All Politics is Local: The Renminbi's Prospects as a Future Global Currency
. In this article we describe methods for improving the RWTH German speech recognizer used within the VERBMOBIL project. In particular, we present acceleration methods for the search based on both within-word and across-word phoneme models. We also study incremental methods to reduce the response time of the online speech recognizer. Finally, we present experimental off-line results for the three VERBMOBIL scenarios. We report on word error rates and real-time factors for both speaker independent and speaker dependent recognition. 1 Introduction The goal of the VERBMOBIL project is to develop a speech-to-speech translation system that performs close to real-time. In this system, speech recognition is followed by subsequent VERBMOBIL modules (like syntactic analysis and translation) which depend on the recognition result. Therefore, in this application it is particularly important to keep the recognition time as short as possible. There are VERBMOBIL modules which are capable to work ..
The phenology of Cydia succedana on gorse in Canterbury
The phenology of Cydia succedana, an introduced seed-feeder of Ulex europaeus, was investigated. Pheromone traps were set out at McLeans Island, Christchurch, a warm, lowland site and Hinewai Reserve, Banks Peninsula, a cool, upland site, to observe the phenology of C. succedana at two different altitudes and climatic conditions. Moth populations were estimated by the mean number of male moths caught in the traps. The phenology of C. succedana was synchronised with the first U. europaeus flowering in spring-summer. Significantly more male moths were captured at McLeans Island from October 2002 to February 2003.C. Roadside behaviour of Porphyrio porphyrio melanotus (Aves: Rallidae)
The pukeko, or purple swamphen (Porphyrio porphyrio melanotus), commonly uses road margins throughout New Zealand, increasing the risk of road-induced mortality. We examined whether pukeko were exploiting the roadside as a resource. Potential resources on the roadside included food (e.g. new grass shoots and invertebrates), grit, and open areas for social behaviour. Using behavioral observations and the contents of gizzards and crops, we found evidence consistent with foraging (but not necessarily on invertebrates), and grit collection. There also appeared to be a strong social component. We examined the effect of roadside resource use on the ecology of pukeko
Strategic Approach of Finnish Companies entering the Cameroonian Market: Factors affecting the selection of entry mode.
There are many challenges for successful entry of Western companies into Cameroon. On the other hand, Cameroon is endowed with natural resources, has a developing economy and companies that are interested in investing in Cameroon should understand the factors that have an effect on the entry mode choice. Therefore the main objective of this thesis was to support Finnish companies to enter the Cameroonian market successfully. An integrated survey of literature in combination with empirical research was employed. The thesis further identifies the major factors that have an effect on the decision of Finnish companies to enter Cameroon. The strategies of two Finnish companies that have entered the Cameroonian market successfully were analysed and it was found that:
Both companies based their market entry strategy into Cameroon on their strengths
They employed wholly owned subsidiary as a mode of entry in to the Cameroonian market.
Furthermore, the factors that have an impact on the selection of an entry mode were classified into two categories. That is internal and external factors. The internal factors are those factors that come from inside the company and the firm has considerable control over the factor while the external factor are those factors that come from the companies’ environment and the company has no influence on the factors but could monitor it.fi=Opinnäytetyö kokotekstinä PDF-muodossa.|en=Thesis fulltext in PDF format.|sv=Lärdomsprov tillgängligt som fulltext i PDF-format
Development of Moral Didacticism in Children: A Cross-Cultural Study
The use of folktales and fables in explaining the physical and spiritual worlds to children is cross-cultural, and precedes recorded history. Prior studies indicate a developmental process in children’s understanding of fables and folktales (Jose, D’Anna, & Krieg, 2005; Narvaez, Gleason, Mitchell, & Bentley, 1999). However, no known study has examined whether this developmental process is cross-cultural or culture specific. No known study also, has examined whether children as young as 6 years of age are aware that fables and folktales are non-historical. The present study fills these observed gaps by examining moral didacticism in children aged 6-11 years. The children were drawn from two distinct nations and cultures (United States and Nigeria). The study tested the children’s ability to: (a) recognize that fables/folktales are not historical, and (b) deduce the moral lessons in fables/folktales. They were asked to identify the correct answers from a list of answer options. The older participants performed better than the younger participants. Limitations and directions for future studies are identified
Monitoring Serangan Dan Pengendalian Hama Ulat Api (Setothosea Asigna) Pada Tanaman Kelapa Sawit Di Perkebunan Tanah Gambus Pt. Socfin Indonesia
Monitoring of Attacks and Control of Fire Caterpillar Pests (Setothosea asigna) on Oil Palm Plants at the Tanah Gambus Plantation of PT. "Socfin Indonesia" aims to describe the results of monitoring and control methods for fireworms in oil palm plantations. This research was conducted in the Three Divisions of Tanah Gambus Plantation, Batu Bara Regency, North Sumatra, from January to April 2024. The study used descriptive methods through field observations, sampling at census points, and re-censuses. Monitoring was conducted to monitor fireworm populations, while primary control was carried out through fogging with Santador 25 EC insecticide and diesel. This paper presents an integrated approach to controlling fireworms, which damage oil palm productivity. This study highlights the important role of routine monitoring, which involves mapping infestation points in specific blocks and establishing infestation criteria (light, moderate, and heavy) to determine appropriate control methods. In addition to chemical techniques, control also considered alternative control methods such as biological control with natural predators. The results showed variations in fireworm populations across blocks, influenced by environmental conditions such as high humidity. Post-control re-censtrals were conducted to measure the effectiveness of these method
Insect Diversity and Population in Agricultural Ecosystem Region Mountain, Kauditan District Area North Minahasa
This study aims to assess the diversity and insect populations in agricultural ecosystems. Sequens of this study consisted of determining the location of the sample, the sample unit, and agricultural ecosystems. This research was conducted using survey methods, identification and analysis data. The result study showed that abundance, / insect populations and diversity obtained from agricultural ecosystem is a total of 39 individuals consisting of 6 orders and 6 families, with the amount of each individual as follows : Hemiptera 7, 12 Diptera, Hymenoptera 5, 4 Coleoptera, Lepidoptera 6, .and Orthoptera 5 The density populations the highest of the agricultural ecosystem that is on the order Diptera Family Lauxalidae.
