3D Scene Annotation for Efficient Rendering on Mobile Devices

    Get PDF
This paper presents a new approach for efficient 3D rendering on mobile devices, where selective rendering can be achieved with the help of 3D scene annotation. By taking advantage of first person environments in most 3D applications, we are able to annotate the flooring details of the 3D space. This allows 3D environments to be interfaced using a higher level view of objects. With the higher level of scene understanding, it is possible to determine which 3D objects are not required for loading or rendering based on the viewer’s location and its surrounding constraints

Objective: Heavy metal contamination on water, soil, crops and including to the other living organisms, including their effects on DNA mutation in abandoned mine is highlighted in this study Methodology: In this study, 6 toxic metals, Zn, Pb, Fe, Cd, Cr and Mn in Nepenthes plants at an abandoned copper mine site were investigated. A total of 20 Nepenthes plants were collected from different sites of the abandoned mine. Metal concentration was determined using the Inductively Coupled Plasma/Optical Emission Spectrometry (ICP/OES) technique and electrophoresis gel and Inter Simple Sequence Repeat (ISSR) amplification processes for DNA mutation analysis. The total concentration trend of metal concentrations recorded with Cu (up to 88.797 mg kg–1)>Mn (39.018 mg kg–1)>Zn (30.260 mg kg–1)>Pb (8.206 mg kg–1)>Cd (0.168 mg kg–1). Results: The results also showed that concentration of heavy metals in Nepenthes plants collected from the abandoned mine were much higher than in control plants. However, the concentrations were still under the tolerance limit of heavy metals in plants except for Cu concentration. Besides, the concentration of heavy metals generally is higher in the flowers of the plants. For DNA analysis, based on the image obtained the result showed the DNA bands were located at the same location with the control Nepenthes which indicated there is no mutation occurred for the Nepenthes collected from the abandoned mine. Conclusion: From the result it is suggested that pitcher plant such Nepenthes may act as a potential phytoextraction of heavy metal from contaminated soil or water compounds at the abandoned mine

Introduction:Laboratory workers are exposed to variety of hazards that may affect their health and safety. Awareness of occupational safety and health (OSH) is important in preventing occupational injuries and diseases. The objective of this study was to assess the knowledge of OSH among laboratory workers in Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences and Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Universiti Putra Malaysia. Methods:A cross-sectional study was conducted on laboratory workers in the two faculties in Universiti Putra Malaysia.A pretested, self-administered questionnaire comprising of 5 sections including socio-demographic, OSH environment of the laboratory, exposure to the knowledge of OSH, knowledge of OSH and attitude of laboratory workers in the laboratory was distributed to all registered permanent laboratory workers in the faculties. Data entry and analysis was done using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 18.Descriptive statistics on socio-demography and job factors were determined. Independent t-test and chi-squared test were used to test associations. Correlation between attitude and knowledge on OSH was computed. Results: The response rate was 64.42% (67 laboratory workers). The overall level of knowledge on OSH was moderate, with a mean score of 62%. A larger proportion of female respondents (51.5%) showed good OSH knowledge compared to male respondents (14.7%) and the difference was statistically significant (10.288, 1; p<0.01). Majority of the respondents (73.7%) who worked in a poor OSH laboratory environment had poor attitude level towards OSH (χ2=7.135, df=1; p=0.008). There was a moderate positive correlation between knowledge and attitude on OSH (r=0.4, p<0.01). Knowledge explains 16% of the variance in level of attitude towards OSH among laboratory workers. Conclusion: Knowledge of OSH among laboratory workers was moderate and is associated with gender and OSH environment in the workplace. A greater effort to promote OSH knowledge among the laboratory workers is needed to ensure their safety and health in workplace

The use of embedded microcontrollers in the design of a low-cost industrial robot

Embedded microcontrollers were used to control the X-Y (or horizontal) motions of a high-speed, low-cost industrial robot. The design and implementation were based on the Intel 8031 (the ROMless version of the Intel 8051) microcomputer. The X-Y or horizontal motions of the robot were accomplished by using four four-phase stepper-motors (two for each axis). Two microcontrollers, one for each axis, were used to step and control the stepper-motors. An IBM PC/AT was used as the main system controller, which transmits both data and instructions to the microcontrollers. A twisted pair was used to establish the serial communications between the IBM PC/AT and the microcontrollers. The communication protocol that was chosen uses the built-in serial communication feature of the Intel 8031. A user-friendly BASIC program was written to allow the robot user to download data and send instructions to the microcontroller of the robot system. However, assembly language routines, to be called by the main program, were necessary in order to transmit data in the nine-bit format required by the serial communication mode of the microcontrollers. A second BASIC program was written to convert informations, entered into the IBM PC/AT by the user as moves or tasks for the robot, into move data for the X and Y microcontrollers. A third BASIC program was also written to convert acceleration and deceleration profiles of the stepper-motors into ramp-up and ramp-down data for the Intel 8031 microcontrollers

THE ANOMALOUS DIFFUSION IN HIGH MAGNETIC FIELD AND THE QUASIPARTICLE DENSITY OF STATES

We consider a disordered two-dimensional electronic system in the limit of high magnetic field at the metal-insulator transition. Density of states close to the Fermi level acquires a divergent correction to the lowest order in electron-electron interaction and shows a new power-law dependence on the energy, with the power given by the anomalous diffusion exponent η\eta. This should be observable in the tunneling experiment with double-well GaAs heterostructure of the mobility 104V/s\propto 10^{4}V/s at temperatures of 10mK\propto 10 mK and voltages of 1μV\propto 1 \mu V.Comment: 12 pages, LATEX, one figure available at request, accepted for publication in Phys.
