Numerous studies have been conducted by researchers who are either academicians or practitioners to understand the factors that contribute to the effectiveness of the military leaders in the United Nations‟ peacekeeping missions. However, little is known about the determinants of a military leader‟s adaptive performance in the United Nations missions. Hence a gap remains in the literature. This study fills the gap by examining the relationships that exist between cross-cultural competence, human resource management practices, cross-cultural adjustment and adaptive performance by using a sample of 279 Jordanian military leaders who participated in the United Nations missions. Data was collected using the survey method. The five research questions and the seven research objectives of the study were addressed by performing appropriate descriptive and inferential statistical analyses. The Partial Least Squares Method (PLS) algorithm and the bootstrap techniques were used to test the hypotheses. The findings revealed that there is a significant positive relationship between (a) cross-cultural competence and psychological adjustment, (b) cross- cultural competence and adaptive performance, (c) human resource management practices and psychological adjustment, (d) cross-cultural competences and socio-cultural adjustment, (e) human resource management practices and adaptive performance and (f) psychological and socio-cultural adjustment and adaptive performance. The findings imply that cultural intelligence, emotional intelligence, selection and training are significant in predicting psychological adjustment and adaptive performance among military leaders in the United Nations peacekeeping missions. Moreover, the findings of this study reveal that psychological adjustment mediates the relationship between cross-cultural competence and adaptive performance, implying that cross-cultural competence is related to adaptive performance indirectly, mediated through psychological adjustment. The mediating role played by psychological adjustment helps to explain the underlying process that is responsible for the relationship between cross-cultural competence and adaptive performance of military leaders. The findings of this study have significantly contributed to the advancement of knowledge in the field of cross-cultural management as evidenced by the fact that cross-cultural competence and human resource management factors are vital to facilitate a military leader‟s psychological adjustment and adaptive performance in the United Nations‟ mission

The present study aimed to explore the reality of the obstacles facing the vocational education (VE) teachers in public primary schools in Jordan from the perspective of those teachers. The researcher selected a sample consisting from 100 vocational education teachers. Those teachers were selected from the public primary schools in Jordan. The researcher developed a two part questionnaire. The first part collects demographic data from the respondents (i.e. gender and years of experience). The second part sheds a light on the obstacles facing the vocational education teachers. The examined obstacles include the obstacles related to (infrastructure, tools & equipment, and the apparatus of occupational safety and health). It was found that the severity of the obstacles facing the vocational education teachers in public primary schools in Jordan is low from the perspective of those teachers. It was found that there isn’t any statistically significant difference between the respondents’ attitudes in this regard which can be attributed to (gender or years of experience). Several recommendations are proposed. For instance, the researcher recommends exerting effort by the Jordanian Ministry of Education to increase the level of occupational security and safety inside the workshops that are designated for the vocational education course. That can be done through providing these workshops with the necessary equipment that can raise the level of occupational security and safety. Due to its flexibility, accessibility and the increasing importance of digital literacy, online learning has gained priority in the last few years. However, several challenges have led students to resist it. Predicting students’ attitudes towards online learning could assist educators and educational institutions in addressing these challenges and enhancing its effectiveness. This paper presents a Learning Attitude Prediction Model (LAPM) that can detect students’ attitudes from their informal Arabic texts. To generate the desired LAPM, five machine learning algorithms and three different approaches for text representation are employed. In addition, handling stop words is another important issue when dealing with informal Arabic text. Two scenarios are commonly adopted: preserving and eliminating stop words. The best result was obtained when using a support vector machine (SVM) classifier coupled with the term frequency-inverse document frequency (TF-IDF) approach and preserving stop-words, achieving an F1-score of 85.4%. Therefore, an effective LAPM could be developed to predict students’ attitudes. Using LAPM, educators and educational institutions can monitor students’ attitudes toward online learning and provide personalized support to individual students. Consequently, an enhancement in student satisfaction and an improvement in academic achievement could be achieved

    Get PDF
Cyberloafing, or the use of the internet in the workplace for non-work-related purposes, is an increasingly common problem in the field of professional development. Nurses face a variety of stressors, including workload and patient conflict, which can negatively affect their emotional wellbeing. While cyberloafing may provide some temporary relief, widespread use could lead to reduced productivity and increased disease transmission. This study aims to examine the impact of cyberloafing on the nurse’s emotional wellbeing in Saudi Arabia. A cross-sectional study will be conducted among about 200 psychiatric nurses, randomly selected from mental health hospitals in Saudi Arabia using sample size equation based on the expected cyberloafing prevalence from the similar study. Data will be collected using self-reported questionnaire including demographic and professional characteristics, Cyberloafing Scale and Positive and Negative Affect Schedule - Short Form (PANAS-SF). Data will be analyzed using SPSS version 28.0. Ethical issues will be considered. The study is expected to demonstrate that moderate levels of cyberloafing may be relieving in the short term, whereas excessive use may be associated with greater distress and dissatisfaction with the job. The findings will inform workplace policies on preventing cyberloafing and emphasize the relationship between nurses’ emotional wellbeing

The present study aimed to identify the occupational stress level of occupational education female and male teachers. It also aimed to identify whether there is any difference between the respondents’ occupational stress levels which can be attributed to their (gender, experience or school stage). The study’s population consists from all the all the occupational education female and male teachers who work at the public schools affiliated with the first and second directorates of education in Irbid (i.e. 320 teachers). As forthe sample, it consists from 100female and male teachers. Those teachers were selected through using the random stratified sampling method. Those teachers were selected from the public schools affiliated with the first and second directorates of education in Irbid. The researchers chose a descriptive survey research design. They developed an instrument (i.e. a questionnaire) for measuring the occupational stress level of teachers. It was found that the occupational stress level of the occupational education female and male teachers is high. It was found that there is a statistically significant difference between the respondents’ occupational stress levels which can be attributed to gender. The latter difference is for the favor of males. It was found that there is a statistically significant difference between the respondents’ occupational stress levels which can be attributed to experience. The latter difference is for the favor of the ones who possess moderate experience. It was found that there is a statistically significant difference between the respondents’ occupational stress levels which can be attributed to the school stage. The latter difference is for the favor of the lower primary teachers. In the light of the aforementioned results, the researchers rec-ommend exerting effort to reduce the occupational stress level of occupational education female and male teachers. Such efforts include creating convenient psychological and occupational environments. The researchers also recommend providing the lower primary teachers with attention by the Ministry of Education in Jordan. That can be done through providing those teachers with training & development programs. That can be also done through raising their socio-eco-nomic levels and providing them with financial & moral incentives & rewards
