Coagulation time detection by means of a real-time image processing

Several techniques for semi-automatic or automatic detection of coagulation time in blood or in plasma analysis are available in the literature. However, these techniques are either complex and demand for specialized equipment, or allow the analysis of very few samples in parallel. In this paper a new system based on computer vision is presented. An easy image processing algorithm has been developed, which leads to an accurate estimation of the coagulation time of several samples in parallel. Sistema adaptativo no lineal

In this paper, we present a method to correct the amplitud distorsion produced by a non linear system. First of all it is shown how this correction can be achieved making use of a least square error criterium by means of a polynomical function. An adaptive method is also studied and a discussion of the convergence condition is made. La Lectoescritura en alumnos de primer ciclo de Educación Básica del Centro Escolar Católico Madre María Catarina Di Maggio

Esta investigación monográfica se ha realizado con el objetivo de indagar las características generales del proceso de enseñanza-aprendizaje de la lectoescritura en alumnos de primer ciclo de educación básica de la escuela pública salvadoreña. A partir de esta investigación se logran determinar los principales métodos de enseñanza-aprendizaje de la lectoescritura , los factores que determinan la adquisición de la misma, los antecedentes históricos de la lectoescritura en El Salvador, las prácticas educativas que desarrollan los docentes, las condiciones pedagógicas del aula y las formas de evaluación de las competencias lectoescritoras; su importancia consiste en que el proceso de educación elemental coincide con la etapa del desarrollo humano en la cual los individuos adquieren y desarrollan habilidades cognitivas, sensoriales, de lenguaje y motoras. Por lo anteriormente expuesto, es crucial conocer las principales dificultades de aprendizaje asociadas a la correcta adquisición del proceso de lectoescritura; en este caso conocer la etiología, criterios diagnósticos y formas de evaluación de la dislexia y disgrafía facilitará al profesional la elaboración de un protocolo de intervención psicopedagógica con orientaciones metodológicas oportunas y exitosas.Monografía presentada para optar al título de Licenciado en Psicologí

The UPC Text-to-Speech System for Spanish and Catalan

This paper summarizes the text-to-speech system that has been developed in the Speech Group of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC). The system is composed of a core and different interfaces so that it is compatible for research, for telephone applications (either CTI boards or standard ISDN PC cards supporting CAPI), and Windows applications developed using Microsoft SAPI. The paper reviews the system making emphasis in the parts of the system which are language dependent and which allow the reading of bilingual text (Spanish and Catalan). The paper also presents new approaches in prosodic modeling (segmental duration modeling) and generation of the database of speech segments, which have been introduced last year.Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version

A correct choice of voice signal modeling methods is essential to obtain good results in automatic speech recognition. In this paper, we have proposed a unified view of the speech parametrization stage, in which conventional techniques as Linear Prediction Coeficientes and mel-cepstrum filter bank are viewed as particular cases. A bilingual Spanish-Catalan database of units for concatenative synthesis

Different databases of phonetic units are required in multilingual Text-to-Speech systems based on concatenative synthesis. We are currently developing a TTS system able to convert text either in Catalan and Spanish, with some of the modules being used indistinctly by the two languages while others are specific to each language. In order to reduce the total amount of units, a bilingual database has been obtained from two monolingual databases recorded by the same speaker, which contains all possible units for both languages. Common units have been selected according to their phonetic representation. The bilingual database has 1099 units, including diphones and some long units, while the two monolingual databases would result in 1545 units. An analysis of Catalan unit frequencies has been done to select what units should be included in the database. The experiments carried out showed that that synthetic speech has a strong Catalan accent, probably due to the speaker's accent. Some common units, even if they are represented with the same symbol, should be considered separately in a bilingual database in order to cope with acoustically different allophones.Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version
