A series of dance seminars was held in Ukraine and Saskatchewan from 1971 to 1991, hosted by a left-wing political and cultural organization, the Association for United Ukrainian Canadians. These seminars heavily influenced the development of Ukrainian dance in Saskatchewan and Canada by introducing new dance techniques, choreography, and costuming from Soviet Ukraine. They were also very controversial, challenging the definition of Ukrainian Canadian identity in Canada during the Soviet era.

In situ Rheo-GISANS of triblock copolymers : gelation and shear effects on quasi-crystalline structures at interfaces

The behaviour of polymeric systems at surfaces and under flow is extremely important in many applications, ranging from drug delivery to lubrication. We have studied a model triblock copolymer in deuterated water combining in situ rheology and grazing incidence small angle neutron scattering. Several thermotropic phases appear as a function of the temperature, including a bicontinuous phase not present in the bulk. Moreover, gelation can occur following a different route depending on the concentration. We show that shearing can be used to monitor the structural integrity of the micellar systems and in some cases as a tool for modifying the thermotropic phases: an fcc (face centred cubic) phase is sheared into a hcp (hexagonally close packed) phase, and is then recovered by cycling the temperature

Practical remarks on power consumption in WLAN access points

The article presents the power consumptions measurements performed for three wireless routers operating in IEEE 802.11n standard. A typical consumer-class device Asus RT-AC66U was chosen, an operator-class Gateworks Laguna GW2387 and a router built based on the Raspberry Pi3 platform. The aim of experiments was to test the influence of the beacon interframe interval, a client association (joining) in the network and the transmission itself, on the lifetime of battery-powered devices. Theoretical calculations were also performed for the influence of the analyzed scenarios on the battery-powered devices

Cossacks and wallflowers : Ukrainian stage dance, identity and politics in Saskatchewan from the 1920s to the present

Ukrainian dance is a popular means of expressing Ukrainian cultural affiliation, for the dancers as well as for the audience. It also performs a didactic function by sanctioning specific identities through the instruction and presentation of dances. This thesis examines the interaction of politics and the arts in shaping these identities in Saskatchewan.By tracing the establishment and development of staged dance, this thesis explores the formation of the Ukrainian Canadian identity in the twentieth century. Through analysis of primary documents, archival footage, and interviews with leaders in the dance community, a record of the development of Ukrainian dance in Saskatchewan has been created. As the reasons for the dances changed over time due to internal and external pressures, so did the dances and identities that were expressed and encouraged. This study also reveals that dance and politics are inextricably intertwined in the province. An internal nationalist / progressive political division shaped Ukrainian Canadian identity and the expression of that identity, including dance. Politics were imposed through control over the locations of dance training and performance. The legitimacy of the political divide, however, was challenged in the postwar period as artistry and aesthetics were emphasized. Political influence upon Ukrainian dance also extended beyond the Ukrainian Canadian community, and included consequences of general Canadian developments, such as the multicultural policy. By tracing the intersection between politics, identity and the arts in this ethnocultural community, how various influences shaped Ukrainian cultural identity is explored and critically examined

Description of the larva and pupa of Haploglossa picipennis (Gyllenhal, 1827) and larva of H. nidicola (Fairmaire, 1852) (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae: Aleocharinae) with taxonomic remarks

The poorly known mature larvae (L3) of Haploglossa piczpennis (Gyllenhal, 1827) and H. nidicola (Fairmaire, 1852) and also hitherto unknown pupal cocoon and pupa of H. picipennis are described in detail, with the illustrations of structural features and setal pattern provided. The differences of the mature larvae between these two species and other known Aleocharinae larvae belonging to the tribes Athetini, Homalotini, Hoplandriini, Liparocephalini, Lomechusini and Oxypodini are presented. The diagnostic larval characters for the genus Haploglossa are proposed for the first time. The differences between pupa of H. picipennis and pupa Of Pella laticollis (Markell, 1844) are listed. Data on the distribution and ecological requirements of both H. picipennis and H. nidicola are also provided
