Structural, morphological and dielectrical properties of acorn cupule extract doped hydrogels
Acorn cupule extract doped different hydrogels were prepared to examine their structural morphological and dielectrical properties at room temperature. Structural, morphological and dielectrical parameters for all samples were found by using the XRD, SEM, EDX and impedance spectroscopy. The conductivity, capacitive effect and electronic circuit properties for acorn cupule extract doped hydrogels have not studied before in the literature. Therefore, the complex impedance, capacitance, phase angles, dielectric constant, tangent factor, electric modulus and frequency evolution of ionic conductivity (s -parameters) were successfully analyzed in detail using impedance spectroscopy in the frequency range of 10 2 to 10 7 rad/s at RT. Furthermore, the Cole -Cole plots of the dielectric constant adapted to the Smith chart and general RC equivalent circuit was showed in detail. Relationship between carotid intima-media thickness and coronary angiographic findings: a prospective study
<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Since cardiovascular diseases are associated with high mortality and generally undiagnosed before the onset of clinical findings, there is a need for a reliable tool for early diagnosis. Carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT) is a non-invasive marker of coronary artery disease (CAD) and is widely used in practice as an inexpensive, reliable, and reproducible method. In the current study, we aimed to investigate prospectively the relationship of CIMT with the presence and extent of significant coronary artery narrowing in patients evaluated by coronary angiography for stable angina pectoris.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>One hundred consecutive patients with stable angina pectoris and documented ischemia on a stress test were included in the study. The patients were divided into two groups according to the result of the coronary angiography: group 1 (39 patients) without a noncritical coronary lesion, and group 2 (61 patients) having at least one lesion more than 50% within the main branches of the coronary arteries. All of the patients underwent carotid Doppler ultrasound examination for measurement of the CIMT by a radiologist blinded to the angiographic data.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>The mean CIMT was 0.78 ± 0.21 mm in Group 1, while it was 1.48 ± 0.28 mm in Group 2 (p = 0.001). The mean CIMT in patients with single vessel disease, multi-vessel disease, and left main coronary artery disease were significantly higher compared to Group 1 (1.2 ± 0.34 mm, p = 0.02; 1.6 ± 0.32 mm, p = 0.001; and 1.8 ± 0.31 mm, p = 0.0001, respectively). Logistic regression analysis identified CIMT (OR 4.3, p < 0.001) and hypertension (OR 2.4, p = 0.04) as the most important factors for predicting CAD.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>The findings of this study show that increase in CIMT is associated with the presence and extent of CAD. In conclusion, we demonstrated the usefulness of carotid intima-media thickness in predicting coronary artery disease but large-scale studies are required to define its role in clinical practice.</p
The effects of CDP-choline treatment in Amanita phalloides mushroom toxicosis
Amanita phalloides poisoning is known to be the most fatal case among mushroom poisoning cases. Its main mechanism of toxicity is that it leads to cell death by the irreversible binding of its toxins to the DNA-dependent RNA polymerase II enzyme. This study was planned to analyze the effects of the CDP-choline molecule on Amanita phalloides mushroom poisoning cases. The extract of the Amanita phalloides mushroom was taken and intraperitoneally administered to male Wistar Albino rats at a dose of 0.3 g/kg. In the experiment phase, the rats were divided into three groups of CDP-choline treatment according to the doses of 100 mg/kg, 250 mg/kg, and 500 mg/kg, and one control group was administered a 1 ml/kg dose of 0.9% isotonic NaCl solution. The treatments were then administered intraperitoneally at the 2nd hour, and at the 6th hour, the rats were sacrificed. The degree of damage in the liver and kidney tissues of the rats was evaluated histopathologically. It was concluded that CDP-choline reduced or prevented the damage that occurred in the liver significantly and dose-dependently in the toxicosis picture caused by Amanita phalloides , and it showed a tendency to lower or prevent the damage in the kidney, albeit not significantly

Modeling Pollutant Diffusion in the Ground Using Conformable Fractional Derivative in Spherical Coordinates with Complete Symmetry
The conformal fractional derivative (CFD) has become a hot research topic since it has a physical interpretation and is easier to grasp and apply to problems compared with other fractional derivatives. Its application to heat transfer, diffusion, diffusion-advection, and wave propagation problems can be found in the literature. Fractional diffusion equations have received great attention recently due to their applicability in physical, chemical, and biological processes and engineering. The diffusion of the pollutants within the ground, which is an important environmental problem, can be modeled with a diffusion equation. Diffusion in some porous materials or soil can be modeled more accurately with fractional derivatives or the conformal fractional derivative. In this study, the diffusion problem of a spilled pollutant leaking into the ground modeled with the conformal fractional time derivative in spherical coordinates has been solved analytically using the Fourier series for a constant mass flow rate and complete symmetry under the assumptions of homogeneous and isotropic soil, constant soil temperature, and constant permeability. The solutions have been simulated spatially and in time. A parametric analysis of the problem has been performed for several values of the CFD order. The simulation results are interpreted. It has also been suggested how to find the parameters of the soil to see whether the CFD can be used to model the soil or not. The approach described here can also be used for modeling pollution problems involving different boundary conditions

BRAF mutation, TERT promoter mutation, and HER2 amplification in sporadic or neurofibromatosis-related neurofibromas and malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors: do these molecules have a signature in malignant transformation?
Peripheral nerve sheath tumors may occur sporadically or related to neurofibromatosis (NF). Unless the mechanisms of tumorigenesis in NF related malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors (MPNST) are better understood, it remained unclear in sporadic cases. We aimed to investigate the genetic route for malignancy in both individuals with NF-1 and sporadic ones to open a way for targeted therapies in the future. We investigated the role of HER2 with Dual ISH DNA Probe Cocktail test, BRAF mutation (exon 15) and TERT promoter mutation frequency with Sanger sequencing method in respectively 25 sporadic neurofibromas, 25 NF-1 related neurofibromas and 25 MPNST cases from two institutes. Categorical data were analyzed and summarized as frequency and percentage. Statistical analysis was done with SPSS v.22 statistical package, and the statistical significance level was considered as 0.05. We identified TERT promoter mutation only in one sporadic MPNST (4%) and no BRAF mutation in any case. HER2 amplification is found in 10/25 (40%) MPNST cases. No mutations or gene amplification detected in neurofibromas (p < 0.001). MPNSTs are sarcomas with poor prognosis and limited treatment options.
