Handwriting : an instrument of understanding and empathy
Relationships between teacher and student can be improved by a new way
of approaching the world of teenagers by using graphological techniques which allow a
better comprehension of the teenagers’ psychological points of view. Through the science
of graphology which examines handwritten texts, the characteristics of the personality
and the attitudes of the writer can be recognized. This method is essentially based on
a psychological rule which says that every unconscious or conscious psychological
content becomes manifest through some kind of expression. It provides useful tools
for improving the teachers’ abilities to listen and to understand their students properly.peer-reviewe
Far infra-red emission lines in high redshift quasars
We present Plateau de Bure Interferometer observations of far infra-red
emission lines in BRI 0952-0115, a lensed quasar at z=4.4 powered by a
super-massive black hole (M_BH=2x10^9 M_sun). In this source, the resolved map
of the [CII] emission at 158 micron allows us to reveal the presence of a
companion galaxy, located at \sim 10 kpc from the quasar, undetected in optical
observations. From the CO(5-4) emission line properties we infer a stellar mass
M*<2.2x10^10 M_sun, which is significantly smaller than the one found in local
galaxies hosting black holes with similar masses (M* \sim 10^12 M_sun). The
detection of the [NII] emission at 205 micron suggests that the metallicity in
BRI 0952-0115 is consistent with solar, implying that the chemical evolution
has progressed very rapidly in this system. We also present PdBI observations
of the [CII] emission line in SDSSJ1148+5251, one of the most distant quasar
known, at z=6.4. We detect broad wings in the [CII] emission line, indicative
of gas which is outflowing from the host galaxy. In particular, the extent of
the wings, and the size of the [CII] emitting region associated to them, are
indicative of a quasar-driven massive outflow with the highest outflow rate
ever found (dM/dt>3500 M_sun/yr).Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures, proceedings of the NRAO meeting: The Interstellar

Measuring the vitality and effectiveness within social sciences and humanities research. an attempt in Italian LIS studies
This study constitutes the beginning of a PhD research in Library and information science at Sapienza University of Rome, aimed at investigating the level of internationalisation, vitality and effectivenessof Italian Library and information studies.
The paper describes the methodology of search in international citational database, Web of science and Scopus, and in Google scholar for any scholarly work published by Italian LIS tenured researchers and university professors.
The results in WoS and Scopus are illustrated and compared with a first collection of data within Italian similar field of Social sciences and humanities (SSH).
The reliability of the data collected in citation database within the areas of Social sciences and humanities and their significance are limited; also the comparison with Italian historical and paleographic fields seems to confirms that a substantial impact of SSH non-Anglophone scientific production within citational database is influenced by a number of factors (number of indexed core journals, language of publication, level of coverage of journals, etc.).
On the other hand, Google scholar could be a valuable tool for humanistic fields, but it is necessary to deal with the comple
xity of the analysis and the problems of homonyms.
Therefore, these first research results made it clear that, in order to investigate the presence and impact of Italian LIS studies, a correct use and organization of quantitative data is essential
Nanoparticles of transition metals oxides with application potential
We present summary of the most used preparation methods and physical properties of transition metal-based nanoparticles. The physical properties of the nanoparticles can be controlled by particle shape and size that can be affected by conditions of preparation. We mainly described the sol-gel method, co-precipitation and microemulsions method. We summarized physical properties of ZrO2, TiO2 and CoFe2O4 with respect to their possible application. A series of the cobalt ferrite nanoparticles embedded in silica matrix, obtained by modified sol-gel route, was characterized using X-ray diffraction and ICP-OES. We determined the particle diameter and compared them to the final annealing temperature.Ústav aplikované matematiky a fyzikyDokončená práce s úspěšnou obhajobo
Search for new particles at CDFII
We report on the first results from the CDF experiment on search for physics
beyond the Standard Model using data from the upgraded TeVatron collider
running collisions at = 1960 GeV. These first results,
although obtained with a total integrated luminosity lower than the total
integrated luminosity collected during Run I, are already competitive if not
better, due to the increase in the center of mass energy and the improved
detector capability.Comment: writeup of the talk given at XXXVIIIth Rencontres de Moriond on
