Development of mobile CT unit for lung cancer screening

Recently, the highest mortality from male cancers in Japan has been from lung cancers. We have been actively using the mobile CT unit to establish and effective diagnostic system for detection of lung cancers at an early stage. We have so far developed two vehicles: the first model made in November 1994 and the second in March 1996. This paper describes tha specification of a vehicle and spiral CT installed on it, radiographic conditions for lung cancer screening, the results of estimation of hte exposure dose, riskbenefit analysis, and the present situation of application of the mobile CT unit
