У статті розглянуто результати предметно-орієнтованого пошуку й аналізу інформації про стан української академічної науки, її головні проблеми, вирішення яких дозволить підвищити ефективність науково-технічної та інноваційної діяльності в країні. Для більшої наочності основні показники української науки наведено в динаміці на тлі аналогічних показників світової науки. Матеріал ґрунтується на власних розробках відділу економічних досліджень Інституту електрозварювання ім. Є.О. Патона НАН України, а також на публікаціях у вітчизняних і зарубіжних засобах масової інформації, Інтернеті та на офіційних документах (або їх проектах) за тематикою дослідження

An Evaluation of the Parallel Shift-and-Invert Lanczos Methody

Abstract When the Lanczos method is used to compute eigenvalues, it is often restarted or used with the shift-and-invert scheme. The restarted scheme usually uses less memory but the shift-andinvert scheme is more robust. In addition, the shiftand-invert Lanczos method requires accurate solutions of a series of linear systems. Parallel software packages suitable for these linear systems are only started to become available. In this talk, we will present our evaluation of two such packages and briefly exam when it is necessary to use the shiftand-invert scheme

The Costa Rican Biological Sciences Olympics and their Role in the National Educational Community through the Integration of Competition, Sharing, Living and Learning

La apertura en Costa Rica de un espacio de sana competencia cognitiva en el ámbito de las Ciencias Biológicas, responde a una necesidad educativa y social. Esta actividad ha incrementado, año tras año, el interés de los jóvenes en el país y el de sus profesores en la profundización conceptual del campo biológico, a través de la organización de espacios de reflexión, profundización y reflexión conceptual durante el desarrollo de las clases, talleres, capacitaciones y encuentros de debate académico. La actividad es respaldada por distintas entidades gubernamentales, colegios profesionales e instituciones privadas. Los objetivos de este proyecto de extensión son potenciar a los estudiantes en el desarrollo de sus destrezas y habilidades cognitivas y actitudinales, y generar espacios de actualización profesional en los profesores tutores. Así se promueve la aplicación de aspectos procedimentales, conceptuales y actitudinales en su labor docente. En este trabajo se procura evidenciar estos fines.The opening in Costa Rica of a fair cognitive competition in the field of biological sciences responds to educational and social needs. This activity has increased year by year the interest of youth all over the country and of their teachers in the conceptual understanding of the biological field, through the organization of spaces for reflection, deepening and conceptual thinking during the development of classes, workshops, trainings and academic debates. The activity is supported by various government agencies, professional associations and private institutions. The objectives of this project are to enhance students in developing their abilities, cognitive skills and attitudes and to create opportunities for professional development in tutor teachers, promoting the implementation of procedural, conceptual and attitudinal aspects in their teaching.
