Evaluation of the probing profile of scanning force microscopy tips
It is demonstrated that a high-temperature-treated (305) surface of a SrTiO3 crystal can be used to evaluate the probing profile of AFM tips routinely, to provide a means of selecting perfect tips and to evaluate possible image distortions. This is important in order to recognize typical AFM artifacts which are caused by tips with truncated or twinned peaks which occur rather often in the case of microfabricated AFM needles. By means of selected needles, it is shown that also defective tips can give apparently rather perfect atomic resolution from flat crystal surfaces. Scope and limitations of the resolution of structural defects are discussed as the criterion for real atomic resolution
A scanning force microscopy study on the morphology of elastomer-coagent blends
Atomic force scanning microscopy (AFM) was used to investigate the dispersion of low molecular weight compounds in ethylene-propylene copolymers (EPM). Where other microscopical techniques failed to provide morphological details of this type of blend, as a result of the restricted resolution (light microscopy) or the volatility of the low molecular weight component (SEM), the AFM technique provided surface images, which show inclusions in the matrix of the uncrosslinked polymers
R-functions in Development of Analytical Identification of Geometrical Objects
In this paper for mathematical and computer modeling of fractal geometry objects, machine parts and building
structure the R-functions theory is applied. The mathematical tools of the R-functions theory are very
convenient for the fractal geometry objects description. The equations of the Levi fractal, Pythagoras's tree,
Koch's curve, cross and snowflake, Menger's sponge (also known as the Menger universal curve), Sierpinski's
carpet, etc. have been constructed. The techniques using both the equations of three-dimensional primitives,
and information about the equations of boundaries of sections of reset object have been developed. The
equations of the automobile body surface, the bearing sleeve, the stepped shaft having two cogged pulleys, the
rotary valve, the revolver drum, the screw having the shaped head, cut and lock surface, the cutter lift, the oil
filter arm, etc. were constructed. The equations of the hexahedral cartridge having 91 fuel elements have been
constructed using only two R-operations
In the present work, a study of composite filaments "ABS-carbon fiber" with a carbon fiber content of up to 10% by weight is made. The macrostructure of the filaments is studied, in particular, the greatest attention is paid to the study of fiber orientation in the filament volume. Technological features of the process of composite filament preparation are described, the most optimal scheme of filament production is given, besides the optimal technology of carbon fiber preparation for introduction into the composite is described
Highly oriented poly(di-n-alkylsilylene) films on oriented PTFE substrates
Highly oriented polysilylene layers have potential applications in electrophotography, nonlinear optics, display fabrication, and microlithography. The preparation of such layers by crystallization on a highly oriented PTFE substrate is reported, and their assessment by optical birefringence, electron diffraction and dichroic infrared experiments described. Why this orientation technique works is not yet clear, especially as it can be applied to poly(di-n-alkylsilylen)s with different crystal structures. Several possible underlying mechanisms are discussed
Folding of a donor–acceptor polyrotaxane by using noncovalent bonding interactions
Mechanically interlocked compounds, such as bistable catenanes and bistable rotaxanes, have been used to bring about actuation in nanoelectromechanical systems (NEMS) and molecular electronic devices (MEDs). The elaboration of the structural features of such rotaxanes into macromolecular materials might allow the utilization of molecular motion to impact their bulk properties. We report here the synthesis and characterization of polymers that contain π electron-donating 1,5-dioxynaphthalene (DNP) units encircled by cyclobis(paraquat-p-phenylene) (CBPQT4+), a π electron-accepting tetracationic cyclophane, synthesized by using the copper(I)-catalyzed azide-alkyne cycloaddition (CuAAC). The polyrotaxanes adopt a well defined “folded” secondary structure by virtue of the judicious design of two DNP-containing monomers with different binding affinities for CBPQT4+. This efficient approach to the preparation of polyrotaxanes, taken alongside the initial investigations of their chemical properties, sets the stage for the preparation of a previously undescribed class of macromolecular architectures
From the Autonomy of Politics to the Autonomy of the Political
The article investigates both social and scientific processes that led to an emergence of a notion ‘the
political’ and its establishment as an accepted within the political science. The main attention is devoted to
theories by Jürgen Habermas, Niklas Luhmann, and Ulrich Beck
The article is devoted to the topical issue of the correlation between security and freedom which became
even more acute after acts of terrorism in Paris in 2015. Such a correlation is studied in the theories of
Thomas Hobbes, John Locke, and John Stuart Mill that are of a high importance for liberal thought. It is
argued that although these thinkers devoted considerable attention to formulate a principle of liberty, a
principle of security was of a higher importance to them
