Mussel resources of Andaman Islands
A variety of molluscan resources such as edible oysters, pearl oysters, clams, mussels and gastropods are distributed along the coastal area of Andaman and Nicobar islands. Among the bivalves, the distribution of green mussel Perna viridis was earlier known only from a small creek at Sippighat (Mahadevan, 1983)
Light-heavy ion measurements in CR-39 located on the Earth side of LDEF
The azimuthal angle distribution and the charge and energy spectra of selected light-heavy (5 less than or equal to Z less than or equal to 8) stopping particles were measured in a single layer of CR-39 plastic nuclear track detector (PNTD) from the stack of the A0015 experiment located on the Earth-end of the LDEF satellite. The directional incidence of the trapped protons is studied by comparing the azimuthal angle distribution of selected recoils, obtained in the LDEF detectors, to that obtained through calibrations of PNTD's with exposures performed with 200 MeV proton beams from different directions
Transnational Identity of Assimilation and Assertion in Bharati Mukherjee Miss New India
This paper attempts to show the identity of Assimilation and Assertion of the female protagonist in Bharati Mukherjee\u27s latest novel Miss New India. Bharati Mukherjee is making a statement about her own experiences and observations on the issues faced as a woman in traditional Indian and foreign country by the medium of her female characters. The main purpose of this study is to focus on Assimilation and Assertion of the female character Anjali Bose, is in constant search of ways to escape the conservative environment of Gauripur, a small town in Bihar. It also discusses the women protagonist Anjali Bose is psychologically suppressed in the male-dominated society. While the male characters of her novels have received, more or less, enough attention the female characters seem to be marginalized by the critics who have discussed the female characters more in terms of their relation to the story\u27s male characters and analyzing the facets of oppression like sexuality, motherhood, mothering, and domestic labour. And it also discusses the number of questions related to trauma survivor and quest for Identity of the female characters who struggle to come out of the Attitude of Assimilation and Assertion
On an instance of hermaphroditism in the Electric ray, Narcine timlei (Bloch and Schneider)
A specimen of the electric ray, Narcine timlei, collected from the trawl
catches at Rameswaram on 12th November 1971, was found to be a hermaphrodite.
The specimen measured 402 mm In total length. The Important fea^
tures of the male and female reproductive "systems are described
Experimental culture of green mussel, Perna viridis (Linnaeus) in the Andamans
Experiments were conducted for the first time In the Andamans to culture green mussels, Perna
viridis in veloo netting bags and coi,r ropes in back water creek and inshore water. While growing of
mussels in velon netting bags did not succeed, the rope method gave encouraging results. Mussels of
47-81 mm sizes were collected for this purpose from natural habitat and seeded to the coir ropes
Distribution and abundance of the mangrove bivalves Isognomon ephippium (Linnaeus) and Cyrena ceylonica (Chemnitz) in Andamans
Investigations were carried out on the occurrence, distribution, population density, sex ratio, percentage edibility and total biomass of the oyster Isognomon ephippium in three different locations namely Sippighat creek, Mithagari jetty and Diglipur port area and the clam Cyrena ceylonica in the marshy areas around Sippighat and Bimbleton creeks of Andaman islands. The study revealed that the density of oyster population was high in Sippighat than the other two locations and the clam was more abundant in the mangrove creeks and backwater canal of Sippighat
Some recent observations on small-scale fishery In the vicinity of Madras
Madras zone is one of the important fishing centres on the east coast of India. To understand the fish landings from different gears in Madras, three landing centres, viz., Kasimedu, Triplicane and Nochikuppam were selected. Kasimedu is about 8 km north of Triplicane and Nochikuppam is about 2 km south of Triplicane. The major catch components from the demersal trawls of this area arc silver bellies, threadfin breams, sciaenids, lizardfish, prawns, squids and cuttlefish. These groups are landed in a meagre quantity by the traditional gears, thus maintaining compatability between mechanised and non-mechanised gears in the exploitation of fishery resources off Madras
Studies on the marine fauna of the Mahatma Gandhi marine national park, Wandoor, South Andaman Part 1 Corals
A comprehensive survey was carried out during October 1990 to April 1991 to document the marine flora and fauna found in the Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park, Wandoor, South Andaman
Ellipsometric Studies on Silver Telluride Thin Films
Silver telluride thin films of thickness between 45 nm and 145 nm were thermally evaporated on well cleaned glass substrates at high vacuum better than 10 – 5 mbar. Silver telluride thin films are polycrystalline with monoclinic structure was confirmed by X-ray diffractogram studies. AFM and SEM images of these films are also recorded. The phase ratio and amplitude ratio of these films were recorded in the wavelength range between 300 nm and 700 nm using spectroscopic ellipsometry and analysed to determine its optical band gap, refractive index, extinction coefficient, and dielectric functions. High absorption coefficient determined from the analysis of recorded spectra indicates the presence of direct band transition. The optical band gap of silver telluride thin films is thickness dependent and proportional to square of reciprocal of thickness. The dependence of optical band gap of silver telluride thin films on film thickness has been explained through quantum size effect.
