Nearly a decade ago, the waste management company Ragn-Sells expanded their core business to also include manned goods reception and internal logistics in commercial buildings. The incentive for the expansion came from the commercial building Gallerian, which during that time neither had manned goods reception nor centralized waste management, and offered Ragn-Sells to be in charge of combining these services. The service has since then spread to other commercial buildings in the Stockholm area but the progress have not been documented and followed up. The purpose with this study was to investigate the potential benefits, regarding process efficiency and environmental impact, that can be achieved when integrating and centralizing logistics and waste management operations in commercial buildings in Stockholm. The process was studied by investigating the service operated at Gallerian. Quantitative data was collected through structured observations while qualitative data was collected through observations and interviews with identified stakeholders. The data was used to model and simulate possible scenarios. The results show that the main benefit with the process is reduced queues, which further results in time savings and reduced emissions. When logistics and waste management are combined, the main identified benefit is the ability to streamline the process as the number of involved stakeholders is reduced. Asymptotic expansion for reversible A + B <-> C reaction-diffusion process
We study long-time properties of reversible reaction-diffusion systems of
type A + B C by means of perturbation expansion in powers of 1/t (inverse
of time). For the case of equal diffusion coefficients we present exact
formulas for the asymptotic forms of reactant concentrations and a complete,
recursive expression for an arbitrary term of the expansions. Taking an
appropriate limit we show that by studying reversible reactions one can obtain
"singular" solutions typical of irreversible reactions.Comment: 6 pages, no figures, to appear in PR
Diffusion-controlled annihilation with initially separated reactants: The death of an particle island in the particle sea
We consider the diffusion-controlled annihilation dynamics with
equal species diffusivities in the system where an island of particles is
surrounded by the uniform sea of particles . We show that once the initial
number of particles in the island is large enough, then at any system's
dimensionality the death of the majority of particles occurs in the {\it
universal scaling regime} within which of the particles die at
the island expansion stage and the remaining at the stage of its
subsequent contraction. In the quasistatic approximation the scaling of the
reaction zone has been obtained for the cases of mean-field ()
and fluctuation () dynamics of the front.Comment: 4 RevTex pages, 1 PNG figure and 1 EPS figur
Transplantes de sub-unidades musculares na reanimação facial
PURPOSE: To present an alternative technique for reconstruction of musculocutaneous damages in the face transferring innervated subsegments(subunits) of the latissimus dorsi flap for replacement of various facial mimetic muscles. METHODS: One clinical case of trauma with skin and mimetic muscles damage is described as an example of the technique. The treatment was performed with microsurgical transfer of latissimus dorsi muscle subunits. Each subunit present shape and dimensions of the respective mimetic muscles replaced. The origin, insertions and force vectors for the mimicmuscle lost were considered. Each subsegment has its own arterial and venous supply with a motor nerve component for the muscular unit. RESULTS: Pre and one year postoperative photos registration of static and dynamic mimic aspects, as well as digital electromyography digital data of the patients were compared. The transplanted muscular units presented myoeletric activity, fulfilling both the functional and cosmetic aspect. CONCLUSION: This technique seems to be a promising way to deal with the complex musculocutaneous losses of the face as well as facial palsy.OBJETIVO: Apresentar uma alternativa técnica para reconstrução de perdas músculo-cutâneas na face com a transferência de sub-segmentos(sub-unidades) inervados do músculo grande dorsal para a substituição dos diversos músculos da mímica facial. Souza Aguiar City HospitalFederal University of São Paulo Plastic Surgery DivisionSouza Aguiar City Hospital Reconstructive Microsurgery DivisionFluminense Federal University Plastic Surgery DivisionUNIFESP, Plastic Surgery DivisionSciEL
Contribution of a time-dependent metric on the dynamics of an interface between two immiscible electro-magnetically controllable Fluids
We consider the case of a deformable material interface between two
immiscible moving media, both of them being magnetiable. The time dependence of
the metric at the interface introduces a non linear term, proportional to the
mean curvature, in the surface dynamical equations of mass momentum and angular
momentum. We take into account the effects of that term also in the singular
magnetic and electric fields inside the interface which lead to the existence
of currents and charges densities through the interface, from the derivation of
the Maxwell equations inside both bulks and the interface. Also, we give the
expression for the entropy production and of the different thermo-dynamical
fluxes. Our results enlarge previous results from other theories where the
specific role of the time dependent surface metric was insufficiently stressed.Comment: 25 page
Mapping the Paradigms of Brazilian Social Thought
One of the most constant traits in the intellectuals responsible for the history of Brazilian social thought in modern times is their attraction to the study of their own society. It is possible to identify in the historiography of Brazilian social thought, three great ruptures through which new ways of defining the country’s formation were introduced. Bearing in mind that this is not a strict and rigid period division, but one based on emphasis, we could name the first of these three periods as that of race, which comes up around the 1870’s; the second one, could be called the period of culture, placed around the 1930’s; and the last one, that of social frame, emerging around the 1950’s. This history of Brazilian social thought changed its course around the 1980’s. It is possible to detect at that moment a change in focus for Brazil; some kind of transition from a perspective that favoured territorial or stratal integration to a growing emphasis on cultural integration. Since then we can see the emergence of new themes, objects and approaches also within the field of Brazilian social thought. The inclusion of new participants in the dialogue that was being carried out was to give rise to unexpected effects
