    Frobenius submanifolds

The notion of a Frobenius submanifold - a submanifold of a Frobenius manifold which is itself a Frobenius manifold with respect to structures induced from the original manifold - is studied. Two dimensional submanifolds are particularly simple. More generally, sufficient conditions are given for a submanifold to be a so-called natural submanifold. These ideas are illustrated using examples of Frobenius manifolds constructed from Coxeter groups, and for the Frobenius manifolds governing the quantum cohomology of CP^2 and CP^1 \times CP^1.Comment: 23 pages. Jordan manifolds and dispersionless KdV equations

    Get PDF
Multicomponent KdV-systems are defined in terms of a set of structure constants and, as shown by Svinolupov, if these define a Jordan algebra the corresponding equations may be said to be integrable, at least in the sense of having higher-order symmetries, recursion operators and hierarchies of conservation laws. In this paper the dispersionless limits of these Jordan KdV equations are studied, under the assumptions that the Jordan algebra has a unity element and a compatible non-degenerate inner product. Much of this structure may be encoded in a so-called Jordan manifold, akin to a Frobenius manifold. In particular the Hamiltonian properties of these systems are investigated

A Geometry for Multidimensional Integrable Systems

    Get PDF
A deformed differential calculus is developed based on an associative star-product. In two dimensions the Hamiltonian vector fields model the algebra of pseudo-differential operator, as used in the theory of integrable systems. Thus one obtains a geometric description of the operators. A dual theory is also possible, based on a deformation of differential forms. This calculus is applied to a number of multidimensional integrable systems, such as the KP hierarchy, thus obtaining a geometrical description of these systems. The limit in which the deformation disappears corresponds to taking the dispersionless limit in these hierarchies.Comment: LaTeX, 29 pages. To be published in J.Geom.Phy

Differential and Functional Identities for the Elliptic Trilogarithm

    Get PDF
When written in terms of ϑ\vartheta-functions, the classical Frobenius-Stickelberger pseudo-addition formula takes a very simple form. Generalizations of this functional identity are studied, where the functions involved are derivatives (including derivatives with respect to the modular parameter) of the elliptic trilogarithm function introduced by Beilinson and Levin. A differential identity satisfied by this function is also derived. These generalized Frobenius-Stickelberger identities play a fundamental role in the development of elliptic solutions of the Witten-Dijkgraaf-Verlinde-Verlinde equations of associativity, with the simplest case reducing to the above mentioned differential identity

History and development of validation with the ESP-r simulation program

It is well recognised that validation of dynamic building simulation programs is a long-term complex task. There have been many large national and international efforts that have led to a well-established validation methodology comprising analytical, inter-program comparison and empirical validation elements, and a significant number of tests have been developed. As simulation usage increases, driven by such initiatives as the European Energy Performance of Buildings Directive, such tests are starting to be incorporated into national and international standards. Although many program developers have run many of the developed tests, there does not appear to have been a systematic attempt to incorporate such tests into routine operation of the simulation programs. This paper reports work undertaken to address this deficiency. The paper summarizes the tests that have been applied to the simulation program ESP-r. These tests have been developed within International Energy Agency Annexes, within CEN standards, within various large-scale national projects, and by the UK's Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers. The structure used to encapsulate the tests allows developers to ensure that recent code modifications have not resulted in unforeseen impacts on program predictions, and allows users to check for themselves against benchmarks

Bayesian Inference in Cointegrated I (2) Systems: a Generalisation of the Triangular Model

    Get PDF
This paper generalises the cointegrating model of Phillips (1991) to allow for I (0) , I (1) and I (2) processes. The model has a simple form that permits a wider range of I (2) processes than are usually considered, including a more flexible form of polynomial cointegration. Further, the specification relaxes restrictions identified by Phillips (1991) on the I (1) and I (2) cointegrating vectors and restrictions on how the stochastic trends enter the system. To date there has been little work on Bayesian I (2) analysis and so this paper attempts to address this gap in the literature. A method of Bayesian inference in potentially I (2) processes is presented with application to Australian money demand using a Jeffreys prior and a shrinkage prior.

    Deformations of dispersionless KdV hierarchies

The obstructions to the existence of a hierarchy of hydrodynamic conservation laws are studied for a multicomponent dispersionless KdV system. It is shown that if an underlying algebra is Jordan, then the lowest obstruction vanishes and that all higher obstructions automatically vanish. Deformations of these multicomponent dispersionless KdV-type equations are also studied. No new obstructions appear, and hence the existence of a fully deformed hierarchy depends on the existence of a single purely hydrodynamic conservation law.Comment: 12 papge
