    Control of Optical Dynamic Memory Capacity of an Atomic Bose-Einstein Condensate

    Light storage in an atomic Bose-Einstein condensate is one of the most practical usage of these coherent atom-optical systems. In order to make them even more practical, it is necessary to enhance our ability to inject multiple pulses into the condensate. In this paper, we report that dispersion of pulses injected into the condensate can be compensated by optical nonlinearity. In addition, we will present a brief review of our earlier results in which enhancement of light storage capacity is accomplished by utilizing multi-mode light propagation or choosing an optimal set of experimental parameters.Comment: 4 figures, 11 page

    Lensing and Waveguiding of Ultraslow Pulses in an Atomic Bose-Einstein Condensate

    We investigate lensing and waveguiding properties of an atomic Bose-Einstein condensate for ultraslow pulse generated by electromagnetically induced transparency method. We show that a significant time delay can be controllably introduced between the lensed and guided components of the ultraslow pulse. In addition, we present how the number of guided modes supported by the condensate and the focal length can be controlled by the trap parameters or temperature.Comment: puplished versio

    Effect of Composition on the Spontaneous Emission Probabilities, simulated Emission Cross Sections and Local Environment of Tm+3, in Teo2-Wo3 Glass'

    Cataloged from PDF version of article.Effect of composition on the structure, spontaneous and stimulated emission probabilities of various 1.0 mol% Tm2O3 doped (1 - x)TeO2 + (x)WO3 glasses were investigated using Raman spectroscopy, ultraviolet-visible-near-infrared (UV/VIS/NIR) absorption and luminescence measurements. Absorption measurements in the UV/VIS/NIR region were used to determine spontaneous emission probabilities for the 4f-4f transitions of Tm3+ ions. Six absorption bands corresponding to the absorption of the (1)G(4), F-3(2), F-3(3) and F-3(4), H-3(5) and H-3(4) levels from the H-3(6) ground level were observed. Integrated absorption cross-section of each band except that of H-3(5) level was found to vary with the glass composition. Luminescence spectra of the samples were measured upon 457.9 nm excitation. Three emission bands centered at 476 nm ((1)G(4) --> H-3(6) transition), 651 nm ((1)G(4) --> H-3(4) transition) and 800 nm ((1)G(4) --> H-3(5) transition) were observed. Spontaneous emission cross-sections together with the luminescence spectra measured upon 457.9 nm excitation were used to determine the stimulated emission cross-sections of these emissions. The effect of glass composition on the Judd-Ofelt parameters and therefore on the spontaneous and the stimulated emission cross-sections for the metastable levels of Tm3+ ions were discussed in detail.     Lasing from single, stationary, dye-doped glycerol/water microdroplets located on a superhydrophobic surface

    We report laser emission from single, stationary, Rhodamine B-doped glycerol/water microdroplets located on a superhydrophobic surface. In the experiments, a pulsed, frequency-doubled Nd:YAG laser operating at 532 nm was used as the excitation source. The microdroplets ranged in diameter from a few to 20 um. Lasing was achieved in the red-shifted portion of the dye emission spectrum with threshold fluences as low as 750 J/cm2. Photobleaching was observed when the microdroplets were pumped above threshold. In certain cases, multimode lasing was also observed and attributed to the simultaneous lasing of two modes belonging to different sets of whispering gallery modes.Comment: to appear in Optics Communication

    Blue laser cooling transitions in Tm I

    We have studied possible candidates for laser cooling transitions in 169^{169}Tm in the spectral region 410 -- 420 nm. By means of saturation absorption spectroscopy we have measured the hyperfine structure and rates of two nearly closed cycling transitions from the ground state 4f136s2(2F0)(Jg=7/2)4\textrm{f}^{13}6\textrm{s}^2(^2\textrm{F}_0)(J_g=7/2) to upper states 4f12(3H5)5d3/26s2(Je=9/2)4\textrm{f}^{12}(^3\textrm{H}_5)5\textrm{d}_{3/2}6\textrm{s}^2(J_e=9/2) at 410.6 nm and 4f12(3F4)5d5/26s2(Je=9/2)4\textrm{f}^{12}(^3\textrm{F}_4)5\textrm{d}_{5/2}6\textrm{s}^2(J_e=9/2) at 420.4 nm and evaluated the life times of the excited levels as 15.9(8) ns and 48(6) ns respectively. Decay rates from these levels to neighboring opposite-parity levels are evaluated by means of Hartree-Fock calculations. We conclude, that the strong transition at 410.6 nm has an optical leak rate of less then 21052\cdot10^{-5} and can be used for efficient laser cooling of 169^{169}Tm from a thermal atomic beam. The hyperfine structure of two other even-parity levels which can be excited from the ground state at 409.5 nm and 418.9 nm is also measured by the same technique. In addition we give a calculated value of 7(2)7(2) s1^{-1} for the rate of magnetic-dipole transition at 1.14 μ\mum between the fine structure levels (Jg=7/2)(Jg=5/2)(J_g=7/2)\leftrightarrow(J'_g=5/2) of the ground state which can be considered as a candidate for applications in atomic clocks.Comment: 8 pages, 5 figure

In this study, monthly data of foreigners visiting Turkey were collected between the years 2007 and 2018. The data showed a seasonal behavior with an increasing trend; consequently, two methods were chosen for the study: Holt-Winters (HW) and Seasonal Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average (SARIMA). The objective of the study is to determine the most appropriate forecasting model to achieve a good level of forecasting accuracy. The findings showed that all models provided accurate forecast values according to error measures. However, multiplicative model of HW achieved the highest forecasting accuracy followed by SARIMA and additive HW respectively
