A family of Schr\"odinger operators whose spectrum is an interval
By approximation, I show that the spectrum of the Schr\"odinger operator with
potential for f continuous and , is an interval.Comment: Comm. Math. Phys. (to appear
An enrichment of KK-theory over the category of symmetric spectra
In [6] Higson showed that the formal properties of the Kasparov KK-theory groups are best understood if one regards KK(A,B) for separable C*-algebras A,B as the morphism set of a category KK. In category language the composition and exterior KKproduct give KK the structure of a symmetric monoidal category which is enriched over abelian groups. We show that the enrichment of KK can be lifted to an enrichment over the category of symmetric spectra
Reciprocal Inhibition of Adiponectin and Innate Lung Immune Responses to Chitin and Aspergillus fumigatus
Chitin is a structural biopolymer found in numerous organisms, including pathogenic fungi, and recognized as an immune-stimulating pathogen associated molecular pattern by pattern recognition molecules of the host immune system. However, programming and regulation of lung innate immunity to chitin inhalation in the context of inhalation of fungal pathogens such as Aspergillus fumigatus is complex and our understanding incomplete. Here we report that the systemic metabolism-regulating cytokine adiponectin is decreased in the lungs and serum of mice after chitin inhalation, with a concomitant decrease in surface expression of the adiponectin receptor AdipoR1 on lung leukocytes. Constitutive lung expression of acidic mammalian chitinase resulted in decreased inflammatory cytokine gene expression and neutrophil recruitment, but did not significantly affect lung adiponectin transcription. Exogenous recombinant adiponectin specifically dampened airway chitin-mediated eosinophil recruitment, while adiponectin deficiency resulted in increased airway eosinophils. The presence of adiponectin also resulted in decreased CCL11-mediated migration of bone marrow-derived eosinophils. In contrast to purified chitin, aspiration of viable conidia from the high chitin-expressing A. fumigatus isolate Af5517 resulted in increased neutrophil recruitment and inflammatory cytokine gene expression in adiponectin-deficient mice, while no significant changes were observed in response to the isolate Af293. Our results identify a novel role for the adiponectin pathway in inhibition of lung inflammatory responses to chitin and A. fumigatus inhalation
A quantitative central limit theorem for linear statistics of random matrix eigenvalues
It is known that the fluctuations of suitable linear statistics of Haar
distributed elements of the compact classical groups satisfy a central limit
theorem. We show that if the corresponding test functions are sufficiently
smooth, a rate of convergence of order almost can be obtained using a
quantitative multivariate CLT for traces of powers that was recently proven
using Stein's method of exchangeable pairs.Comment: Title modified; main result stated under slightly weaker conditions;

Single-photon emission at a rate of 143 MHz from a deterministic quantum-dot microlens triggered by a mode-locked vertical-external-cavity surface-emitting laser
This article may be downloaded for personal use only. Any other use requires prior permission of the author and AIP Publishing. This article appeared in Appl. Phys. Lett. 107, 041105 (2015) and may be found at https://doi.org/10.1063/1.4927429.We report on the realization of a quantum dot (QD) based single-photon source with a record-high single-photon emission rate. The quantum light source consists of an InGaAs QD which is deterministically integrated within a monolithic microlens with a distributed Bragg reflector as back-side mirror, which is triggered using the frequency-doubled emission of a mode-locked vertical-external-cavity surface-emitting laser (ML-VECSEL). The utilized compact and stable laser system allows us to excite the single-QD microlens at a wavelength of 508 nm with a pulse repetition rate close to 500 MHz at a pulse width of 4.2 ps. Probing the photon statistics of the emission from a single QD state at saturation, we demonstrate single-photon emission of the QD-microlens chip with g(2)(0) < 0.03 at a record-high single-photon flux of (143 ± 16) MHz collected by the first lens of the detection system. Our approach is fully compatible with resonant excitation schemes using wavelength tunable ML-VECSELs, which will optimize the quantum optical properties of the single-photon emission in terms of photon indistinguishability.BMBF, 03V0630, Entwicklung einer Halbleiterbasierten Einzelphotonenquelle für die Quanteninformationstechnologie (QSOURCE)DFG, 43659573, SFB 787: Halbleiter - Nanophotonik: Materialien, Modelle, BauelementeDFG, 192635911, GRK 1782: Funktionalisierung von HalbleiternDFG, 223848855, SFB 1083: Struktur und Dynamik innerer Grenzfläche
Single Proton Knock-Out Reactions from 24,25,26F
The cross sections of the single proton knock-out reactions from 24F, 25F,
and 26F on a 12C target were measured at energies of about 50 MeV/nucleon.
Ground state populations of 6.6+-.9 mb, 3.8+-0.6 mb for the reactions
12C(24F,23O) and 12C(25F,24O) were extracted, respectively. The data were
compared to calculations based on the many-body shell model and the eikonal
theory. In the reaction 12C(26F,25O) the particle instability of 25O was
confirmed
On the Coulomb-dipole transition in mesoscopic classical and quantum electron-hole bilayers
We study the Coulomb-to-dipole transition which occurs when the separation
of an electron-hole bilayer system is varied with respect to the
characteristic in-layer distances. An analysis of the classical ground state
configurations for harmonically confined clusters with reveals that
the energetically most favorable state can differ from that of two-dimensional
pure dipole or Coulomb systems. Performing a normal mode analysis for the N=19
cluster it is found that the lowest mode frequencies exhibit drastic changes
when is varied. Furthermore, we present quantum-mechanical ground states
for N=6, 10 and 12 spin-polarized electrons and holes. We compute the
single-particle energies and orbitals in self-consistent Hartree-Fock
approximation over a broad range of layer separations and coupling strengths
between the limits of the ideal Fermi gas and the Wigner crystal
