Organic produce from the Republic of South Africa. Exploring the conditions for enhancing trade in organic vegetables, fruit and wine

Conditions for enhancing the trade in organic products between the Netherlands and the Republic of South Africa were assessed by means of a SWOT analysis, based on information acquired through interviews and desk research. There is a large potential to enhance the trade in organic products between the two countries, although the following issues need to be addressed: the finalisation of the RSA legislation on organic production (which will enable large enough volumes to be produced and traded), skills development and the presence of an effective platform for organic production in the RS

Lessons learned : evaluatie van logistieke bundelingsprojecten in de praktijk

GOVERA is een samenwerkingsverband waarin overheid en bedrijfsleven werken aan een gemeenschappelijke aanpak en oplossing van de goederenvervoer problematiek in de Randstad. GOVERA heeft haar netwerkvisie omgezet in praktijkgerichte (samenwerkings- en/of bundelings) pilots. Dit rapport evalueert o.a. deze pilots aan de hand van de theorie, de beschikbare rapportages en interviews met betrokkenen. Met als doelstelling dat er een analyse plaats moet vinden van de uitgevoerde bundelingsprojecten die in opdracht van GOVERA uitgevoerd en beschikbaar zijn, om te komen tot het achterhalen van de leerervaringen (lessons learned) en te komen tot ‘reflectie’ zowel kwalitatief als kwantitatie

Tuinbouw Integraal Digitaal (TID); Inventarisatie, analyse en programmavoorstel

In dit rapport wordt de huidige situatie op het gebied van integrale digitale informatievoorzieningin de tuinbouwsector in kaart gebracht en geanalyseerd. Vervolgens worden de contouren geschetst van een mogelijk programma voor verbetering en integratie van deze digitale informatievoorziening. Hiermee wordt een overzicht geboden van de huidige initiatieven en projecten en een uitgangspunt gegeven voor de rol die het Nederlandse tuinbouwclusterwil vervullen. Het ziet voor zichzelf een richtinggevende rol weggelegd als ontwikkelaar en eigenaar van besturings- of coördinatieconcepten die gebruikt worden in ICT-systemen, informatiestromen en ketenstandaards. Het rapport onderstreept de noodzaak om tot een integrale aanpak van de digitale informatievoorziening te komen.This report charts and analyses the current situation regarding integrated digitalinformation facilities in the horticultural sector. It also suggests the outlines of a possible programme for improving the integration of these digital information facilities. Additionally it offers an overview of the current initiatives and projects and suggests a starting point for the role which the Dutch horticulture cluster wishes to fill. Dutch horticulture is aiming towards a guiding role as a developer and owner of operational and coordinating concepts which are used in ICT systems, data flows, and chain standards. The report emphasises the necessity of creating an integrated approach to digital information facilities

Morphology of the tropopause layer and lower stratosphere above a tropical cyclone : a case study on cyclone Davina (1999)

During the APE-THESEO mission in the Indian Ocean the Myasishchev Design Bureau stratospheric research aircraft M55 Geophysica performed a flight over and within the inner core region of tropical cyclone Davina. Measurements of total water, water vapour, temperature, aerosol backscattering, ozone and tracers were made and are discussed here in comparison with the averages of those quantities acquired during the campaign time frame. Temperature anomalies in the tropical tropopause layer (TTL), warmer than average in the lower part and colder than average in the upper TTL were observed. Ozone was strongly reduced compared to its average value, and thick cirrus decks were present up to the cold point, sometimes topped by a layer of very dry air. Evidence for meridional transport of trace gases in the stratosphere above the cyclone was observed and perturbed water distribution in the TTL was documented. The paper discuss possible processes of dehydration induced by the cirrus forming above the cyclone, and change in the chemical tracer and water distribution in the lower stratosphere 400–430 K due to meridional transport from the mid-latitudes and link with Davina. Moreover it compares the data prior and after the cyclone passage to discuss its actual impact on the atmospheric chemistry and thermodynamics

The AMMA mulid network for aerosol characterization in West Africa

Three ground based portable low power consumption microlidars (MULID) have been built and deployed at three remote sites in Banizoumbou (Niger), Cinzana (Mali) and M'Bour (Senegal) in the framework of the African Monsoon Multidisciplinary Analyses (AMMA) project for the characterization of aerosols optical properties. A description of the instrument and a discussion of the data inversion method, including a careful analysis of measurement uncertainties (systematic and statistical errors) are presented. Some case studies of typical lidar profiles observed over the Banizoumbou site during 2006 are shown and discussed with respect to the AERONET 7-day back-trajectories and the biomass burning emissions from the Combustion Emission database for the AMMA campaign
