Differences between the east culture and the west culture

Nowadays no one is surprised to see foreigners in the streets of the city. But few people understand how to communicate with a representative of another country, came to a mutual understanding. The purpose of this study is to consider the main distinctions of culture of the East and West. Theoretical methods have been used to achieve this goal. The result of this research is more in-depth understanding of communication with representatives of the East and West cultures. В наши дни уже никто не удивляется, увидев на улицах своего города иностранцев. Но мало кто понимает, каким образом следует общаться с представителем другой страны, чтобы возникло взаимопонимание. Цель данного исследования заключается в том, чтобы изучить различия между западной и восточной культурами. Для достижения этой цели были использованы общетеоретические методы. Checklists, Checklists, Every Where, but not a List to Easily Check: An Exploratory Study of Personal Health Information Management Practices

Preventive healthcare services require consumers to coordinate and manage several healthcare activities with multiple service providers. In this paper we set out to understand what challenges people face in managing personal healthcare requirements. We conducted a qualitative study of consumers who participate in a preventive care program called the Health Enhancement Program in the State of Connecticut. Data from the interviews of 15 participants of this program highlighted several challenges faced by participants in scheduling and managing their healthcare requirements. While some of the challenges were due to lack of communication between several stakeholders of the process, others provide implications for design of technology that can support management of personal healthcare requirements

If You Build It, Will They Use It? Challenges in Adoption and Use of Patient-centered E-health

Preventive healthcare services require consumers to coordinate and manage several healthcare activities with multiple service providers. In this paper, we explore the adoption and use of a patient-centered e-health system for managing personal healthcare requirements. Specifically, using the patient-centered e-health (PCEH) framework, we analyzed the data we collected from a qualitative study of consumers who participated in a preventive care program called the Health Enhancement Program (HEP) in Connecticut in the United States and the accompanying e-health service the program offered. Data from the interviews of 15 participants revealed that users found several challenges in adopting and using the e-health system when examined in the context of their lifestyle even though the system had a patient-centric design. These findings provide implications for designing and assessing patient-centered e-health to ensure that users effectively adopt and continue to use them and insights for expanding PCEH theory and practice

IMPRESSION MANAGEMENT AND FORMATION IN ONLINE DATING SYSTEMS

Online dating systems are used by millions of people every year to find a romantic partner, yet many of these users report feeling frustrated by the online dating process. This paper presents an interview study in-progress of online dating system use. Findings from 35 users of a popular online dating system in the United States indicate that, contrary to previous research, users typically do not want to deceive their communication partners in order to appear more attractive. Rather, they try to convey the positive attributes they already possess through private communication methods such as site-native e-mailing. Participants also indicate that primary frustrations with online dating stem from not knowing how other daters are interpreting them and why their conversations end abruptly. These findings suggest that some of the misrepresentation found in prior work may actually be unintentional misinterpretation. Together these findings call for additional feedback mechanisms in the design of online dating systems to inform users about their conveyed impressions

Real or Fake? User Behavior and Attitudes Related to Determining the Veracity of Social Media Posts

International audienceCitizens and Emergency Managers need to be able to distinguish "fake" (untrue) news posts from real news posts on social media during disasters. This paper is based on an online survey conducted in 2018 that produced 341 responses from invitations distributed via email and through Facebook. It explores to what extent and how citizens generally assess whether postings are "true" or "fake," and describes indicators of the trustworthiness of content that users would like. The mean response on a semantic differential scale measuring how frequently users attempt to verify the news trustworthiness (a scale from 1-never to 5-always) was 3.37. The most frequent message characteristics citizens' use are grammar and the trustworthiness of the sender. Most respondents would find an indicator of trustworthiness helpful, with the most popular choice being a colored graphic. Limitations and implications for assessments of trustworthiness during disasters are discussed

Technology Overload: Is There a Technological Panacea?

While developments in technology have made computing and electronics ubiquitous and wearable, they have also given rise to a plethora of devices each delivering a special functionality. Numerous appliances and gadgets may overwhelm us, leading to Technology Overload, the cognitive and physical burden placed on human beings due to usage of multiple devices for everyday activities. While research into the design of devices has concentrated on making each separate feature/ functionality of a device more efficient and effective, (such as enhancing the resolution of cameras or improving the portability of a mobile phone) or integrating a few functionalities at a time (such as PDA-phones, cell phone-cameras etc), little work has been done to systematically determine which features and functionalities should be placed in which device/s in order to reduce technology overload. This paper discusses technology overload and explores the implications of current and proposed solutions to help ease it
