-Based Approach Toward Combating Messaging Scams

The increase in global cellphone usage has led to a spike in instant messaging scams, causing extensive socio-economic damage with yearly losses exceeding half a trillion US dollars. These scams pose a challenge to the integrity of justice systems worldwide due to their international nature, which complicates legal action. Scams often exploit emotional vulnerabilities, making detection difficult for many. To address this, we introduce ScamGPT-J, a large language model that replicates scammer tactics. Unlike traditional methods that simply detect and block scammers, ScamGPT-J helps users recognize scam interactions by simulating scammer responses in real-time. If a user receives a message that closely matches a ScamGPT-J simulated response, it signals a potential scam, thus helping users identify and avoid scams more effectively. The model\u27s effectiveness is evaluated through technical congruence with scam dialogues and user engagement. Our results show that ScamGPT-J can significantly aid in protecting against messaging scams

Are the Japanese Unique? An Analysis of Consumption and Saving Behavior in Japan

In this paper, I conduct an analysis of consumption and saving behavior in Japan, looking both at trends over time and comparisons with the other industrialized countries. I find that some of the conventional wisdoms (that the Japanese are asset-rich and hold conservative portfolios) still hold but that others (that the Japanese are high savers and shun borrowing) no longer hold and that the Japanese are not unique, with the United States and the other Anglo-Saxon countries being the true exceptions in many respects

‘It felt like there was always someone there for us’:supporting children affected by domestic violence and abuse who are identified by general practice

One in five children in the UK are affected by domestic violence and abuse. However, primary care clinicians (GPs and nurses) struggle to effectively identify and support children and young people living in homes where it is present. The IRIS+ (Enhanced Identification and Referral to Improve Safety) training and advocacy support intervention aimed to improve how clinicians respond to children and young people affected by domestic violence and abuse. IRIS+ training was delivered as part of a feasibility study to four general practices in an urban area in England (UK). Our mixed method design included interviews and questionnaires about the IRIS+ intervention with general practice patients, including children and young people as well as with clinicians and advocacy service providers. We collected the number of identifications and referrals by clinicians of children experiencing domestic violence and abuse through a retrospective search of medical and agency records 10 months after the intervention. Forty-nine children exposed to domestic violence and abuse were recorded in medical records. Thirty-five children were referred to a specialist domestic violence and abuse support service over a period of 10 months. Of these, 22 received direct or indirect support. The qualitative findings indicated that children benefitted from being referred by clinicians to the service. However, several barriers at the patient and professional level prevented children and young people from being identified and supported. Some of these barriers can be addressed through modifications to professional training and guidance, but others require systematic and structural changes to the way health and social care services work with children affected by domestic violence and abuse

Russia’s Legal Transitions: Marxist Theory, Neoclassical Economics and the Rule of Law

We review the role of economic theory in shaping the process of legal change in Russia during the two transitions it experienced during the course of the twentieth century: the transition to a socialist economy organised along the lines of state ownership of the means of production in the 1920s, and the transition to a market economy which occurred after the fall of the Soviet Union in the 1990s. Despite differences in methodology and in policy implications, Marxist theory, dominant in the 1920s, and neoclassical economics, dominant in the 1990s, offered a similarly reductive account of law as subservient to wider economic forces. In both cases, the subordinate place accorded to law undermined the transition process. Although path dependence and history are frequently invoked to explain the limited development of the rule of law in Russia during the 1990s, policy choices driven by a deterministic conception of law and economics also played a role.This is the author accepted manuscript.
