He is a graduate of the University of Maiduguri, and has a Bachelor’s degree in Linguistics. He said that his interest in Kanuri Ajami, coupled with his background (being Kanuri himself and a linguist), motivate him to develop a collection of Kanuri Ajami texts. Alhaji Bashir has extensive Islamic knowledge and currently works for the Borno State government. This manuscript is a very short work in Arabic with extensive explicatory glosses in Kanuri Ajami. It has two parts. The first is Shaykh Muḥammad Ṣāliḥ’s work dealing with tawḥīd (oneness of God), the five pillars of Islam, the attributes of Allāh, the articles of faith, and elaborated notes on the characteristics of the Almighty God. The second part of the work deals with anger, anxiety, and depression. It provides words of wisdom on how to manage, control and eradicate these conditions. Both parts (tawḥīd and anger management) are written as poems. It is unclear whether the author of the first part is the same as author of the second part. The manuscript reflects the long history of Islamic scholarship in Kanem-Borno. The manuscript is unbound, complete, easy to read, and has no damaged pages. The total number of pages is only 11.The contents of this collection were developed with support of the Title VI National Resource Center grant # P015A180164 from the U.S. Department of Education. Teaming Strategy Optimization: An Analysis Of NBA Statistics, Shot Charts, And Constraints
In the dynamic realm of NBA team management, balancing the intricacies of player performance and strategic signings present formidable challenges. Negotiating salary caps, player roles, on-court minutes, and contract durations requires a nuanced approach. This study comprehensively evaluated player efficiency and team performance, scrutinizing key statistical indicators like Points, Rebounds, Assists, Blocks, PER, RPM, Shot Charts, and others. Leveraging machine learning algorithms, including logistic, ridge, and lasso regressions, facilitated modeling the intricate relationship between player performance and team winning rates. Based on that, incorporating practical constraints yielded diverse and effective teaming strategies. Analyzing NBA player and game statistics from 2012 to 2022, the experimental findings underscore the accuracy of prediction models and the success of player selection strategies. This research provides actionable insights for NBA franchises seeking to streamline team operations and achieve triumphs on the court.

The Economic Functions of Government Expounded in Al-’Iqtiṣādu’l-’Islāmī of at-Turkī: A Lesson for Policy-Makers in Nigeria
Al-Iqtiṣādu’l-’Islāmī:’Ususun wamabādi’u wa ’ahdāf is one of the classical works written to unveil the system put in place by Islam to regulate the relationship of human beings with one another on the basis of Qur’ān and Sunnah. This paper, therefore, aims at studying one of the chapters of the work that focuses on the economic functions of Islamic government with a view to unfold the tools needed to turn round the economy of Nigeria and accentuate the necessity of formulating robust economic policies that are friendly to the down trodden masses as emphasised in the work. At-Turki, in this work, strived to proffer solution to the economic problems of the world including Nigeria by highlighting the roles anticipated from the progressive government aspiring to attain stable prices, full employment and economic growth. Through phenomenological method, the work observed that the Nigerian government aligned with some of the economic functions of the Islamic government despite the fact that it is a multi-religious nation but the bane experienced in the economy is not unconnected to its failure to key into the functions totally. The work recommends utilisation of the propositions of At-Turki since they are divinely guided and submitted that legalisation of the commodities that are diametrically opposed to the divine Book will recede economic growth

Comparative discourse on Yorùbá concept of spirit-husband and Muslim exorcists’ belief in intermarriage between jinn and man
Inability to find male suitors and barrenness are among the major challenges women are faced with world-wide. Research has identified varying factors that give rise to the challenges as well as corresponding possible solutions. The Yorùbá people of South-West Nigeria, viewing the challenges through spiritual lens, however, sometimes attribute the challenges to the handiwork of spirit husband-a belief somewhat similar to the belief among Muslim exorcists in marital relationship between man and jinn. This study therefore examines and compares the two concepts. Given the relatively unexplored and complex nature of the phenomena, qualitative methodology which allows for in-depth interviews for women believed to be victims of spirit husband as well as Muslim and Yorùbá exorcists is adopted. The result shows the reality of the phenomenon. It also shows some relatedness between the two concepts even when they differ considerably. The result also shows possibility of partial or total deliverance of victims. Keywords: Exorcists, jinn, ọkọ-ợrun, spirit, Intermarriag

The Dynamics of Islamic Law in Times of Crisis: Nigerian Muslims' Perceptions of Socially Distanced Ṣalāh During the Pandemic
This article examines the ethical dilemmas faced by Muslim communities in making Islamic legal (ijtihād) decisions during the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly regarding the suspension of congregational prayers to protect physical health. Focusing on the Muslim community in Nigeria, the study highlights how believers opted to postpone communal worship in mosques to preserve life while continuing individual prayers at home. Using a qualitative approach through literature review, fatwā analysis, and sociological data, the article demonstrates that the protection of life (ḥifẓ al-nafs)—a core objective in maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah—served as the religious justification for prioritizing public health. The findings reveal that Islamic legal ethics are adaptive and contextual, allowing jurisprudential flexibility in times of crisis. The article’s scholarly contribution lies in integrating maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah and Islamic legal ethics with public health principles while offering a sociological perspective on religious behavior during emergencies. It also enriches global discourse on faith-based responses to the pandemic beyond the Middle East and Southeast Asia.
Nigerian University's Islamic Studies Curriculum and Sustainable Development Goals: The Case of the University of Ilorin
The blueprint designed by the world to accomplish a robust sustainable future for all living creatures is referred to as sustainable development goals. The goals, which are seventeen in number, address challenges of the developed and developing countries and aim at improving human welfare and protecting the environment. However, there is no doubt that one of the key objectives of the University education is to integrate sustainability across all programmes for the attainment of the desired goals. Thus, this research examines the Islamic Studies curriculum of the University of Ilorin's academic programme with the objective of identifying its relevance to the actualisation of selected sustainable development goals. The paper adopted a combination of historical and descriptive methods for data collection and data analysis. The findings of the study reveal that the curriculum of Islamic Studies exposes students to the knowledge needed in shaping a sustainable future in the goals discussed and recommends expansion of the curriculum to cover other aspects such as climate change, industrialisation, and well-being
Institutionalization of Ḥisbah: A Means to Achieve Peaceful and Credible Elections in Nigeriaa
The important pillar of the so-called democracy, which is an election, has been violent and marked by problems ranging from rigging, vote buying, illegal printing of voters’ cards, illegal possession of ballot boxes, stuffing of ballot boxes, underage voting, and falsification of election results to manipulation of results in Nigeria. Thus, the Nigerian experience with elections since independence has been quite challenging despite that conduct of elections is the only acceptable means through which the citizens of a democratic country can choose their representatives. This paper therefore appraises one of the important institutions introduced by Islam to cater to the promotion of good and prohibition of evil (ḥisbah) in society with a view to underline the importance of its institutionalization to stem the menace of electoral malpractices in Nigeria. The reason is that the institution of ḥisbah was successfully deployed during the classical periods of Islam to arrest cases of cheating in the marketplaces as well as the public dispositions. The study employs a qualitative research methodology based on literature review. Data collected from a variety of books, periodicals, and other sources, were then subjected to analysis. The findings of the study reveal that the electoral malpractices that characterized the past elections will be overcome and credible elections will be achieved if ḥisbah is institutionalized in the country. It concludes that the advocacy for its introduction in Nigeria is not an attempt to Islamize the country but a yearning call for the injection of an efficient institution that can change the narrative of electoral fraud in Nigeria as it was practiced in the Northern part of the country before its colonization.
